Questlove's responses are the best.

Quest needs to get Nardwuar booked on the Tonight Show...
Holy shit that’d be so surreal
Nardwuar vs. Jimmy Fallon as well
Brooo that’d be amazing
The interviewer being interviewed... Idk if nardwaur could handle it 😶🤯
No!

This is a clash of the titans of people who LOVE music history. And I loved every damned minute of the interview.
Questlove's expressions are so wonderfully unrehearsed and genuine.
I agree
I've watched this interview numerous times just to hear Questlove's laugh, and the interview's flow.
ben m pas tegen gekomen, en gelijk alle nardwuar intervieuws afgegaan......geweldig
I took screen shots of all the records and that one poster towards the beginning and looking them up and making a Playlist. A lot of great music
@@oscarinacan you mind if you share that playlist to the lazy fucks like me?
Quest is a music encyclopedia and nard manages to shock him. Dont get on nards bad side lmao he will find out everything
😂❤
I love how at only 0:48 seconds he was already shocked by the first "jackpot moment" but ended up being continually surprised throughout the interview
When questlove screams im not gonna cry at 32:39, because of this amazing gift. You can just tell hes beyond shocked speechless and touched by this gift . Its when you really know hes impressed
Thos is 10 years old now. Sometimes I watch this when I'm sad or lonely to remind me what joy and friendship look like.
Fun Fact: In an interview, Questlove recalls watching the Grammy awards with his father as a child. It was the year in which one of the legendary Marsalis brothers did exceptionally well winning in multiple categories. I can't recall who it was but they ended their acceptance speech by saying, "and last but not least, I'd like to thank my father for making me practice playing my instrument for 5 hours a day." Questlove said his dad turned around, looked at him and said, "go downstairs and practice playing the drums." This constant practice his father made him undertake was apparently a little upsetting to a young Questlove because he, and I quote, "sure wanted to watch some (80's sitcom) "Different Strokes." lol.
Compare Nards early interviews with Punk bands and his later hip hop interviews with Pharrel and Quest here and snoop of course. What a difference between the two interviewees and How the hip hop individuals react with such joy and genuine excitement to his crazy references and research and in turn how much they treat him with respect and get into the interview. Compared to the punk guys who treat him like shit and just want to leave. I can't help but think the genre has a big part in that difference. Hip hop being all about searching through the past, through the crate, for old records and old sounds and making them new and your own and it's so self referential, it's like they see what Nards is trying to do and they respect him for it. He's digging through the crates too and it turns into this awesome history lesson.
that's actually a pretty interesting point. i've always been big into hip hop and black music and always took a lot of the focus on history and culture for granted. for these fellas not just the roots, but a lot of the local, esoteric music communities are an essential part their experience, constantly passing down the knowledge and mulling over different ideas, washing across clubs and underground societies, bringing in fresh content. i guess because rock tends to be less about stylistics and familiarity as much as content/the avant-garde, it's ironically a more narcissistic genre than hip hop music. Kanye West is kind of an incorrigible cunt in hip hop, but i wonder if he's just another self-absorbed messianic figure in rock.
I don't think that has anything to do with it. The later indie and punk bands he interviews are more respectful because they know who's interviewing them as opposed to the bands and artists that aren't familiar with Nard's work. Take the indie and punk bands which I specifically mention, you will be pressed to find more pretentious students of music than the guys that spend all their time listening to indie records. Watch his Nirvana interview, Cobain fancies his taste in music very openly and many bands have those same kind of people. They "dig into the crates" too and are kind of stereotyped for being that way. I think it comes down to their personalities and a lot of bands take themselves way too fucking seriously, but I could say the same about some of the rappers Nard has interviewed that try to be tough on camera. The younger guys are much more chill, goes for bands or artists of any genre period
Ian Mackeye was completely respectful
Steam Junky he didn't do da Doot doo doe!
I think a big part of it is that a lot of punk bands, particularly back when punk/pop-punk had become mainstream, were on the back foot in a lot of interviews (especially ones conducted by random independent guys).
I think a lot of punk bands, upon hearing this guy pull up a bunch of older artists, and even the members of said band's older, more obscure work, would immediately jump to the conclusion that the next few questions would be grilling them on not being really punk, or having sold out - which is where a lot of those types of interviews would end up going.
Then there's the fact that a lot of punk bands back in the day didn't want to do interviews in the first place - partially because of what I just said, partially because some seemed to view it as music industry bullshit that their managers talked them into (see: Henry Rollins intimidating that Maximum Rock N' Roll kid and then saying "I think this is selling out. I think doing interviews is selling out").
There's very little stigma in hip hop regarding self-promotion, being successful, and showing genuine enthusiasm for all types of music (not just the /right/ kind of music), so it means a lot of the artists are far more open in interviews.
Now that punk is less mainstream, and it no longer matters what's cool in the scene (because the scene isn't cool anymore) - punk bands tend to be far more chill about that sort of thing.
