This is like a look into another world where plastic beach was actually a paradise for the band rather than just for Murdoc and actually being a sad wasteland for everyone else . Great animatic !

I love this so, so much!!! Plastic Beach was my first Gorillaz album. I got it from the library and feel in love with every single track on it. It's not as story heavy or as emotional as the other parts of the album and it's story, but I felt the actual Plastic Beach song was an underrated atmospheric bop. It does my 16-ish year old heart good to see it get a proper music video.
I can tell how much fun you had with this! Everyone feels in-character and there's a lot charm packed into things like Murdoc sunbathing, 2D's goofy little dance, Noodle using her robot double as a power generator and Russel being a set piece. Feels like a nice little epilogue to the music video's storyline!

Your animation warms my heart, you have no idea! I'm not at the best time in my life rn, I was listening to the Plastic Beach radio episodes and they made me feel a bit down. Plastic Beach was originally intended to have more video content than it got but budgetary constraints held that part back…seems getting BRUCE FRICKIN WILLIS in one of your music videos will blow an album’s budget all the way to heck and back! 😅
That said, the title track itself wasn’t originally planned for a video iirc, so this is straight up a whole NEW vid going BEYOND what Damon Alparn and Jamie Hewlett intended, which I for one feel definitely fits in with the whole idea of Gorillaz being given over to the fans eventually, something which Damon has already said he’s thinking of doing at some point.
Judging by the work done by fans like Richard Van As, mariikono and the like, I’d say Damon’s confidence in the fandom keeping Gorillaz alive and well for many ages to come is well placed…we’re now hitting a point where these years between Phase 7 and 8 could well be seen as the time that the fans brought back Phase 3 and finished what Damon and Jamie started back then, making Plastic Beach the full magnum opus it was always meant to be…🥰🥰🥰🥰
