Ride or die, to me, is usually the woman in the self-sacrificial position of the relationship who is willing to do anything for her partner, whether immoral, illegal or against her own mental wellness, to show that she is supportive and loyal to her partner. The reason why its such a controversial term, is because men aren't required to show their loyalty to their partners in such extreme ways.

The negative connotation comes from ppl who stayed loyal to bums/abusers or someone that didn’t deserve it. New/potential ppl aren’t responsible for your past relationships or trauma.

We grew up watching these ride or die type of dynamics and generally some people idolize those negative portrayals and seek those type of relationships. Which is why it has a negative connotation. All those things you are looking for can be expressed in other ways opposed to simply saying you want someone whos a ride or die.
Ride or die to me means, a man can do whatever and I as a WOMAN have to stick by him. Illegal shit, cheating, bad investments & he not listen to me when I say “no babe, this is not smart” . Men forget your decisions affects me ! Ride or die is bad and I don’t want it. Rather be single than be someone’s ride or die.
A ride or die to me is not those things. A ride or die has to be built on authentic people firstly that are good intention people. Secondly if a man became ill, unable to work for a given amount of time, overweight, depressed,injured, got cancer,etc. Are you willing to to stick by that man and help him out while he’s down. Do you love him for who truly is on the inside , or do you only love what he can do for you physically, emotionally , and financially? Any of those things can disappear or diminish.
Most men, with sense, do not require "ride or die". The terminology itself tells you that ain't it. Been with my husband since I was 25, about to turn 42 and he's NEVER used that phrase. Like for what?

I'd like to speak on Black women in the gym. If you notice no marginalized group of women tends to be in the gym. I don't want this to sound like excuses but Blk women are often over worked, and too tired.
As for me, it took a team to help me back in the gym. My trainer now works around my schedule and it's beautiful. I also am blessed to have a better career that isn't draining.
I know the gym is wonderful for wellness. I just wanted to share why you don't see us. Other women have different lives.
It's the same as not seeing blk men in country clubs of at Nascar Games. It's usually culturally more difficult to get there. This is no shade it's empathy..
