Wow! I've been asking for a sign if it's time for me to step away from my nail chair.. and low and behold this video pops out of YoungNail Land! I wish I lived closer so I could work in your warehouse lol! Thank you Tracy for inspiring and Habib as always! I'm just burned out on the client demands and inhalation of chemicals.. even with a mask on 😷I would love to work in a distribution center! (38 years as a tech )
I like how Tracy created her own lane. I’m a college grad but college isn’t the solution for everybody. This is a testament that everyone can be successful in their own way. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Nobody should give up. She put effort into her dreams. Work hard. No excuses. And marrying young works for a lot of people!! You go girl.
One of the things I love about you guys so much is that you are all so relatable. It makes people like me who are unsure of their next steps, am I doing the right thing, etc, know that it’s ok. Whatever you do, as long as you’re doing what you love and taking the right steps, having the right attitude, it will all work out. And the set backs are just that, a set back, and you learn from it and move on. Whenever I’m in doubt of anything nail related, salon related, career related, you guys have a video for it! Lol. Love your product, your company and what you guys stand for.💕💕
I've been binging this series like crack! It's probably been said so many times so many ways but this is such important information that I have yet to find anywhere. Every other nail channel is focused on showing you how to do nails but not how to do nail business. You could be the most talented tech in the world and be unsuccessful if you don't understand the business side of it so I'm just so grateful for these so I can finally have some answers to my business questions 😃
I wanted to say the same thing.. Tracey is hella inspirational for having the guts to do what she has!!! Tracey is badass and I'm here for that kind of inspiration..
I used to live in Redding back in the day for about 2 years. Then lived in Chico for a good 20 years. Then we moved down to Southern California (Murrieta) and every time we went to Disneyland I would think about you guys knowing you are based in Anaheim. Always great content. Keep up the good work!
I am definitely in the process of finding new things. I love what I'm doing right now, however, I still feel like I want to do different things that I haven't been able to do yet. I think being curious is wonderful because it leads people to new things and experiences. I'm glad Tracy is a go getter and that she's found things that make her happy!!
Yes!! I hear Tracey when she says she gets bored. Nails is a change of career for me. I just got licensed in November and went back for my Teacher’s License in December. Now that is kinda on hold. But I love the nail industry and I eventually want to teach for a brand and travel and inspire others. Love you guys. Stay safe.
I'm in the same mind of tracy. I love to learn and challenge myself to be better. Educating for me is fulfilling. I really enjoyed going from the nail tech to behind the scenes, learning the chemistry of nail products and what's best for the client and easy for the tech to use is fascinating to me. I Love doing shows! I've been watching you tracy lol and I see myself following in your footsteps.
Tracy, thank you for sharing your story !! It's very inspirational 😍. I must also say, your face (even while smiling and laughing) says "I don't take any shit" 😂😂😂😂. I was raised by a woman with a similar face😂😂😂😍. I too stepped away from the spa fulltime after 6 years to become an educator. I knew by my 3rd day of esthetics school that I wanted to be an educator as soon as I felt I knew enough to teach others. By my 6th month of school I knew I could do better than they were doing and would own an esthetics school. Pivot Point (I still love, respect and appreciate every experience I had there) was not treating the esthetics students and department equitably. The huge majority of resources went to cosmetology. I've never regretted stepping away fulltime. I occasionally "kept my hands wet" doing services for a very small clientele and other educators. Education is my siren's song, when it calls, I follow for better or worse 😍😂.
TRACY!! Omg, listening to this & your schooling & being married young.....my jaw dropped. I went to American School (think it was located in Maryland) then 8 was married at 16yrs old. Actually 2 weeks after I turned 16😁😀 still married 2 grown kids..2 grand kids...I live for nails. Never went to cosmetology school....still regret it. Hope you see this
I sold my salon 10 years ago, needed the break. Taught airbrushing for about a year and loved doing that. I'm slowly getting back to doing nails again. Now with Covid-19 it makes me want to have my own business again. I don't think I will own a salon again but when the world opens up again I will try and find a salon to rent space it.
