Caz telling Roy to wake up then breaking down, when Brodie was talking through the speaker, and especially the last part where Caz hears Suze's voice...honestly made me cry
Its even worse playing it, because part of you KNOWS everyone is doomed but you just keep thinking "Maybe this time we'll find a way, maybe this time it'll work", just to have to face reality when Finlay gives you the lighter.

@@missyTL Yeah, I know what you mean. This was heartbreaking for me personally. I never had this happen, but I know my little sister wasn't treated well.
I honestly didn't expect such a short game to get me so emotionally invested in these characters and the story. Like, this game broke me a little bit. Having to listen to Caz' friends die horrible deaths... watching him come to the conclusion that nobody was leaving the rig alive? Gut-wrenching.
My belief of why the heli crashed was that Archie saw you and tried to go back for you but then Rennick interfered with him in an argument causing it to crash
I think it was a bit of both Archie went back for caz . rennick began to argue with him the horrors infected him and began the metamorphosis cue the crash
I always wondered and theorized if Rennick knew what was down there at the very beginning. I mean, he may not have known *exactly* what it was, but I don't think he was drilling specifically for oil. The reason I say this is because Rennick was acting *way* too nonchalant about the *very bad* situation that was unfolding on the rig. I don't believe for a second he didn't see what was going on. And the more I thought about it, the more it made sense; I learned from Gaming Harry's video that the time period when this game takes place in Scotland was when the country's economy had just gotten out of huge turmoil. The discovery of oil in the North Sea served to jumpstart it, but civilians were concerned that the government wasn't looking out for the common man. The reason why Rennick was pissed that Caz was there was because he could attract the police to the rig. The police, who are extensions of the government. He didn't want them to discover what they were drilling for and claim jurisdiction over it, which would lock Rennick out of all the potential money he could make. And he seems to be the kind of man to prioritize making a profit over people's lives. As for the organism itself, I'm not so sure it's an eldritch horror. It might be an alien parasite or bacteria that crash-landed on Earth millions and millions of years ago from a meteor, and was only dormant all this time, of course, until it was drilled into. Anyway, that's my take.
Its an excellent theory but doubtful i feel like renick was acting that way cause, well, hes a gaint cunt, would it make some sense as to why he was that way possibly, as for the eldtrich horror, doubt it would be an alien parasite not just due to what it does toa. Person but what we see it becomes in the end game, becoming a massive spire with its own magnetic field/ gravitational field a parasite couldnt do that, also with how its capable of adding mass to a persons body making them horribly disfigured and unrecognisable ans the hint that if it got to the main land what happened on the rig would look like a sunny comapred to the horror and destruction it would cause on thr mainlan
I think it was just cooperate greed and hubris, the way he talks to Caz about the rig being his ship and him being the captain. Cadal might have known but besides being a ripe-ass corpo goon, I think he was as clueless as anyone else. His arrogance could be chalked up to him trying to maintain control of his "ship" and keep everyone calm when he knows everyone is freaking out over how outworldly everything is turning.
Never thought of this. That was def an interesting read with this! Personally I found some karmic qualities with the entity for some reason or else how it was symbolically framing within the story, well considering some who died untainted having goodness to their heart I see
Government attention on a rig that's probably committing safety violations is enough. Oil after depression is enough. Pencil pushers don't tend to get hands on much. A million year old dormant alien symbiote is absolutely eldrich.
It definitely seems like an eldritch/lovecraftian horror type of thing imo. The “fear of the unknown” aspect of the game, tentacle-type appendages the “infected” people had, the madness, the hallucinations plaguing Caz or anyone who got close to the giant entity on the drill, and a bunch of other stuff that happened in the game are common themes with eldritch horror. Even if it was an alien parasite, bacteria, etc. from space, that would still be considered eldritch/cosmic horror (eldritch horror = horror of the unknowable and incomprehensible). Ultimately, this seems to be inspired by one of (or multiple) H.P. Lovecraft stories.
I LOVE games like this, they tell the story of monsters and stuff but also have a sentimental and personal side to it’s story, reminds me of resident evil 8
😢 I wasn't expecting to cry.... Man seeing this unfold was heartbreaking. I was actually reminded about these movies my mom liked. The main difference being that hers was natural disasters and this was a horrifying.... Thing! Just something about the set up though... Gosh I miss her...

