Hey guys. The original song was done in major chords whereas the DS plays it in A minor. This is a Depression era song. It's also a Prison song about a guy in stir only having this memory of this woman to keep him going. He has nothing but this memory and a Dear John letter would leave him with nothing. The use of the Cello is brilliant in enveloping us with the feeling of terrible sadness and loneliness. Thanks guys. Stay safe
These guys are so good. I stumbled on this song a couple weeks ago....then i had to go and binge a ton of their music. Also, I am pretty sure these are the original lyrics
They used the real lyrics, but most people sing it all cheerful and happy, and skip out the VERSES, and just sing the chorus, alone. It's a heart-broken song, sang as happy-go-lucky love song, and THIS VERSION ROCKS!
2 points. The song is the original lullaby, it's about a guy in prison whose wife said she'd wait for him, but didn't. And if you notice the entire video was filmed in one continuous shot.

I’ve only ever heard the chorus but I looked it up and they sure are the same lyrics! - kloquewerk
@@Roblockdn I thought so. Lol...
I did the same the first time I heard them.
I never thought I could hear something my mother would sing to me as a child could turn this dark. I love it though, I thought it was amazing.
They definitely put a unique spin on this one lol - 🎙 Wil
Try Jonny Cash and Bod Dillon version 😮

Agreed - big time
Yep, original lyrics, makes you realise how few people actually REALLY listen to the music they consume, great comment, thanks!
It's about a man in prison who gets a "dear john" letter from his wife who had promised to wait for him!
It sounded like anguish expressed through gritted teeth. He's hurting because she's taking his sunshine away.
Appreciate the clarification
"Men have a shitty response to heart break". Truer words have never been spoken.
1940's original lyrics from Jimmie Davis. TDS turned it into a threat and it's amazingly wonderful and dark.
Love The Dead South
This is an amazing cover. It’s haunting.
Thanks for all the county song uploads I’m loving them.
Amazing how this version makes you listen to the words and think. We all assumed it was a fun song. It never was.

Their music always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
The visual was more impressive as it was a single continuous shot.
Black Lung is an awesome song as well
You'd get a good laugh out of "banjo odyssey"

They are actually singing the nursery sing we thought was happy was a sad meaning behind it.
Yes it is
Yall need to hear "In hell id be good company"
My Grandmother would sing this to me as a child while playing the ukulele. She would sing it soooo sadly. She did it legit.
A lot of nursery rhymes are dark af at their core.
This is johnny cash's version. I can't say if it's'nursery ryme' original but Johnny did these lyrics also
Listen to “Black Lung” by these guys. Crazy talented. They will show up on SNL soon.
Check out Banjo Odyssey!!!

One of the worst "stalker" song is the Monkees Mary Mary. Luv to see reaction video.
This is dark song a-f. Dunno why people sing it like it is some fun, light song.
You want messed up and sad. Try the original version of My Darling Clementine
