I like how you describe the look of nocturna being similar to Wednesday addams, and in the same show, Christina Ricci voiced catwoman it's quite fun noticing small details in the show and behind the scenes
I like how the scene of Bruce getting beaten up by the circus performers is a result of his own social ineptitude, like he could’ve very easily explained the situation with all of the kids going missing, but it’s clear when he’s frustrated and unfocused, it’s evident his time as Batman has kind of screwed over his ability to act as a person when he’s not in the billionaire playboy persona.
I often decide not to say things that I think are too obvious, thinking that everyone already knows about it, so what's the point in bringing it up. And I always end up regretting it...
My theory about the Robins: Since Caped Crusader has a noir horror tone it, I could see these Robins showing up in future episodes, now inspired by Batman and acting a group of junior detectives who investigate small mysteries and ocasionally help Batman, providing him with informations about what's going on the streets of Gotham (kind like the Newsboy Legion from My Adventures with Superman).
That would be cool. I'm frankly tired of people complaining about Batman "taking up children and giving them a cape and making them fight crime" as if Batman's some kind of predator... While a few versions of Batman did deliberately try to make soldiers out of kids, most of them were just trying to help in their own way...and our modernist interpretation of that shouldn't change what Bruce's intent was as it's not one of those "Product of the times" cases where someone does something wrong that was seen as okay back then, but isn't now. Still if they did want to better modernize the story, your idea would fit perfectly. Letting the Robins join Bruce on thier own will like Tracy did in Batman Beyond. Not just acting like children need some kind of barrier from ANYTHING until they turn 18 and are thrown into the streets. As the episode was alluding to, more people are unjustly attacked trying to help kids by being accused of perversion, ironically leading to more children suffering because of the baseless assumptions.
@@MarioMastar This whole idea of Batman being some predador of kids is a huge misconception. The whole point of Bruce taking Robin bc he understand their pain and knows that, without guidence, those kdis just become like him, obsessive with vengence, which could result in them being reckless and getting killed or worse become villains like his rogues gallery. Robin Reckoning even shows that Dick Grayson run away from Wayne manor and went after Zucco on his own and almost got himself killed if wasn't for Batman. In this scenario, Bruce need to act as mentor, giving the kids the abilities to defend themselves, as well morals and father figure they can look up to so they don't become emotionally traumatized like him nor end up like Jason. Besides is not like the comics treated Batman training kids like 100% good thing, with characters like Leslie even calling out this decision and Batman even questioning if he's right by exposing these kids to this world of mobsters and psychopats.
To be perfectly honest with you, I like the first one with her looking like she’s going to eat that child It kind of reminds me of Saturn Devouring His Son from artist Francisco Goya
The little detail of Carrie grabbing on to Batman's cape as they walk into the sunrise legitimately brought a tear to my eye. I think that's one angle for the Bruce Wayne/Batman character that gets overlooked sometimes (but Bruce Timm seems to like doing it), is that Batman struggles to interact with adults in a mature manner, but he does truly love and connect with children. As Bruce Wayne he's cavalier and distant with other adults, and as Batman he's cold and distant. But with kids, he feels like he can be warm and empathetic in both of his alter egos. I guess that's because of the fact that in spite of his genius intellect and years of brutal experience, emotionally he's still a scared little boy who just witnessed his parents' murder. He struggles to empathize with and understand adult life and experience, but innately grasps a child's perspective; because, it a very real way, he's still a child, stunted and prevented from ever truly growing up by his trauma.
Okay, but that makes the quote from JLU even more heartbreaking: Wonder Woman, "I don't know, I thought it was kind of fun, getting to be a kid again." Batman: "I haven't been a kid since I was eight."
@@burnslee1164 Yeah. Bruce think's that's the moment he was forced to be an adult, but what 8-year-old knows what being an adult even means, let alone how to be one? In reality, it's the moment where his emotional development got stunted. Part of the tragedy of Batman is that because he was emotionally stunted as a traumatized 8-year-old, he lacks the self-awareness to know that this is the case. At least until he interacts with kids, then (maybe subconciously) he finally feels free to actually be himself, not the hardened crimefighter that he feels that he needs to be.
