Only 2 good things about Suoergirl - this triumphant soundtrack and Helen Slater. GOD SHE WAS LOVELY. I prefer the end track they eventually used not the alternative. But many thanks for sharing as not heard it.
This very much could have been the score to "Superman" if Jerry Goldsmith scored Richard Donnor's film. Of course, he had scheduling conflicts and Donnor got John Williams.
This ranks second only to Star Trek the Motion Picture for being the most ferocious, thundering, wonderfully bombastic Jerry Goldsmith music I've ever heard.
I recommend Goldsmith's 'The Wind And The Lion' (just in case you haven't heard that yet). I enjoy 'Supergirl', but I think Goldsmith was working with a problematic film and it affected exactly what he could do with it.
Must say Horner and Silvestri was between Goldsmith and Williams. This soundtrack is pure Goldsmith style. Lets go to play and listen some sountracks of Goldsmith like The Swarm.
The actual soundtrack is magnificent. Not a single iffy track. Id definitely put it up there with John Williams Superman the Movie scores. Both never get old and Jerry's Supergirl soundtrack was easily too good for the movie. Same goes for his Star Trek the Motion Picture score. That made that movie.
Ohhh...that transition right at 7:37 to the MAIN theme is AWKWARD as hell on this long version. The short version was seamless and beautiful (you know what i'm talking about...it has that flying-zoomy-sprinkly chime before powerfully busting right into the first duh-duh-duh-DUUUUH....) Here, it's like they just cassette-edited the opening theme onto the end of the Final Showdown and Victory track.
Well, Goldsmith used this kind of ostinatos before Supergirl was released in 1984. Listen action music in The Swarm, that Jerry composed in 1978 (the same year of Superman). Indeed Goldmith was choosen to score Superman, but he was so busy, that he recommended John Williams to Richard Donner. Donner wanted Jerry because both had a great experience together for The Omen (1976).
Maybe we are INSIDE more Supergirl, but we think in the daily routine, and have magic power and beauty INSIDE, because we living not here on the dark, cold and hateful earth, but we are Superbeings from a other world, full of endless power and love?????? How know?!?
This is an EPIC MASTERPIECE among live-action comic book superhero feature film scores !

@@CaminoAir I remember seeing that movie many years ago and yes, I do remember the music being very lively and bouncy.

She was so pretty.. Music goes well
Supergirl: "I can't... I can't...!!"
Zaltar: "YOU CAN!!!"
This movie is so damn underrated.
I think I prefer this Supergirls theme, to the new one, as grew up with this Supergirl.
David Watters So did I grow up with Her As Well. 100% Agree with you!!
Excellent , I have to see this movie again some how and the score rocks :D
jerry goldsmith, roy budd, ron goodwin and michael j lewis my favourites by quite a mile
Between John Williams, James Horner and Alan Silvestri I especially like how playful Jerry Goldsmith tends to get

They're all in good company, because they have ALL won oscars for their scores.
Keith Ranson except Alan Silvestri.
@@jandreidrn True, but he still deserves credit

Supernivek80 agreed, this is a terrible edit... cut and paste job for sure
AND I just realized they recycled the Power of Shadow sequence AGAIN towards the end...from THIS track already! Amateur job lol
It is somewhat buried in the mix but Goldsmith quotes John Williams' Superman march ostinato 3:47 -4:03

me Travis bernardini big fan Supergirl season 2
I've always felt this is as good as Williams'.
For me, Goldsmith its more powerful and out-of-this-world music including wonderful main themes.
5:51 and 9:07 (thank me later)
