I read it while pursuing ph.d in physics and it just makes you love physics. I understood some of thermodynamics concepts from it .

I actually have Hütte: Des Ingenieurs Taschenbuch, Maschinenbau Teil A. A German Engineer handbook covers Mathematics and scientific basics: math and statistics, physics and chemistry. Another section covers Technological basics: materials, engineering mechanics, technical thermodynamics. The copy I have is written in German (Thankfully I know German 😅) but it’s been translated in Russian, English, French, Spanish, Hungarian and Turkish.

No, no handbooks on computer science or programming. The end of the USSR essentially brought an end to the publication of those books and that happened before the software age.

Once upon a time, when we were teen-age high school goers, Russian books were often considered the Holy Books of Physics and Mathematics. One way of showing off that you were a smart guy was to loudly rattle off legendary Russian author names like Yerodov, Piskunov or Landau/Lifshitz.

There’s gotta be a way to commission the making of a new copy of a rare old book for us personally, it would probably cost a ton but it should be possible and probably is

Thick maths/physics books required people to get into the thick of things- learning was original. These days learning is easy almost every solution to book problems could be googled but that makes learning easy for the moment not for longer- because you have to habitual'lize the problem solving like memorising
learning is easier and harder for that reason. you can learn more much easier in a reasonable amount of time with all our access to information and be forced to build the discipline required to actually learn buit not be cognitively handicapped due to no internet