Honestly speaking, I love doing nails. I'm in South Africa and I'm unlicensed. I'm in the township and everyone calls me the expensive lady simply because my nails are not prices like everyone else's, my salon doesn't look like everyone else's. Here's what separates my work from everyone. I am the only one who offers acrylic sculpture and one of the few people who don't use gel polish. I use only acrylics. I'm very far when it comes to art and I invest heavily. Here's why I am considering leaving. My I hardly have clients who do all art. They always settle for the lowest prices. Again I am not busy. I am only busy around pay days. And this is all because people cannot afford me. I can't reduce my prices. I am not making much as it is with nails. I had to add services like lashes and Microblading to make money. I also hired my boyfriend who's getting really good at nails. So I am thinking of going into the laser industry, but my partner will continue doing nails. I have been a booth renter for 3 years and opened my salon this year January the 1st. I started with two employees. Now it's just me and my partner. That halted any ideas of me hiring any extra people. I am not licensed and in South Africa it's not illegal. In fact my sanitation is better than most of the people that went and got licensed. I don't reuse a nail file or sanding band. There's an option to move my businesses to town. But I don't have a car, rent in town is 3 to 4 times my current rent. So it doesn't look like an option.
I love that you have the balls to charge good money. My main thing was doing hair and I was the same way. It really became a source of tension between my biz partner because she charged bargain basement rates and I charges big. My theory was work smarter, not harder. Makes sense!
I am a nail tech in Canada and have fallen for you guys hard during quarantine! I have learned so much from the content you put there so thank you for that. I am looking forward to trying some of your products when I am able to reopen my business. I am wondering if you have any tips for becoming an educator, I have been a tech since 1996 and have a successful business but I need a change!
Would need to contact our Canadian distributors, we have them all listed on our website www.youngnails.com under "resources" - "locate distributor" they handle all education in that region
My dream was to become a professional woman of some sort, doctor, teacher, nurse, teller , anything but a nail technician. My aunt had a little salon while I was in school and I refused to have any part of it, I hated the field. I completed high school, completed my SATs , got accepted to my dream college, started university and was sure I was on my way to my “dream professional status”. Due to some unfortunate circumstances I dropped out of university. While home, unemployed and depressed I hesitantly decided to enroll in cosmetology school to acquire a skill where I could have earned independently. I hated being a nail technician for most of the earlier years but grew to love it eventually. Fast forward 12 years later I have a thriving beauty salon , a state of the art cosmetology school, forged great relationships and memories more valuable than gold and diamonds . I’m happy I “hesitantly “ made that decision.Like you I’m ready to move on form being so active in the salon and rather explore the unlimited potentials of the beauty industry. Our journeys may be different but our drive for success constant. Thank you for sharing and reminding me that I’m on the right path. 👏🙌
I can't work because of Covid-19. I am branding myself and practicing when I'm not exhausted from doing instacart and doing homework. I just accepted a part time job at Chipotle, I start in two weeks. I think I'm gonna go for trying out applying for my career in Geography since I graduate this summer. I am not bringing in any income right now. I know people say to sell press on nails, but I don't have all the time in the world to do that with working instacart and doing homework. I am really overwhelmed and depressed. I am sad, sad I'm not bringing in as much as I use to. This pandemic had really affected my goals and has me scrambling to do something to help out take care of the family and my in laws. I feel guilty not bringing in money to help out my husband. So, taking on side jobs is what helping me during this time. I know I'm not only one struggling, but I don't have a game plan right now. I'm fustrasted. I'm angry. I feel unprepared. I'm sad. Like, when a natural disaster hits I only have labor to barely scrape by.
How do you become a YN distributor? Do you guys have anything you can send with info on that? Do you have classes? We women, once we have a certain age, the fear of being unemployed is too close to reality and distribution of a product you love and believe in, has to be a plus.
Tracy, I want to open up my own salon with a few techs.. I really don't know where to start. I've been a tech for 20 yrs so time to step it up... I'm puzzled though how to do this, how do I pay techs etc. Or the other path, Becoming a teacher.?
Owning a salon you should go in with the mentality that you can maintain it all alone. Then you need to decide are you going to be booth rent or commission, figure out your contract guidelines from there. Finding techs my suggestion would be one at a time rather then bringing on multiple at once.
I literally cannot imagine doing all of those major decisions without telling my husband, we are best friends and partners and anything over $500 we talk to each other about Do yall not talk at home?
We'll we are all benefiting from it and love having Tracy around to teach us, even from afar.
❤️❤️
Hearing Tracy's story gives me a bigger admiration for her as well inspiration, she knows what she wants and she goes for it. ♥
