I wouldn't wish mental illness on anyone. It sucks to wake up and not want to get out of bed or be excited to start the day really, or just dread it. You begin to search for things that will make you high on life.

Drug addiction is always related to mental illness (substance abuse) and sometimes it is not acknowledged as such 😭 we need easier access to therapists and counselors to help find our purpose in life, I have never been addicted to drugs but I had anorexia nervosa as well as bulimia and I abused laxatives, nothing to do with hard drugs I know, but the only way to overcome the self abuse was through counseling. I am devastated and my heart goes out to those suffering with drug addiction and their families, who are also suffering. Somehow, some time we will live in a better place.

The most interesting concept learned from Sheff’s novel is that drug addiction can trigger psychological challenges in families. As evidenced in the book Sheff is emotionally disturbed by Nick’s drug behavior which has compromised his life. He experiences denial feelings since he cannot accept that his son is addicted to methamphetamine substance (Sheff, 2008). Sheff later contracts a brain hemorrhage due to depression while reflecting on his son’s drug behavior. This scenario reveals the emotional challenges parents and guardians suffer while salvaging their children from drug addiction.

The movie could have been way more shocking and intense, just like the true story was, it left me wishing they had actually used more elements to make the story more like the books.

I think they were trying to get a message across rather than glorifying drugs. They wanted people to see or even feel what families/ addicts go through. This was no thriller film
