Nice job on the video. Honorable mention goes to Liquid Liquid + Bush Tetras. No wave was too ahead of its time for most to grasp. In some ways still is.
Good breakdown of the many phases of Swans. I discovered them with the Greedcalbum and their industrial sound. I loved Filth and Children of God as well.
I'm on a "genre search" trying to find music that's similiar to HEALTH (I dunno if you know the band), looked for noise rock, didn't like what i found then I searched for this genre, liked how it sounded and your video just explained the history and style of it, now I'm really interested into this genre. Love your video, it's a shame you didn't get much views : /
SaimizZ I’ve heard of HEALTH! I actually saw them live last month when they opened for Daughters, they were really good. I’m glad that people are still finding and enjoying this video I made back in high school. :) No one in my video class was really interested in it when I presented it but I’m overjoyed knowing people on here take an interest in it.If you’re looking for noise rock specific type music, you could try using these links to find highly acclaimed noise rock stuff or learn about it: rateyourmusic.com/genre/Noise+rock and rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=alltime&genre_include=1&genres=Noise+Rock&include_child_genres=t&include=both&limit=none&countries= Rate Your Music is an amazing site to use if you’re looking for great music or genre specific stuff. This is awesome, can't believe im seeing this now, well done on the video essay! I have always loved No Wave and I loved pissing people off by blasting DNA and Mars lmao. No Wave has a special place in my heart. And for anyone that claims it was dumb or historically irrelevant; The first wave of NoWave led into the second wave in 1980 which brought about absolute gems like Sonic Youth and Swans, which I feel were crucial in inspiring all forms of alternative music as well as the "indie" style between the mid 80s to 2000. EDIT: I was writing this as I was listening to the video and you mentioned the second wave after I finished lol, good on you.
I actually heard the s/t Teenage Jesus & The Jerks LP. Each song on the album starts and ends abruptly, making the transitions from song to song very jarring and unsettling. 🥶
I think you did a good job. Although mic quality kinda sucked. Also, I would have appreciated it if you talked about the much more dance oriented version of no wave that came about after New York was picking up again, because no wave didn't really die in 1980, it just had evolved into something different from the abrasive avant-garde punk sound from the late 70s, which even then didn't really die out totally, and really lasted until 1985. If you want to know what I'm talking about, here's a good example of the later dancer version of no wave. ruclips.net/video/jxsrIoFiY64/видео.html
Thugs, hobos and junkies would afford basically any apartment so they moved in the best of the houserooms. Being notably terrible neighbours, they then made orderly people around leave and flee for the suburbs
Lydia Lunch is highly overrated. She got her name from being a dead boys groupie. Least interesting band on NNY- and there’s rumors she kept Von Lmo and James Chance off that album.
Yeah you can cope all you want SWANS is still great just in different ways and in some similar ones, but you are just like any other listener that only likes a band for the stuff you feel nostalgic for, instead of understanding that they change and get more complex which SWANS do some bands don't but SWANS do.
The gospel is 1cor15:1-4 how that Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day according to the scriptures. If you believe this the Holy Spirit entwines with your soul creating a new creature in Christ who is saved from hell and whose sin debt is paid in full by the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Great video. I'm 35 and love Sonic Youth. I almost died from heart failure from drugs and alcohol. I used to love to get as high as possible and rock out. Be careful everyone. Life is fragile and tomorrow is not guaranteed. A prideful person will say I'm good enough just the way I am. Humble yourself, admit that you are a sinner and let Jesus make your soul clean so you can enter heaven. We still have corrupt flesh after being saved. It's spiritual warfare until we leave this flesh. I pray you do well on your journey, in Jesus name Amen
Congratulations on this fabulous documentary at a time when quality is increasingly scarce...

Just now seeing this in 2019. Crazy this didn't get more traction. This video is well structured and edited.
no mention of glenn branca ? :/ sonic youth got their start in his band

Madonna credits Bush Tetras as an influence when she first moved to NYC
don't forget about early swans
Pop filter brother.... Great video.
Fantastic work! Thank you for making this, it was a great watch.
Good breakdown of the many phases of Swans. I discovered them with the Greedcalbum and their industrial sound. I loved Filth and Children of God as well.
King heroin was the first one I heard back on Napster by the Contortions in the day, it blew me away.

I saw health with youth code about two years ago. But if your looking for good noise rock, check out swans
@@ipodwallify dude I saw daughters in like 2006 at a Knights of Columbus outside of Chicago. I'm glad they're still playing. thanks for the vid!
sorry but HEALTH is officially a considered a cum metal
RIP JAMES CHANCE
Damn, I had no idea....I saw James White & the Blacks in the long ago.....incredible spirit

I watched a No Wave documentary to gain a better understanding of it.
I am now, more confused🤔

0:39 Why would low rents cause crime rates to sky rocket?

Never heard of No Wave till today
Ok😮
The Contortions could play pretty well I think.
very well done!
So what makes Cop a Noise Rock album? Sounds pretty No Wave to me.
It’s not like those two genres are mutually exclusive, if anything they tend to go hand in hand
Amazing⚡️
What's that Swans song at 09:56 ? So intense!
It comes from this video ruclips.net/video/jFHQiYvuVlM/видео.html :)
Nice video
I understand you focused mainly on NYC but, no “No Trend”?
Great video thanks!
Nice!
Frankie Teardrop isn't about a Vietnam Veteran:(
Totalism in the last clip of Swans.
Nice video though
Cool video and I realise you're a punk fan and you like it rough around the edges, but dude...
...pop filter
Pardon, what? lmao
Ohhhh it took me a moment, yeah I had no good mic, let alone any mic really, at the time I made this lol
DNA were more abrasive than Swans?
Yes

Only old Swans was truly great, their later stuff is inferior
lies
Lm fucking ao. Leave
yeah their reunion stuff is fine but its nothing compared to filth, soundtracks, etc

this bible verse is very frequently mentioned throughout no wave songs
