Do you have a link to a replacement crown gear top half? I’ve inspected the mechanism and came to the conclusion it’s replaceable. From what I have seen it acts as a “clutch” and slips whenever the head or tail is stuck. This was most likely added to keep the whistle piece from snapping. Since these fish are owned by collectors they won’t have to have a slipping gear design, so no crown gear. I’m assuming I could get away with using a regular stacked gear with the same # of teeth. Please let me know if you have found a replacement gear. Thank you - LOADING
Hello. I don't have a replacement gear unfortunately. Most spare gears I've found are from doner singing fishes that I've used for parts. You can get these gears from other singing fishes that have been used for parts. Hope this helps!
@@lakewi44 Oh good! I'm glad you responded. I'm having trouble with the body mechanism. It tries to move up, but then it clicks. The whistle peice on mine is fine. Is there a split in one of the gears? It moves the tail, but not the head. Any assistance would be appreciated. Mine doesn't have a spring. Thanks.
Tom Foolery The whistle piece may be split in half or is starting to split. You might want to double check it again make sure all the gears aren’t broken or cracked
@@lakewi44 Nope. Fixed him yesterday. Just out of place. Thanks anyway though. One more thing. Can you take the skin off a rocky lobster? Gonna repair him too. Any ideas? Don't really know we're to begin.

Man, i wish I had watched this video before trying to fix my jaws ended up screwing up the mech :( i guess the good thing is when i get another one i will have the first one for parts
Hi lakewi I’m repairing a billy bass 15th anniversary currently following this step by step and it all works fine until I put it in the skin the tail still works and the mouth but the head won’t turn out and if I take it back out the skin the hinge is working so I was wondering if you know what to do?
Pardon me for not scrolling down far enough in the comments, BUT... TL:DR... Two of my single-motor fish more than likely need replacement paddles. Any idea as of now where I can find them? Here's the situation... A few days ago, I purchased a Travis the Trout, a Cool Catfish, and a Rocky the Lobster, all in new condition, never taken out of their boxes. I got them today, took them out, put fresh batteries in all three of them... turns out, Travis and Cool CatFish (Catty, as I nickname him) have something split in the gearboxes for their heads, presumably the paddles. I know for a fact that it's not a locked up motor, otherwise Travis's tail most likely wouldn't be operating, and Catty's head wouldn't be buzzing as it tries to move. Now Rocky... I don't even know if there's anything split with him because he won't even turn on, neither with button or motion sensor, so that's an electronics issue first and foremost (but that's irrelevant for the topic of the video). But with regards to Travis and Catty, I want to be ready in case it is a split paddle, which so far, that's seeming to be the case. But as you said yourself, they're hard to find at times.
It is tricky. You can try maybe parting out a junk fish. Or maybe rig something up. Or maybe you could try 3D printing new paddles. One of my friends has a computer model for the whistle pieces but you need a 3D printer to print them. If you’d like, I can link you the website where you can download them
@@lakewi44 I'd appreciate that, thank you! I'd rather be prepared to replace one rather than see that it's broken and not have one at my disposal. My manager at work even told me there are places close to where I live where I can get them 3D-Printed, so I can just take the file there.
@@lakewi44 Unless you know of someone that can do that and have them shipped to me? (similar to the guy that you mentioned that no longer prints them?)
@@captainducra5019 Apparently the reason why he stopped selling them is because of people reporting bad issues with them. But I never had issues personally. There’s a website you can go onto online that has a 3-D model of the whistle piece. If you know someone that has access to a 3-D printer you can see if they can print one
What is the proper name of the paddle piece? I want to look it up on eBay to see if they are able to be purchased. I really need they because my 15 year Billy bass, cool catfish and Travis trout all have this same problem.
Wyatt Mutter There is no official names for them. We just call them paddles because they go underneath the gear and they’re shaped like a paddle. You might be able to rig something up that’s what I’ve had to do. Occasionally you can find 3-D printed ones. But they are rare
That's ashame because like I said, my cool catfish, Travis trout, 15 year Billy bass all have this problem. Thank you for your help, do you know any other way I might be able to make a custom piece without a 3D printer?
Wyatt Mutter If you have spare Singing fish pieces laying around, you can take a Billy best jaw or tailpiece and cut it in the shape of the whistle piece and put it underneath the gear it should work. Eventually I might start in 3-D printing
Lucky, I have a Billy bass I can scrap for parts. Thank you so much for all your help, if you start 3d printing the pieces, I will definitely be buying them from you
They unfortunately don’t sell them anymore, but I can send you a link to the 3-D printed versions that one of my friends made. You’ll have to shrink them down a bit as close to the original as possible before printing them otherwise it’ll be giant
Hello Lake! I've got a question. Has your Rocking fish Crappie ever had problems? Mine is acting strange. It only wiggles it's tail once while playing a seconds worth of its song, then goes silent. I thought low battery, but to my surprise the batteries are still good. I replaced them but he keeps doing the same. What do you think?
I hope you realize that your Freaky Geeks aren't prototypes. I made them in 2016 when I was more immature. Bailey told me he told you but it seems like you don't know. Just thought I should point that out.
I wish there were whistle pieces at shapeways.com, because Henry dosen't sell those anymore nowadays.