Nardwuar please make a full-length documentary on your life work. I'm sure Netflix will fund it and everyone will watch!
I would watch the hell out of that documentary. Nard is a living legend.
He not done yet 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Both Nardwaur & Quest Love need to write a book and start a hip hop podcast filled with both new and old hip hop culture filled with live music sets from old and new artists, interviews in and out of studio, even do live interviews & a show in different cities. Like the jimmy Fallon show but with these two guys and others.
PS
Questlove in studio like Jimmy Fallon and Nardwaur out on assignment.
Simeon Costa this is absolutely the greatest idea I've ever heard.
Replace Jimmy with Nard...simple solution. No one would miss that bs fake laughing buffoon.
It takes a MAN to say “you taught me something I didn’t know thank you” especially when he’s bringing up stuff in your culture like a lot of these dudes are embarrassed to say they don’t know something but he uses it to be better
When you think you love music, Nard & Quest walk in to let you know you're a bit of a poser.
A bit? It feels like the only song I ever heard was happy birthday. These dudes could fill a library each.
Questlove is so humble
and he is in the house
@@ricardosousa4058 quest love you are not in the house
I love him
i'd like to know that much about anything
just do your own research...
@@boogiedownbronx73 where do i even start
@@AyaDaBerry just find what you r personally interested in and find books
@@AyaDaBerry literally just go start spam googling every combination of searches u can think of, related to your interests of choice - anything even tangentially related! then, pull up a history of all the things you just searched, and re-search em all on youtube. you've now just manipulated these websites into recommending a lot more shit related to those things
@@gevu please don't take this guys advice. this is the worst method of research i've ever heard.
for the op, the method depends on the topic. google is a good start once you're done brainstorming, and you'd be surprised how many experts will respond to even the most basic questions. just remember to always consider the source and to do your own fact checking.
I love how Nardwuar skips the compliments and moves on to the next question 😅
Best Nardwuar quote, "I live to give joy"
How am I just now discovering Nardwuar? This is the coolest thing I've found during quarantine! Bet none if you expected a comment like this 2 years ago.
I need to see a 2023 interview, this was so good
I feel like I could listen to these 2 talk forever. They need a podcast. These are two incredible music historians I love. Even if I only know half the references I love it.
I may only understand 30% of the references bc they are encyclopedic in their knowledge, but I’d listen to every ep of that podcast.
amazing interview. i love listening to people who are so passionate about the history of their craft. honestly i would completely support a podcast of questlove just chatting about the history of philly hip hop. such an interesting and intelligent dude.
This is my favorite Nardwuar interview. It was amazing how ?uest and Nard bounced off each other.
cured my depression and my bronchitis
Chameleonardodavinci lol
Cured my strep throat
congratulatons ;)
i love how the roots are on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. it makes the show so much better. i love jimmy and the roots
So I scroll down deep into the comments section while I’m super enjoying the soundbeat of this interview and watching it with one eye not to miss a damm thing, before I did something I never ever ever done before... I at the end scrolled back up with full speed with love and exciting fingers to deservedly click on the “LIKE ICON” and felt happy and satisfied after, so even took the time to tell you all about this, because I know you feel me. Damm Nardwuar... you are cool dude and deserve to teach all of us about free love”
Isn't this seriously one of the most beautiful moments in history? Like I'm not even being sarcastic at all.. this is seriously iconic.
People with as much passion as Questlove are so entertaining! Love this stuff!
Nardwuar could be a famous rapper with all the street and music cred he has from his interviews over the years.
He’s a legend for sure.
I watch this interview at least once a month. So amazing, best Nardwuar interview, hands down.
Nardwuar is Canadian Royalty and one of the most transparently refreshing human beings I’ve ever met. I feel so grateful to have spent some time with you during a challenging period in both of our lives. You are the real deal, I love what you represent and deserve a CAE (Canadian Award of Excellence) AND a star on Hollywood blvd.
17:36 let me get someone the way Questlove looks at the record
You are the best interviewer to ever do it
I've met him before. I was his bellman in San Diego years back. Maybe '06. He's a cool dude. We talked about Cody Chestnutt and this show of his I saw in Dallas at the Gypsy Tearoom. He tips well.
Cody is the man.
I just learned so much hip/hop history from this single interview, incredible stuff
Amazing interview. Thanks for the reupload.
Nardwaur took this man on an emotional Rollercoaster ride.
I have binged your videos lately and the interviews with Quest are my favorite. He knows so much about music and appreciates it so much. His reactions are priceless
the way his eyes widen at 17:13 is priceless
He ended up winning an academy award, using that magazine
This is one of the best videos on the internet.
There is NO BETTER SERVIETTE, than the one I’m watching
Possibly the best Nard interview ever. These two dudes may know more shit about contemporary music than any other two people on earth lol.
Has anyone ever cried watching this ,,, this is the best interview I have ever seen
His laugh makes me smile.
Chill guy. These are the best interviews of Nardwuar's, people happy and enjoying talking about their favorites.
The guy behind the camera must have a strong arm i mean 45 minutes...
They got camera stands
calohtar but the camera moves alot