I was curious as to how fast the infestation takes hold. Rennick was fine in the helicopter just before you get to it and then leaves but obviously something goes wrong and the heli crashes back. I'm not sure how long Caz was out but to encounter Rennick just a giant head with tendrils (obviously a nod to his ego) the time lapse must be fairly rapid.
In Roanoke Gamings' video, he theorizes that because Rennick was probably very injured from the heli accident, it was able to infect him faster through his wounds.
@@themanformerlyknownascomme777 I think he was infected prior to the crash, as if you listen to his voice lines before he boards the chopper, his voice is already breaking and beginning to distort, so it would seem that he transformed on the helicopter and attacked the pilot, causing it to crash. The transformation into the monsters also only seems to occur with living flesh - as far as I can tell, not a single corpse got reanimated as a creature after their death. Gibbo was splashed with oil and attacked Finlay before he transformed; Trots was alive and screaming when he was transformed; we hear Muir transform while on the phone to Innes; O'Connor was barely alive when he was assimilated; Roper was clinging on but still alive. Rennick, I mention above, but Addair is the only one of the crew who is unaccounted for in terms of when he transforms. Maybe they'll do a DLC from the viewpoint of Finlay, and she helps to fill in those gaps
@@georgercop I'm pretty sure the monster can use dead flesh as part of it's blobs, but it can't make a mobile monster, other then that, I absolutely agree

The shitty part is with the polis being an alibi, Cadal would probably blame Caz's elec skills to setting the rig ablaze and destroying it. Taking absolutely no responsibility for the terrible work environments they funded. It would be gnarly if a sequel was to be made where, lucky Caz, survives only to watch as the corrupted infectious entity is not yet dead. What would be cooler is if Caz is an old man now suffering amnesia and goes under a new name - only to be employed by a new oil rig. We're closer to modern day but in the same waters and one freak encounter with the same growths you learn throughout the game who Caz was only to discover its the crewmen who has slowly been getting his memories back.
yeah, also big cargo boats works mad good too, i remember the good old times of Monstrum, over the years a lot of indie horrors used boats as maps and they all delivered insane atmospheres
I think Rennick was infected before he even set foot in the chopper. It’s all in his voice. When he said, “what I told them is that we’re leaving. And we ARE leaving. Now!” His voice sounds like he’s in pain and discomfort. It was most likely an indication of him trying to fight the biomass.

So what happened to the person in the dive bell screaming? (after Caz falls of the rig). He was down underwater when the drill hit the bacterium pocket and we don’t know if the door was ever opened. Hopefully no ship will pick up the dive bell after the rig exploded 😅
This game hited different on me, because i work offshore, and sometimes my wife says to me that she is scared that she'll lose me in some random day.... Tough...
My theory is that yeah what they drilled into is a Eldritch horror, and I believe that the turned crew members are acting as white blood cells, removing or killing the “bacteria” aka the crew and caz, the weird tubes acting as veins and such
The first fact you said was wrong. Him being on the oil rig has nothing to do with it being the only job he can get. He is fleeing from the police after beating someone so bad they ended up in a hospital.
I have a theory that the growth/creature is trying to assimilate people into it's form peacefully but just fails at it. When you get close to any part of the creature, especially the heart, it takes you back to your memories. It's trying to pacify people as it absorbs them but it's messing it up. It could be messing up because the people are so stressed they're only getting in fragments of memories and the panic is pulling them out, OR the creature was in a deep sleep wherever it was underwater and with it being woken up its groggy and can't use it's power right. Just my little theory on what this game I adore.
This is a great story, but the thing that takes me out of it most is the unreasonable depiction of diabetes. Roy needed insulin, not food, meaning his blood glucose was elevated, not low. Diabetics can survive for far, far longer with uncontrolled high glucose than with uncontrolled low glucose. The game only seems to take place over a few hours, so unless Roy had been very poorly controlling his diabetes prior to the game, there's little biological reason why Roy would be gone from needing insulin. It's needing glucose that's rather quickly fatal.
I'm not an expert on diabetes but it's probably all of the high activity, stress and so on that messed up Roy's insulin and glucose to dangerous levels
@@ttv_meme_manager658 they could have done basically the same story, but flipped insulin with practically any source of carbs, and it would have made complete sense Guess they spent the research budget on oil rigs lmao

