    Man, u gotta stop equating the word 'devil' w/ anything satanic or unholy... I could name a bunch of artists that have satanist themes in their lyrics (Mayhem, Behemoth, Deicide, etc.) but Slipknot isn't one of them (except for some references like 'The heretic anthem') In most cases, 'devil' refers to the dark, insidious side of human beings... or harmful impulses or evil figures.
    Motley Crue has a song 'Shout at the devil' ... Dio had 'The devil cried' by Heaven & Hell ... Metallica had "Devil's dance" ... Megadeth had "Devil's island" ... Ozzy Osbourne had "Devil's daughter" ... Judas Priest had "Devil's child" and 'Devil digger'🤘🔥
    Take the song 'Black Sabbath' by Black Sabbath in 1970... 'Satan' is mentioned as a dark, malevolent figure in a nightmare... but that FREAKED out religious purists who condemned Black Sabbath in America in the 70's & 80's.

    From most (not all) rap songs that I've actually listened to the lyrics can be quite vulgar, so I'm wondering why songs with these titles/lyrics are considered offensive -In my opinion they're just singing about the inner demons we all have - Just an observation

  • @TheBlackQueen
    @TheBlackQueen 3 года назад +33

    As with many bands, the use of the Devil and Hell in their music, lyrics, imagery, and artwork is not meant to be glorifying Satan. Most of the time, it's simply shock value used to scare people, similar to how Horror movies use such to scare people. Metal in many cases is the Horror genre of music. There are some bands that actually do sing praise to Satan or at least use him as an idol, and that's mostly in Black Metal and Satanic Metal, but as far as bands like Slipknot go, no, they aren't Satanic.
    This song has to do with the depression and anger the band felt after the death of their bass guitarist Paul Grey, whom overdosed on Morphine and Fentanyl. Lead singer Corey Taylor says that the song is about them looking at the selfishness within themselves to move on from their grieving.

  • @JonnyPhive
    @JonnyPhive 3 года назад +12

    Metal generally has actually very little to do with satanism, some black metal bands use the imagery, but on the whole it is usually theatrics and shtick more than actual belief.

    You can't take lyrics so literal. I really wish you would do your homework before listening to so many of these songs... you would appreciate them so much more if you knew the meaning behind them first. It wouldn't ruin the reaction; it would just give you a heads up of what they're talking about.

    Even as a Christian, don’t see the Devil in a real sense but only as metaphor. Reacting to songs is about getting absorbed to meaning and the beat and rhythm and melody. Theatre is part of art. In some countries, Christianity is seen as a antagonism and evil. So, songs let’s it all come out.

    Theres satanic bands out there but Slipknot is not one of them. The way they sing is just away to portray that emotion. They're not trying to glorify the devil within them but rather demonstrate that what that inner feeling is. IMO its a lot less worrisome than guys in rap talking about being in the game and shotting each other especially when young men (most often young black men) are killing each other over either guns, turf, drugs or just street cred and something to do. Id much rather have a song tell me in a poetic way about the anger inside him that was maybe inspired by abused he suffered growing up or whatever it might be.

    Since you're a rap fan you should check out Wait and Bleed you might like it.
    It's called blast beats. The drummer was called Joey Jodison and he was using a double kick pedal not to mention Joey was an extremely rapid drummer and probably had one of the largest drum kits in all of metal.
    Personally I like metal because its an expression of the anger and rage I feel inside and gives you that release when you just get into it. Lets you release that anger in a non-violent way. I also like it because I have lots of pain in my life and it makes me feel less alone with my struggles just like Sad Boi/EMO Rap. Pop just sounds so fake to me whereas metal tends to address darker lest talked about subjects like depression, suicide, mental illness instead of pretending that life is full of rainbows and sunshine which for a lot of people it isn't. But I'm not gonna judge or slag someone for liking Pop, it's all personal taste at the end of the day. When it comes to horror I think it reminds us that our lives could be much worse like when watching a movie like SAW you can be scared but still think at least I'm not that person maybe my life isn't as bad as I think. But once again that's my personal opinion.

    Theres nothing satanic about the band, they just sometimes use terms like it to be intimidating. The song is about becoming one with your past and moving on, mainly based on their bassist Paul Gray who passed away. The music video shows them killing off their old selves cause all the ones that died were wearing their masks from the previous album, it shows them getting rid of their old selves, and starting fresh. May i request 'Sulfur' by slipknot as your next reaction to them.

    Please check out Duality by Slipknot, that or wait and bleed. Both of them are some of Slipknot's best songs.

    You gotta check out their earlier stuff like (Sic) and "People = Shit". The vocal delivery sounds very similar to that of rap.

    They have alot of drummers. This song was about their bass man dying and their sadness of it afaik.

    This song is about fighting you inner demon. Forcing it out and showing the real you.
    Smh at demons or Paul's death.

    why do we do this? hard to explain but for me its a total rush and the music just has a totally liberating energy to it. I listen to a lot of different types of music but there's nothing like metal, I mean absolutely NOTHING once you get into it there's no going back, it grows on you and becomes almost a part of you. You start to embrace that feeling and just accept it, its litteraly a drug metal music is my fav to listen to, its my fav to play (i play bass btw) and i dont see how i could never not like it.

    Check out Body Count "Here I go Again" That would probably scare you. The music video is filmed like it could be a slasher film.

    My interpretation of the lyrics goes two ways, one is betrayed and captured by a trusted ally, POW type stuff, or two metaphorical for ending an abusive and toxic relationship.
    And if this messed you up avoid anything labeled shock core, I made that mistake once.
    Recommendations.