I'd hold it forever if it meant I could be in the presence of these two humble and enthusiastic true music lovers.
Serio, Man. Shout Out To The Filmer Though
This is such a wonderful interview. Really appreciate Quest & Nardwuar’s skill is just… unmatched.
Such a great guy, thanks for the longer video!
Thanks for giving this Jersey boy a history lesson on the origins of Da Ha! I was in 6th grade when this came out and the melody has never left me. Never knew about Rappin' Duke!
Loved this interview so much. Quest is so gracious. Love it!!!
this interview is absolutely amazing; youre like an artist whisperer if such a thing exists ahaha
How can you not like this?
This is still by far one of my favorite Nardwuar interviews
Pretty sure that ?uestlove's laugh can cure cancer. :)

Nardwuar is the James Lipton of music interviewing!
Such a great interview!
I love how this interview is basically Nardwuar asking Questlove to tell him about the record he hands to him lmao
Definitely the best Nardwuar interview Questlove’s reactions are priceless.
Quest is a historian of music and must be protected
Wtg nardwuar... You got Questlove to mist up and made snoops voice crack

Wow! This is the beginning of the NEW AGE, I always wondered where that break occurred...
his reactions are priceless
I just realized after watching dozens of his interviews: there are no commercials on NardWards interviews!
How does he make a profit to buy all this stuff?
He's a radio host, also his interviews in the past would get play on much music in Canada.
Binge watching Nardwuar in the pandemic era . Thank you Nard and Quest
lol this is by far the most satisfying Nardwuar interview.
I like old Motown and R & B. not so much hiphop/rap. But i watched this entire interview. I love seeing the rappers' reactions. Makes me smile. Plus, QL has the greatest laugh ever.
i was thinking the entire time how can u surprise questlove, the man is a living encyclopedia in his land but damn nardwuar game strong af
i love this kind of good energy from both - nardwuar and questlove. and i love how nardwuar loves to bring joy to people :D
Questlove, Roots always are my favorite of Nardwuar's interviews. Questlove and Nard are the fountains
of knowledge, feels like they both play off each other's excitement.
Nardwuar is a National Treasure my friend.
17:10 questlove’s reaction was amazing 😂
best interview ever
It makes me happy that Nardwuar make Questlove happy, if he just gives this stuff away, I love that it goes to whom it matters most. What a guy.
the combination of thrill and exasperation in questlove's voice each time narduwar hands him another record that as a consummate historian he is compelled to expound upon just *has* to be what it looks like when someone throws rice on the ground in front of a vampire
Nardwuar: 'Here is a record. '
Questlove: 'It was the best of times... and the worst of times...'
Fantastic interview!!
When a walking encyclopedia meets a walking music almanac. This interview specifically is what got me hooked like a hungry fish
Jamming on the one, I remember that Cosby episode.
one of the best interviews.
Lots of opinions on Nardwuar as a character, and for his questions
Nobody talking bout what a good listener he is.

There's a man who appreciates the moment!!
I hate when you do this, I love when you do this
Hands down.The Best Nardwaur Interview.
Never get tired of watching this
I can imagine the MC Breeze record, although banned in Phila, is quite available in Canada. Probably at Zulu or someplace of that ilk. Kudos to Nardwuar. I had forgotten about this guy and am so happy he is still killing it.
Questlove is probably the most entertaining guest Nardwuar has interviewed so far
I love questlove’s facial expressions to the camera when nardwuar goes to pick up another album:)