Honestly a pretty good story I also like how the monsters are slightly based on deep sea creatures it’s a really cool game concept wise I think the only thing I wish it has was maybe a model viewer so you could see all the monsters
I finished the game through Game Pass. Very linear but veru well made, with a lot of scary moments. It was a little repetitive at the end, but it was still a very solid 8/10 in my opinion.
This game is the video game equivalent of the movie the borderlands (the last prayer) both take place in Scotland and both have an Eldridge monster god as the main antagonist. Both fucked me up inside.
I do hope they one day make a second game or even a dlc for this one that way we get to see more of the monster design ideas I had the idea that if they do make new ones they should have a silent (as in not talking) ruthless chaser who keeps a human form for most of the story (except have like a mutated arm or maybe abit of their back) but as they story continues you see them become more and more monstrous it can abit of different flare to monsters of this game to help spice it up for people who played this 😊
Watching the play through on RUclips was an experience. I swear, TV has nothing on games anymore. This game is a beautiful, painful story with visuals and audio enough to watch forever. I like to think there was a gas explosion and all of this was judgement.
I think the most scary thing is it DID make ot to the main land you get a "phone" call and its just your wife panicked calling the rig as if something is attacking everyone which time wise wouldn't happen. Or maybe it did happen already a fish or some other life form gor ingected and ALREADY got to a shore and fucked everything. Ethier it's presence fucks with time and showed you the future or everything was doomed as soon as rennick ordered that drilling
as much as like the horrifying idea everyone was doomed because of rennick's decision i dont think itll be possible because again timeline like you said and also because phone calls wont be available that far, hence we everyone resorts to letters. itll be cool and horrifying tho
@sodapopworks550 or possibly it was a separate timeline where she manged to get to the rig before everything went down learned about the phones and tried contacting the other caz. But a phone call could get through with that things interference. Caz entered it at the top of the rig and ended up at the bottom where it should have been underwater already but wasn't. It fucks with space which means it can mess with time
Just beat the game today, I can definitely say this felt like Dead Space without any combat. But only because the other survivors send you all around the rig to fix stuff before the place sinks or blows up. Just like Dead Space 1.
It's crazy how this isn't some alien but an organism on Earth and it has been dormant for god knows how long and we don't know if this is the only one there could be multiple just waiting for prey
Idk if I ever had a game hit my with back to back sadness like this game Once we found Roy the its just kept hitting us right until we drop the lighter, and Suz's letter. My only gripe with this game is that I wish there were more collectibles, mostly letters or notes so we can learn about the other rig workers (especially Roy, Finlay and Brodie).
I have a theory when I was playing the game everytime someone died and there was a phone call afterwards the number on the phone went down almost as it was counting down the people alive on the rig
Can't wait for this one. Just need a sale. Looks great. No matter how good, no story walking sim is worth full price imo. But this looks like one of the better ones.
There are still plot holes in the story of this game, for example, what is the mysterious creature that resembles a lump of flesh when it attacks the oil rig? 🤔
I kinda like that they didn't explain it. Leaves it up to our interpretation. I see it as a Lovecraftian eldritch monster thing from another dimension probably dug up from the cracked open floors of the sea bed. I always feel like there's another world under there. I loved this concept.
13:21 these memories are most likely false due to th fact that here suze is complaining that caz us going to the rig while at the end of the gane she seems supportive. Most likely because either caz his stay got extended, he wasn't allowed to leave or she just misses him.
This game has to be the most wildest craziest hardest and fun interesting game ever created and made Mcleary aka Caz he died a hero but went out like a brave man🥺🥹😭💔💔✊️✊️ rest in peace caz to the true heroes on the rig who was able to survive