I like a more sympatic Killer Croc, and I don't think this version of batman would leave her to the sun. It has it right, a batman who wouldn't sit with Ace or cover Natalia from the dawn is just the punisher with a bat theme
I just wonder how he might've reacted had he met her earlier in his career, back before he started to experience emotions again. Note how he didn't seem at all phased about all those mobsters that got blown up in Thorne's factory at the start of the first episode. Granted, he didn't know the explosion was coming, so it's not the same situation, but DCAU Batman would've been outraged at all the senseless killing.
Same, especially after hearing his backstory and seeing BTAS's episode where he joins the carnival and just...steals from them because he's trying to run away from the police. I really dislike how that ended with him just claiming "I've always been a criminal and a thief, I thought this place would accept that." like the man was Born a monster. BTAS often did a good job of making thier villains dark but sympathetic in their own way, or making it clear that their acts of villainy were their own fault due to hubris or whatever have you, but to make an episode that looks like it's going to be a redemption for a disfigured villain, only to 180 and go "No, he's just a terrible person" (especially as a victim of racism in his childhood according to the original comics) just really rubbed the wrong way... it's kind of like saying that "Big grotesque looking black man who got bullied by racists as a kid chose to be a criminal and isn't worth sympathy." or like when the comics version of Bane had him be a victim of Genocide only to become a super villain as the result of the genocide like "Forgive ME for having some militia come and destroy my home country, imprison me and torture me. I guess I"M the bad guy." Something BTAS fixed by making his backstory ambiguous and giving him a more charming demeanor so that it was clearer HE chose to be a villain on his own accord (for the power of the juice) and isn't just a bad guy because he looks big and brutish and thus kids would easily identify him as a monster.
@MarioMastar Dude not everyone can be sympathetic. Joker was not sympathetic but you do not see anyone complaining I would have liked a more sympathetic Croc but the episode does have a message. The performers had each other 4 support and love but Croc had no one in his life to love him. By this point he was so used to being a monster that the thought of trying to be good never enter his mind. He did sound regretful near the end perhaps implying a slight self loathing 4 himself.
Controversial take, I think Natalia Should of died, would of made the Episode much darker, like how is she going to Rehabilitated?? She will just become Alma & go on another killing spree batman doomed everyone.
I love the way the carnival freaks were portrayed in this episode. In other media there would be seen as something to gawk at but here there are portrayed as being human beings and good natured people which is what people with deformaties are. Waylon in particular has always been portrayed as being a tragic character, his mother died during childbirth and his cruel aunt raised him add his skin condition and you have a very volatile but tragic villan.
I liked that a lot too, a lot of carnies back in the day were a found family situation since society shunned them at every opportunity, sadly when freak shows and exhibits went out of fashion these people had nowhere to go
So can we just all agree that Batman let the carnival guys beat him up? After all fighting back would just make him look more guilty and he doesn’t wanna hurt innocent civilians. Don’t get me wrong I don’t know if Batman would be able to even take on that many people at once, especially without his equipment in this universe, but the fact that he never even tries throwing a punch from what I can remember, really implies that he understands that the carnival crew was just trying to do the right thing as they misunderstood the situation
Given the unfortunate circumstances, I think the authors included that scene deliberately to make a point about predator accusers and how quick they are to jump to violent conclusions. It might be a tongue in cheek reference to the infamous Pizzagate case where a rabid person shot up a restaurant because he believed they were filming underage porn in the basement....and the building didn't have a basement.... it was a hoax, yet several people died unnecessarily. That vigilantism ironically is leading to even more children being in hostile situations because if they try to speak out about a suspicion, people react super strongly to the incident and feel they have to attack someone for it, USUALLY the child for even being in the position in the first place (see all the people demanding that anyone under 18 be banned from various sites simply because they don't want them to look at all the porn they keep sharing and thus attack any account that is underage as if they're being the heroes). Bats may have let them beat him up, but the message is very clear, given we know Batman was trying to save a life, and they still jumped to that conclusion, it says more about them and how they handle children. Especially since their attack almost lead to a fourth child "going missing".
