Negan was powerful because of his army, he ruled through intimidation and refused to eliminate the threat of Rick. The Governor was powerful because he was insane and willing to risk it all, he ruled through his charisma and trustworthy appearance and in the end he won by destroying the prison.
@@Redman_real Negan had great charisma, however his intimidating demeanour overruled that. An example of this is when he was joking about Fat Joey, although we see it as quite humorous, Joey was terrified and laughing along out of fear. To the more broken, twisted and crazy Saviours, this likely wouldn’t have been an issue.
@@LoverIsaDayy wrong. The governor killed the first two leaders of his second group to be become the new leader. He only wanted revenge since he lost his family and even Woodbury. He said he wanted the prison to be their home to make the ppl think he wants the best for them but in reality he used them to destroy the prison and defeat Rick and his group. Even if ricks group would’ve left he would probably still try to kill them.
The Governor is probably my favourite villain because he is the most realistic. He isn't just a lunatic or a fanatic, he's a man who lost his family and couldn't accept his daughter was dead, and so he kept her reanimated corpse chained up in the hope that one day he can get her back. He was deranged and power hungry, he needed people to follow him, he needed to control them, and as soon as they didn't believe in him, the mask slipped and he killed them all. He's almost sympathetic because he's a villain born out of tragedy and trauma, he was trying to build a community and keep them safe, but his greed and his ego turned him into a monster. I think we are all capable of becoming a villain like the Governor depending on how he cope with loss and grief, and how power corrupts. He was a sociopath and a psychopath, but he was so human
Great description, although he probably is a sociopath not a psychopath. Psychopaths are born, sociopaths are made. Psychopaths petty much completely lack any empathy sympathy or guilt. The governors ptsd is what sent him off the edge.
I agree 100% but too say someone just being a lunatic isn't realistic isn't true the truth is some people and lunatics others are sadistic and others are like the governor just because a villain is insane doesn't mean there unrealistic it depends on the specific person and there mental state, goals, strengths, weaknesses and over all personality
Hopefully the new Walker Dead spinoff that explores Alpha explores his transformation as well. Honestly in my opinion that new show should be designed so each season is focused on a different villain and the lead up to who they were in the show. The Governor and the start of Woodbury, Gareth after they got Terminus back, Negan after his wife died and Alpha and the formation of The Whisperers. All this would flesh out the villains in the show making it so when you watch the main show you're not always rooting for the hero and hating the villain, it adds depth making you understand the pain of someone like The Governor or Alpha.
What a cinematic masterpiece dude, the governor is one of the best villains in tv history and you showed his transformation perfectly I don’t think there’s another video on him that is this good! Amazing job!!
David Morrisey really just smashed this role out of the park. He brought a character that you simultaneously despised, admired, sympathised with, and enjoyed.
I could have watched the Governor for another few seasons. David's performance was incredible and all of his fights were impressive, he was relentless. I also think he is the most realistic villain, so evil but at the same time so easy to empathize with to a certain extent. He simply had everything to be a memorable villain. Also his relationship with Lilly and Meghan kinda moved me 😭
@@unknown_user4463 beta is only 1 inch taller than the governor. They have the same build. Governor is more crazy and more unpredictable, which is Beta's weakness considering unpredictablity and getting outsmarted was what got him beat both times.
The Governor was the only one who left Rick destroyed and the only one who almost killed Rick and speaking of facts, The Governor is the best villain of the entire series Negan showed humanity to Carl and unlike the Governor, Negan was not killed and then changed
Just got really sad hearing Merle, man he honestly was one of my fav characters, so underrated. Had that great survivalist mindset almost like Shane, but he put loyalty to his family first instead of anything else, but when it came to fighting the governor, for some reason he did it alone..
Merle and Shane for me. Some of the absolute best characters imo. Negan, Governor, Rick, Merle, Shane, Carol and Michonne gotta be my all time favorites. Basically all the fucked up and tragic characters lol
My favorite is indeed the governor in terms of characters because he reminds me a lot of Walter white. Philip Blake (aka the governor) hated his life before the apocalypse because it's was the same cycle over and over again then it zombies came, it gave him a chance to be the man he was wanted to be, but it's tragic as the power hungry side came from tragedy of losing his family, plus on top of his ego it really shows a well written character that can be sympathetic, favorite character in the series as he shows the truth about people wanting a chance to prove the great man they could be while he got that chance, he lost his family which made ok with being the monster.
Hes nothing like walter white. Walt did all for a reason and in the end he couldnt kill jessie or hank they were risking his entire life walter was evil but inside just scared man. The governor is just psyhcophat . He just like the power and kills even his man for fun. Walter more like negan instead governor. Negan became good man in the end. He killed the guy who wanted him to return his old version
I can't believe the Governor. Even when he was a Villain, he lost everything such as his home, his daughter and Andrea. The apocalypse gave him another chance to be the man who he was before and put his past aside for his new founded life and love but he wasted it for greed, power, envy and his Psychopathic ego which left him with nothing. Great Video My Man Kekker, once the best always the best
I love Negan and he is my favourite character and was even in season 7 and 8. But as a threatening Villain to our characters The Governor still is number one in the show and the only one that got the best of Rick in a fight. After 11 Seasons he still holds the throne as the greatest villain on the show.
I’ve been WAITING FOR THIS 🙌🏻 🙌🏻 I LOVE YOU SO MUCH 😂 And I love that transition at 3:03 ! The Governor was one helluva complicated man, that’s why I loved him so much & David Morrissey’s portrayal of him just made him that much more layered. The difference i see between Negan and the Governor is simple, Negan almost everyone seems to love, but Governor everyone seems to know is a very evil dude so people don't exactly "love" him like people do with Negan yet everyone seems to think Negan is the better and stronger bad guy....think about this, what makes a villain great? Making them someone you cheer for or hate? I know i'm probably saying more than i'm thinking but that's just me.🙂
David morrissey did this character justice he turned the most vile and disgusting character from the comics into the most threatening and psychotic villain in this show