That’s because the eldritch is also Scottish.
I've never played this game and only heard about it now, but hearing all the dialogue each time someone died was heartbreaking. Caz telling Roy to wake up then breaking down, when Brodie was talking through the speaker, and especially the last part where Caz hears Suze's voice...honestly made me cry
Its even worse playing it, because part of you KNOWS everyone is doomed but you just keep thinking "Maybe this time we'll find a way, maybe this time it'll work", just to have to face reality when Finlay gives you the lighter.
why did i genuinely cry so hard. maybe its cause this is exactly how my family would act. its how they would react and i hate how hard it hits me.
Damm i hope you get better

@@stephjarr the whole spiel with his mate, how he let himself go to mourn his passing, allowing himself to be vulnerable so if there was anything left, he'd hear how much he was loved.
This is so sad.... the whole story is 😔.... there's a lot of truth In this game on how workers are treated..
@@missyTL Yeah, I know what you mean. This was heartbreaking for me personally. I never had this happen, but I know my little sister wasn't treated well.
Roy dying hurt so bad the raw emotion portrayed by the voice actor was amazing
I honestly didn't expect such a short game to get me so emotionally invested in these characters and the story. Like, this game broke me a little bit. Having to listen to Caz' friends die horrible deaths... watching him come to the conclusion that nobody was leaving the rig alive? Gut-wrenching.
My belief of why the heli crashed was that Archie saw you and tried to go back for you but then Rennick interfered with him in an argument causing it to crash
Personally, I think Rennick started to transform when the helicorpter flew off and thats the cause of the crash
@@janeroseguino5051that's what I think too
I think it was a bit of both Archie went back for caz . rennick began to argue with him the horrors infected him and began the metamorphosis cue the crash

@@nicholasabbott-sn9hq of course, it's also likely that Rennick was already infected, and his transformation is what caused the crash
Funny how Rennick, the ones whose ego and selfishness caused all of this to begin, turned into a monster with a giant head that can barely fit through the hallway.

Bro Caz cant aurvive an explosion like that
+ hic family will be there to tell about hic past
Caz is dead
Didn’t realize how great of a setting an oil rig is for a horror game
yeah, also big cargo boats works mad good too, i remember the good old times of Monstrum, over the years a lot of indie horrors used boats as maps and they all delivered insane atmospheres
The crash is possibly the point where Rennik gets infected.
I think Rennick was infected before he even set foot in the chopper. It’s all in his voice.
When he said, “what I told them is that we’re leaving. And we ARE leaving. Now!”
His voice sounds like he’s in pain and discomfort.

