My friends and I lived through this in the early 80’s. This is all true, not dramatically enhanced at all. I just didn’t know it affected so many Caucasian communities. It totally destroyed Black communities across the country. I now live in the suburbs of Chicago, there are whole towns that look like a bomb went of and destroyed everything, all done by crack addicts, dealers and swat teams. Harvey Illinois, Chicago Heights, Ford Heights, Sauk Village, Robbins....and that’s not even talking about the city of Chicago...these are suburbs that surrounds Chicago. There are places in the city where you can drive for blocks/miles and see nothing but burned up buildings, open lots where houses used to be, anything that made money like a store....gone. Shit...the Ford Heights police station is vacant and spray painted on....the damn police station! County cops patrol there now, once every 2 weeks. These towns are all still open air drug markets to this day.
    1. Gentrification is real.
    2. Damn straight the CIA did this to help fund the contras so they could overthrow their government at the time. Regan wanted to but couldn’t justify an all out war back then, so he helped to rebels. Sad part is, the younger generation doesn’t think all of that is possible, but we were there....and it happened!!! God bless these addicts and current ones as well as we still deal with the fall out from this to the current day!

I don’t think it’s worse at all. Just more media coverage and stupid nonsensical drug laws & mandatory minimum sentences for the lowest common denominator. They should root out the vice squad members taking the kickbacks and allowing certain dealers to operate, but that’ll never happen. Nothing ever changes. As long as people wanna get high there will be dope. And as long as they don’t hurt anyone they should be able to use whatever substance they want. How ridiculous is it for one adult to say to another adult “you can’t eat, drink, smoke or ingest a substance? Fkn retarded

Control is an option if they legalize it all it has worked in other countries. The only other option would be to control it under ground by empowerment of one organization that distributes to all states and get rid of the rest of the organizations through the get down or lay down option. The ladder option would obviously be more problematic but the upside would be that the general public wouldn’t be the wiser that they’re being condoned by the government. Actually damn I think 🤔 the powers that be already chose the second option.

This film never truly addressed why people started doing crack in the first place. What makes a person take their FIRST hit? The drug dealers aren't forcing anyone to use their product; people are going to them to start trying it. Something is pushing people into doing the drugs. Also, even if people don't buy drugs from a dealer, people can mix common household products together to make their own drugs. We need to figure out what makes people want to get high in the first place.

I mean they did & they didn't. They probably warned them to stay away from drugs but kids know their parents are wrong sometimes & they realize that some drugs don't seem all that bad so maybe the "hard" ones also aren't so hard? I think parents should say "I don't know. Perhaps we could look into getting those answers together," more often so their kids don't grow up thinking their parents are stupid or full of shit. Also, they should stop lying in order to protect the kids because everything you say then becomes suspect & no one ever thinks liars have good intentions in the first place.

Sad how the government never seems to care about the people suffering. They care more about arresting as many drug dealers as possible, but forget about the people on drugs. That's why this hasn't ended. The demand is still there even after the dealer is gone. But the opposite isn't true, the supplier doesn't stay when there is no more demand.

Drugs and prostitution are illegal most places because most governments haven't figured out how to tax them adequately to profit from both of them. Period.

Drugs are illegal because, if you watch the video, you'll see they devastate communities and by extention the economy.
