What a legendary composer and sensitive singer !
I read as many reviews as possible. They are all flowers in a garland - beauty, colorful and fragrant. The comparison between Lataji’s singing and Sudhirji’s rendition is unavoidable and the distinction has to be understood. When they sing for a movie, the singing borders on “commercial “ performance, controlled by time and audio/video admin. Sudhirji, in a very humble background set-up, has put his heart and soul to bring the nuances of bhava and raag to the extent that even Lataji would admire. Secondly, the audience (how lucky they are) is also responsible with their reactive participation - the required timely three head shakes to enjoy the song. I have to mention one sample: the beautiful young woman, sitting in the upper level in deep majenta dress, showing her heartfelt reaction is captivating. Who is she? Kudos to her expression! Wish I lived in Bombay to chase her (!) before I embarked to NY in the 1960’s. God bless all music lovers.
@@madhavileparle Thank you. I believe that I have seen her in San Diego Calif decades ago. she sang in the house of my dear friends Late Prem Trikkanad and Shelila. Prem's tabla player Sham Kane (Zakir's disciple) accompanied her. Hope my memory is correct.
Shree Sudhir Phadke’s demeanor while singing brings goosebumps in me; so unassuming, so humble, so majestic and yet so simple! To compare Sudhir ji to Lata ji is unfair simply because Lata ji couldn’t have produced this masterpiece melody on her own and sang it. Sudhir ji has done both in this epic and timeless creation. His rendition of aakaars after उषाने आँचल फैलाया and ज्योति यशोदा adds a nice touch to the song. Of course, the producer and the director had something to do with it. I am sure that Lata ji would have done these akaars even better; oops, I am not supposed to compare the two.
Lataji need not have done it better.. equally good for sure... and by the way Lata was a fabulous composer herself who went by the moniker Anandghan and has done some beautiful albeit very few songs

Agreed! I don't know what it is and in a way I feel bad saying this, but by far I prefer his version to the version Lata sang under his direction. He was a fantastic music director not to mention singer. The way he has sung this is so beautiful. I agree with you without a doubt. One can listen to his version a thousand times and still yearn to hear it another thousand times.

The comparison between Lataji’s singing and Sudhirji’s rendition is unavoidable and the distinction has to be understood. When they sing for a movie, the singing borders on “commercial “ performance, controlled by time and audio/video admin. Sudhirji, in a very humble background set-up, has put his heart and soul to bring the nuances of bhava and raag to the extent that even Lataji would admire. Secondly, the audience (how lucky they are) is also responsible with their reactive participation - the required timely three head shakes to enjoy the song.
I have to mention one sample: the beautiful young woman, sitting in the upper level in deep majenta dress, showing her heartfelt reaction is captivating. Who is she? Kudos to her expression! Wish I lived in Bombay to chase her (!) before I embarked to NY in the 1960’s. God bless all music lovers.

Shree Sudhir Phadke’s demeanor while singing brings goosebumps in me; so unassuming, so humble, so majestic and yet so simple! To compare Sudhir ji to Lata ji is unfair simply because Lata ji couldn’t have produced this masterpiece melody on her own and sang it. Sudhir ji has done both in this epic and timeless creation. His rendition of aakaars after उषाने आँचल फैलाया and ज्योति यशोदा adds a nice touch to the song. Of course, the producer and the director had something to do with it. I am sure that Lata ji would have done these akaars even better; oops, I am not supposed to compare the two.
Lataji need not have done it better.. equally good for sure... and by the way Lata was a fabulous composer herself who went by the moniker Anandghan and has done some beautiful albeit very few songs

Agreed! I don't know what it is and in a way I feel bad saying this, but by far I prefer his version to the version Lata sang under his direction. He was a fantastic music director not to mention singer. The way he has sung this is so beautiful. I agree with you without a doubt. One can listen to his version a thousand times and still yearn to hear it another thousand times.
