i dont understand whats overall confusion about; trump is not gonna wage full plegded war, he is going to bomb the s*it out of ballistic rocket and uranium enrichment programs, regime hubs, kill as much high gov. heads as possible and thats it; if some reasonable dictator/ayatollah willing to make gas/oil deal with him does not arise, he may bomb oil rafineries and gas resevoirs too and leave the country in chaos of civil war, he doesn ´t care about such miniscule stuff as democracy or some; there will be lot of suffering, mass migration, prices will go up (this late one might be point of concern; hence no bombing of rafineries after all? i dunno...china is big buyer, so it may play role too) main thing is that world (not even russia wish iran having nukes) will have just about decade of no nuke threat from this region (iran was steadily progressing towards it, i mean, even those controlling organs under obamas nuclear treaty confirms, that they are enriching over 60%, while 15% is absolute top max for energy needs, and that they are developing ballistic missiles in 5 yrs top - there was no immanent danger - while we were just going to watch it happen and no one was doing anything - there was going to be new north korea with relious fundamentalism flavour) ...as much as i hate trump, this is, in a very brutal and straightforward way, objectvively more decisive and effective measure, than endlessly coordinate some forever war with allies...and thats that; america will unapologetically go for its goals and we either follow or stay aside...and frankly, we (eu) are defensless and in constant decision paralysis, dependant on resources, military tech and computing technology, there is no option for us and trump knows it...korea, japan has to follow too, its mob like demonstration of power forcing us to pledge obedience, america roars and rustle with chains; good morning, brave new world, rise and shine; thats the new global strategy; to use usa technological and military dominance in its favor while it still can...i mean, its plain and simple, no rocket science here

@7JeTeL7well yes, I don’t think there’s much disagreement here. The analysis I more in the ‘how’, why thy don’t appear to have a plan for any of it (kind of bomb and ask questions later) and whether it will work as intended.
The hallmark of this administration is a lack of foresight / any thought at all into second and third order consequences.

I've had the same feeling Rory mentioned halfway in this video. Iran is no friend to European interests. But Trump has proven so incompetent that he has managed to go about this in such a way as to alienate all possible support from allies other than Israel. He has spent an entire year mocking Europe, threatening them with tariffs, and backing out of the one conflict that Europe wholeheartedly supports (the defense of Ukraine). European interest and American interests have diverged in a dramatic way in just one year with Trump. I don't think Putin could have hoped for a better outcome.

Israel supports the most extreme and militant groups to keep its 'enemies' (ie, every non-Jewish nation in the region) divided, weak, and preferably at war.
I find it staggering you could be so ignorant. Iran is the 'greatest threat' because they want to defend themselves. They have been suffering warlike acts from the Israelis going back decades. If they get a nuke, that will have to stop which is why Israel is so desperate.

Yes Alastair! For how many years have we been saying that energy sources close to home (renewables) are resistant to supply disruption. Russian's invasion of Ukraine was a huge "wake up" opportunity.
I have an electric car, solar panels, and I live in Australia, but all of that won't protect us from the inevitable price rises and scarcity that is about to start. And we do know that prices of all goods will rise regardless of supply or disruption shocks because it's a perfect opportunity for sellers to raise prices and have us accept it as being necessary. I noticed that the day after the US/Israel action began, petrol stations over here already hiked their prices by upwards of 20 cents per litre. And that is even though no oil could possibly have pumped, been sent to a refining country, been refined, then sent to Australia.
If the world weaned ourselves off ME oil and gas, their influence over prices and supply would vanish into a puff of carbon-soaked air.
I sound like a crazy prepper, but here we are...

The hope is that Europe and the democratically minded middle powers like Canada, Japan, South Korea and Australia will, given the freedom to work around the United States rather than through it, be able to work to create a more balanced world order. A world where a single country cannot dictate the policy of the west, or choose on a whim to drag whole regions into war may be better. The worry that we return to the world of the Cold War or the late 19th and early 20th centuries is valid, but there are many potential benefits to the non American west to be found in a more multipolar world.

Say payment in the form of extra F-35 and heaps of AA missiles for them to for our carriers, a heap of Patriot missiles and other goodies that we don't have to pay for from the American's obsolete cold war pile sent to Ukraine etc. Still a terrible terrible idea, but being able to say something that makes the position sound sane and fair enough on the world stage and provides a real boost to security in our neck of the woods...

I have zero sympathy for a regime that has slaughtered thousands of its own people the last 12 months. Iran would stoop so low actually. As for bombing schools & hospitals have you heard the term human shield? A tactic used by Hamas in Gaza where they would store weapons such as rockets & bombs in the basements of these places knowing where thousands of its people would be congregated, giving Israel the dilemma of bombing the enemy where civilians could be hiding /congregating. War is not pretty. Regarding Iran did you hear of the teenage girl who was raped then hanged? she was hanged for being raped. This is the evil Israel & America are going to eradicate hopefully.

Because China historically was the vastly bigger threat and while you get on well with Europe geography isn't on your side in mutually supporting each other etc. Given recent events does seem like all of the USA's old allies need to kick them out the clubhouse and figure out how to get on without them.

Why anyone would have voted for him after his disaster first term is frustrating. So now just a year into Donalds second term and MAGA has given us a golfing, demented old man that couldn’t find Iran on the map. BB played Donald like a fiddle.

    Q. for the team - Who signs off on the targetting plan for US missiles/munitions at assigned targets in a foreign country? Presumably it's someone VERY high up in the military and also with approval from the administration (eg the Secretary of War?). Clear video evidence is coming out that it was indeed US Tomahawks that hit the compound containing the Iranian girls school. The main target appears to have been the IRGC Navy buildings a few hundred metres from the school. Too far away to be a stray missile (Tomahawks are invariably incredibly accurate). The school received a direct hit. Turns out the school's building was once part of the IRGC complex but was converted to a school about 8 years ago. That's obvious from satellite images showing colorful playground equipment etc. So was the targetting plan based on outdated intell? Or did Hesgeth think the 7 yr old girls were 2 weeks away from building a nuclear bomb? Those poor girls....

The fact that there are no consequences for, and the Western media brush off, war crimes means there is little incentive to aim carefully. Even to assume it is an accident and not a terror attack.
I'm sure Laura Kneussberg or some similar hack can explain why those children are mere collateral damage and a small price to pay for the greater Israel project.

Not exactly. There are some differences. Unlike Russia in Ukraine, there are no reports of deliberate torture of civilians by electric shocks by the Americans. The most iconic quote from Maximus in Gladiator (2000) regarding his murdered wife is: "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.".