The door was opened and he was a horrific growth oozing out of it halfway. It looked terrifying
He had transformed. Caz looks down at the monster towards the end like who is that?
@@AfiOye I never picked that up on the first playthrough, thank you for pointing that out, it was bugging me!
not only voice are scot which i love to hear, they also did good voice acting too. it really sad at the end.
Not all heroes survive yet their spirit still lives
This game hited different on me, because i work offshore, and sometimes my wife says to me that she is scared that she'll lose me in some random day.... Tough...
What happened in the end is that Caz was going through his last day with his family before he went to the oil rig, continuing his life flashback.
My theory is that yeah what they drilled into is a Eldritch horror, and I believe that the turned crew members are acting as white blood cells, removing or killing the “bacteria” aka the crew and caz, the weird tubes acting as veins and such
The guy who never got his insulin🥲
You mean Roy I can't believe you forgot his name he's Caz's best friend
I have never laughed so hard at some of the lines. They felt so alive as they still gave playful banter while trying to survive
I realized caz never broken his promise with roy he didn't leave , they both died on the rig as heroes
I watched James A. Janisse from the channel Dead Meat play this, and it's terrifying.
I'm not an expert on diabetes but it's probably all of the high activity, stress and so on that messed up Roy's insulin and glucose to dangerous levels
i agree thats the thing i was laughing at and made no sense to me
@@ttv_meme_manager658 they could have done basically the same story, but flipped insulin with practically any source of carbs, and it would have made complete sense
Guess they spent the research budget on oil rigs lmao
@@ZacksRockingLifestyleI agrée, it probably would not make sense for him to not have any carbs since he was a chef trapped in a kitchen 😂

Intense, tragic, body horror. All the good stuff.
I finished the game through Game Pass. Very linear but veru well made, with a lot of scary moments. It was a little repetitive at the end, but it was still a very solid 8/10 in my opinion.
Totally off point, but a few voice actors from HITMAN: WOA are here such as Alec Newman, Nicholas Boultan, and Stewart Scudamore.
I cried when Roy and Brodie died.
Caz too 😢
Caz made me cry the most and I teared up on Roy. The way Caz cried over him.
This game is the video game equivalent of the movie the borderlands (the last prayer) both take place in Scotland and both have an Eldridge monster god as the main antagonist. Both fucked me up inside.
I just finished the game i almost cried the ending HIT me so hard
This game and soma best narrative games I’ve played
Soma is around 10 times better than Still Wakes the Deep. This doesn't even cut close
The one in the Landry room just wanted to wash his clothes
I do hope they one day make a second game or even a dlc for this one that way we get to see more of the monster design ideas
I had the idea that if they do make new ones they should have a silent (as in not talking) ruthless chaser who keeps a human form for most of the story (except have like a mutated arm or maybe abit of their back) but as they story continues you see them become more and more monstrous it can abit of different flare to monsters of this game to help spice it up for people who played this 😊
Watching the play through on RUclips was an experience.
It fucks with space which means it can mess with time
The reason Caz was on that rig was to avoid the police after getting into a bad bar fight
Its such a good game with genuine acting i hope a part 2 or more horror games a made like this
This game reminds me so much of dead space and the thing! Really cool
Just beat the game today, I can definitely say this felt like Dead Space without any combat. But only because the other survivors send you all around the rig to fix stuff before the place sinks or blows up. Just like Dead Space 1.
There is a thing called “dawn power wash spray” works very well
Rennick was the true villain in this game
It's true. He was the one responsible for the Incident on the Oil Rig by his orders! 😤
So happy that The Chinese Room is back.
It's crazy how this isn't some alien but an organism on Earth and it has been dormant for god knows how long and we don't know if this is the only one there could be multiple just waiting for prey
I think he died when he fell of the rig at the beginning of the game. He was just going through hell to get to heaven. That is how I took the story.
I like this idea!
I've been waiting for this video❤!
Idk if I ever had a game hit my with back to back sadness like this game
Once we found Roy the its just kept hitting us right until we drop the lighter, and Suz's letter.

maybe it is not supposed to be told. Why should they know it? They work on a oil rig. Not a lab.
I kinda like that they didn't explain it. Leaves it up to our interpretation. I see it as a Lovecraftian eldritch monster thing from another dimension probably dug up from the cracked open floors of the sea bed. I always feel like there's another world under there. I loved this concept.
Beautiful voice acting.
13:21 these memories are most likely false due to th fact that here suze is complaining that caz us going to the rig while at the end of the gane she seems supportive. Most likely because either caz his stay got extended, he wasn't allowed to leave or she just misses him.
the character development mid horror is what makes the game truly scary
