I think making the challenge your own by converting it to word counts is cool and unique, especially because technically each of the stormlight books is 3 books of stories woven together into single chunker of a book.
Congrats! I think going for page numbers makes sense if you are a fantasy reader. I just finished my challenge earlier this week from last year. I started with a tbr comparable to yours (350). It was really difficult at the end but I am also glad to have done it, simply for the insights. I will go for a shorter version of 25 starting next year.
Congratulations on completing your challenge. I'm halfway through my current read what you own challenge of 25 books and I certainly recognise some of the same things that you found in your challenge.
Great, let me know what you think of the book. Apparantly there doesn't exist a standard for what is 'fast reading'. Compared to booktubers like Brian Lee Durfee or Olly I truly am a slow reader.
I love this video, it sounds like the challenge was a good experience for you, at least mentally :-) And I love your generosity. I am curious to see which charity will get your donation. Well done! Kind regards,
YEA! Those mammoths should count for 3 books each, at least! Congratulations!! The conclusions you reached are the same as my recent insights on my book buying "addiction". But, I went to a library sale on Thursday and bought 11 books!! 🙄 I only spent $7.50, but certainly I did not need any more books!! And, I need to stop getting books from the library and read from my own stock!! I also hope to get better at DNFing when a book is not my jam. That is very hard for me as finishing what I've started is an ingrained habit. Changing/breaking habits is very hard!! I look forward to hearing what book will be your next purchase. 🙂.
Library sales are extremely hard to resist. I've think I've said it before, but we are not hurting anyone with our book buying addiction. Still haven't purchased anything new... But in my shopping cart reside Tress of the Emerald Sea & Magic Bites, the first Kate Daniels book. See! Not buying an entire series at once, but trying out a first book. Don't know yet when I'll hit the 'check-out' button.
@@DutchGreyBeard Fingers crossed that you enjoy the Andrews! It's the first series that I've read back to back without taking a break between books due to boredom with the "sameyness" of the books. Glad you are resisting buying the whole series and just getting a taste. And more Sanderson!! You are truly a "Sanderfan" now. In addition to my normal mysteries, from the sale I got Seabiscuit, a NF about the racehorse by Hillenbrand and London by Rutherford. And another Pern book by McCaffrey! Used SFF are not easy to find. All 3 were 50c each. 🙂 I finished The Will of the Many with Raiders of the Lost Ark music once again playing in my head. It's amazing how the young protagonists in fantasy recover from major injuries so quickly! The ending was unexpected. I look forward to #2 in the series coming out in the spring. I so very much enjoy your visits! Thank you!!
@@bjminton2698 If you like the Andrews-books this much, I'm quite confident I'll like 'm too. I first want to read Islington's Licanus Trilogy, before moving on to The Will of the Many, but I'm convinced now that it is for me as well. Today I finish reading Oathbringer. I love this book, but still... Freedom!!!
Amazing. Wish I could do that. FOMO is a drag. To be fair I buy some special editions so if I don't buy them I won't get it. Argh. Next year I will change... Let us see if I have a will
Congrats! Perhaps you should think about reading e-books, if you use a subscription to go out much cheaper, at least it can be used on books that you are not 100% sure of, and the shelf space is not rubbery! Or do you accept only paper?
Thanks. I have thought (and still think) about reading e-books, but I am afraid it won't work for me. My habit of underlining and scribling words in the margins with a pencil is hard to break. In a way, every book I have read, holds a kind of diary of my reading experience. With e-books it wouldn't work the same. But I certainly can see the advantages of e-books.
@@sergeybudarin7071 I have heard that there are. Still, the experience is different and even though I only occassionally revisited a physical book, the fact that it's there - easy to pick from my shelves - is comforting somehow. And even though I would call myself tech savvy, I mistrust the retrievability of my e-book 'dairies'. But still, it might be good to just give it a try at some point.
The size of most fantasy books caused me to drop the Goodreads challenge for number of books read in a year. I’m a few hours away from finishing Oathbringer. I will then read Dawnshard, also as an ebook. After those I need a break from The Stormlight Archive. My son has said book 4 is a bit different.
Wow, we almost finish reading Oathbringer at the same time (although I'm probably a few hours behind you). I will finish in a couple of hours and after that will take a break from bricks for a while.
Congrats! It sounds like in addition to putting a dent in your TBR, mentally this was a healthy experience for you.
Absolutely, for as long as it lasts...

Exactly. Apparantly I needed Olly from CriminOlly to help me see that as well
Well said, thank you for sharing your experience and what you learned from it!

bedankt voor de wijze woorden en inspiratie.
Meer dan graag gedaan!
Slow reading with "only" 60 books max? That is a whole lot more than I can get through in a year 😂
I wish I could read that fast and that many books!
Also thank you for introducing me to Guy Gavriel Kay. I just started Tigana 👍🏻

Thanks Nev! I will start reading Lord Dunsany tomorrow (18 nov).
That’s what I call a pragmatic solution 😂

😂😂 Id do the same.
