Magnus got taxed 103% on his income and neither he nor the Norwegians cried about it. Gukesh will pay what anybody else would if they bring in that amount is money.

Government gas just started investing in Chess and the batch you see right now didn't get support while they played all those tournaments to gain rating and in chess you have to play in Europe to gain ratings and gain norms otherwise you can't become a good chess player. So, if you want the sport to grow and are taking credit for the winner then yes he deserves that tax exemption. He got full sponsor this year in April.

May be an unpopular opinion but government is expected to invest heavily in sports, build infrastructure which costs millions, support sportspeople in all their needs and when they win big, no tax should be asked. How does that work?!
Everyone is in favor of his exemption bcz Chess wasn't getting support from Indian government. This year they have started programs. Chess players pay their own and sometimes get some help here and there. Chess community is close also bcz of this and they sometimes pay for someone else's bills so the one doing well can achieve GM norms (there are many such stories). Gukesh didn't have any sponsor till this year April means bills were paid by his family and they did get support from state government but mainly his prize money was paying his bills for travel to other countries for tournaments(in chess that's necessary). Anand's academy started providing him paid trainer for 2 years. So, no chess players were funded by private sponsors that's why many leave chess bcz it's expensive and it has no money until you reach the top.

These things really boosted Chess in India and in point of fact they personally impacted Gukesh. So how are such things supposed to be funded? Ordinary people have to fund infrastructure and events and sportspeople will be tax exempt, is it? People are so ignorant. But what a cut and dried way to think you have posted!
