    How is hurling not a world wide sport like soccer? This is far better than anything I've seen in a while!

      Hurling is driven by people's love of the game.

      22grena In fairness a chairde, there's been hundreds of clubs set up across the world and the GAA's being trying, but there's only so much you can do when the sport's not professional.
      That's not to say they should, it's a beautiful game and if money comes into it it'll get corrupted like everything else in Ireland where there's money involved.
      If it became Olympic it'd be brilliant but it has to be played in over 100 countries, hurling's only played in about 30.

    • @22grena

      Dáire Mag Shamhráin The GAA had a massive number of children born to Irish parents who left the country, in the UK for instance, and made no effort to introduce them to the game.

      Club hurling is best & while the skill levels are still very low clubs are popping up all over. Even though the USGAA has made it difficult to get help. But there hurling. @@smidirini5678 this. Not sure what Robert Clark is talking about. Try doing a little research before posting so authoritatively. If we haven't surpassed 1000 clubs we're well on our way. • @simgingergirl
      @simgingergirl 9 лет назад +1

      Oisin O Lochlainn Lacrosse is very popular where I live (which is just outside Dallas) as far as participating in the sport. It's not a big spectator sport, but everybody knows about it. My husband played, so I watched a lot of his matches. There were never very many people in the stands. (American) football is just such a huge thing that not a lot of the general population cares about any other sport. Real Texas high school football makes "Friday Night Lights" look like a fairy tea party. It's a stereotype, but it's very true. It's a religious experience -- seriously. Football and Christianity seem to go together as you'll almost always see players praying before games and in the locker room. Lacrosse is very different. It's sort of a posh thing. It's usually only rich kids who play it.

    I go across youtube and all i see is americans mocking foreign sports. All of them, except hurling. Either there are only nice americans here or this sport really is awesome, i'm guessing both, hurling is great! And i love to see how irish people have this passion for their native sports, liam mccarthy cup-game at croke park seems to have as much viewers as f.ex champions league final! Go ireland

    • @stoney7145
      @stoney7145 7 лет назад

      Still hurling is not as widespread in ireland as it should be .The GAA are the governing body and they have gaelic football as well and in theory every GAA club should play both and many do but the majority concentrate on football only with only the southern counties except antrim concentrating on hurling.If croke park was twice as big it would sellout for the sam maguire cup final but not hurling 82000 is as much as will go.However because it is confined to a small area the passion is more intense.There are many americans mocking it

      first of all Colm Callanan kept 2 clean sheets and also made some brilliant saves in that year's championship aswell as in that semi final. Waterford got one all star because they won the league, got to the munster final and then the semi-final. Second of all how much you score doesn't matter when the scores could be shite. Colin Ryan was the top scorer for 2013 and the vast majority of those came from frees, so they could be good scores but it's nothing compared to some of the shit you can get from play.

    Kilkenny won so many All Ireland finals at that point they felt sorry for the Tipperary, Galway and Limerick teams who went on to win sympathy titles to save the intercounty game for the GAA headquarters. Without Kilkenny the championship would never have lasted as long as it has done because for many years the only strongholds of club and county hurling were entirely focused within the province of Munster. • @irishlongswordboland3114
      @irishlongswordboland3114 7 лет назад +2

      christopher hurst Well firstly there not professional they are ordinary men with full time jobs who train and play during their spare time .Secondly helmets were only made compulsory in 2010 so a protocol for the wearing of them has not developed yet.Also these are teams are made up of the best players in each county meaning that they also play for their clubs therefore if they had team colours on the helmet it would mean they would have to buy two helmets which are very expensive.Some of the players namely joe canning makes the sticks for a living which is probably unique in modern sport

    • @timber8403
      @timber8403 7 лет назад

      Christopher Hurst, I agree it does look unprofessional or tacky and it always irks me, I even emailed the GAA on this matter. At inter county level the county should provide the helmets with team colour, to the players , it can't be that much of a financial hit to the GAA to do so...
