    What an excellent intro to lap steel and C6. I've played standard guitar for 40+ years and recently became curious about lap steel. This was an easy-to-understand lesson, thanks, I'll continue watching/liking/subscribing.

    Hey Troy, can you show us what your reverb and delay pedals look like in a separate video? I'm having a hard time getting a good lap steel sound from my Guyatone C6 Lap Steel with my Guitar Zoom 505 effects pedal. I probably need a volume pedal too. Thanks.

    Hello Troy! I am very excited about your lesson. Very thorough and "stick to the point." Many here on RUclips are flying around between many things and breaking all the time out of what the lesson is all about, when they just remember something that not nessesarely fit to the lesson!! I like your way mutch better!!! I want to ask you "what is the most common string height for a lap steel guitar" (To the "frettboard", or the nut hight)? Thank you for passin your knowledge on! Cheers

    Thanks for your video. It is very instructive. I am browsing to learn playing new musical instruments and lap steel guitar has currently attracted my attention. I like both blues and C&W and I understand these styles use different tuning on lap steel. Is it thus possible with the same set of strings to play both styles (subsequently)? Which tuning do you recommend? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Daniel.

    Hey Troy! I wanted to purchase part 1 and 2 of your first C6 Lap Steel Lessons, but I could not find anywhere on your website how long the lessons are. I want to know so that I can determine if the lessons are worth the price (which I'd imagine they are). I'm sure other customers would want to know as well.
    I've watched a lot of your demo videos on RUclips and I am a big fan. You make everything really clear. Thanks!

    Hi Troy... Why do you have that "square" piece of leather (?) or rubber (?) on many of your video's, under where your picking? Is that to protect the surface of whatever steel that you're playing, or some other reason ?

    Troy, I assume this is an old question for you. But would you please discuss your choice of your bar? I have gone back and forth from the traditional round bar, to the larger type you use. Why do you use that type? Is it more difficult to do slants? Is it a better grip issue? What brand is the bar? Thank you

    • @Niven42

      The best one in my opinion is the Dunlop Lap Dawg. That's the bar that really made things come together for me.

    • @Niven42
      @Niven42 2 года назад

      A Rogue isn't a bad beginner lap steel. And if you don't want to put a lot of money into something better like a Duesenberg or a Wiessenborn, the Rogue can be upgraded with a humbucker pickup to get better tone.

  • @garyharris1932
    @garyharris1932 10 лет назад

    You have the frets numbered however you're placing the bar between the frets. Cindy Cashdollar does the same thing and she believes this the correct way to place the bar. My old teacher Mary Smith taught me differently. I guess if it works for you then why not.
    Jerry Byrd used the C6 tuning and would defend his claim that he was the first to do so.

    • @LessonsWithTroy
      @LessonsWithTroy  10 лет назад +2

      It's an optical illusion. For great intonation you play in tune by have the bar directly over the fret.

    • @johndrum6613
      @johndrum6613 6 лет назад

      Mate. I own a Duesenberg Fairytale. Immaculate sound. You must decide the type of tuning for you. Each tuning (D...G...E.....C6) all have different string sets to achieve the tuning and that works the same for every lap steel made by all makers. Check Morrell in Ebay or website. C6 Tuning (this one here) is usually 15 to 36. There should be a product sign on the package to identify the tuning of the string set.
