wow! just wow the information in this video and the appreciation of slemanis actual history from a native slemani citizen is immensly appreciated, amazing work i was very entertained !
Thank you for this beautiful video! Actually I was born in Slemani, but we moved to Germany as Ive been a couple of month old… so here I am. A German with kurdish roots who speaks kurdish fluently. I miss Slemani often as I fly there every year, but when there‘s no time, I watch videos of Slemani. :-)

That ancient "wide-eyed" statue at the end reminds me of stuff from Mari in Syria. There have been ongoing international archaeological digs in the Kurdish-controlled areas lately. Is it from them or was it something hidden from the ISIS iconoclasts? Also where is it now displayed - the Museums open again there?
It was labelled as "Statue of a Worshipper" from the early Dynastic period 2800-2300 BCE. A real gem. The Museum is indeed open although currently under renovation. The museum in Baghdad that was famously looted is also open again. I'll feature it in my Baghdad film in the future.
@@TravelObscurer Thanks! That tallies with the dates of the high points of the old kingdom and time as a major trading waypoint of the city of Mari on the Euphrates. We were lucky enough to get a tour through Syria while the older Assad still had things clamped down somewhat peaceably. Sad to remember what we saw and what was subsequently lost. ☹
You didnt go to saholaka that’s why you didnt find something to eat 😉 Trust me there’s many options in saholaka actually if u go there you’d end up only eating for the rest of that night 😅

The land of Assyrian nation took over by kurds, and saddam was the best for iraq since he's gone the country turned to shit.