“Boo! How dare Batman let those orphans develop naturally? He should throw a yellow cape on them.” Jokes aside, as much as I love the concept of Robin, and I think it works with Batman thematically, I think for the specific story they were going for here. It’s best to just have the orphans be references to the Robins. At least for the time being.
I’m right there with you. In my personal opinion not every universe needs a robin. Sometimes it’s perfectly fine to just let these kids enjoy their childhood.
Hey Batman, why the bright bat logo on your chest? B: oh, well that's there to draw the gunmans attention so he shoots the armored part of my suit. Ah, and why are your sidekicks all dressed in bright colors while patrolling at night? B: same idea.... less bruising for me.
I hope season 2 brings Natalia back replacing Becky Albright on an adaptation of Mistress of Fear. It’d be the perfect next step for her character. Humor me: Scarecrow is a doctor in the hospital Natalia is in. He treats her and encourages her hunger essentially mentoring her to become the fearful Nocturna. At first glance she seems to relish in all her power and cruelty but we see that she has a lot of guilt for what she did to Anton and Batman’s kindness toward her did not go unnoticed. Between this tug of war between Scarecrow and Batman for Natalia’s soul, the Robin kids can come back (as kids not sidekick heroes) and tip the balance in Batman’s favor. Coming to terms, forgiving and maybe trying to become friends with Natalia.
@@MikeyPartIIGood question It could work in a number of ways. 1) The kids could hear in the news or overhear Batman talking to Leslie and decide to help out. 2) Scarecrow could kidnap them to try and encourage Natalia to take vengeance on the kids. 3) Natalia could actively seek one or all of them behind Scarecrow’s back due to feeling guilty over what she’s done.
I like how all the kids Nocturna targeted were all references to the Robins. While I doubt we're getting a Robin in this show, it's a cool easter egg! Also something I noticed while watching is that, one of the orphan children (a little girl with black hair) appears to be one of the children that Batman was rescuing in the Firebug episode, implying her parents died in that fire, which is pretty dark but also a cool detail! (You can fact check me on this because I might be wrong and just mixing up their appearances).
There is one thing about Batman so many seem to forget. Batman draws lots of its background from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. From the obvious reference of Arkham Asylum, to the most obscure Lovecraft reference of Mr. Freeze (look up the story Cool Air).
Even though it's a nice cameo, I would like to see more of Waylon. But not as a villain. Maybe in a future episode he could be framed for a crime and Batman is trying to prove he is innocent.
Speaking of Carrie's parents, I think it would've been cool if Carrie in TDKR was related to Yindel, specifically as an aunt and Carrie's parental guardian after her parents were killed in a fight between Batman and either a villain or some random gangsters where Batman was only able to save Carrie. This would of course lead to Carrie's hero worship of the Batman and contrastingly lead to Yindel's hatred of the Batman.
The dopamine rush I got while watching this episode was so awesome getting to see all these character appearing from well know ones likes Jason and Dick to lesser known ones like Julie. I truly felt like that leonardo meme were he points at the TV.
Yeah, the second she told Batman that he has so much energy I was like "oh carp" The second she slammed his head into a tree (repeatedly) I was like "Oh $#!+" I also laughed when Carrie hit her in the head with the rock. (reminded me of BTAS' Killer Croc for "some reason") When the oddity group started beating up Bruce, I was like "I would hate them more if they didn't do this..." and then "I'm guessing they've encountered something similar before." BWF
Batman has no problem with killing Dracula because he's "beyond human". So, he pounced on the vampire as he turned into dust, with only his skull left. That's from Batman 2004.
Despite my enjoyment of CC version of Nocturna, I have bit of soft spot for the pre-crisis femme fatale version. I always felt her rivalry with Catwoman was interesting and work to show Batman facing his own hipocrisy, how he spend most of his stories wanting to reform Catwoman, saying they couldn't be together as long they were in opposite sides of the law, only to stop given attention the moment she decide to reform, chaging focus to another thief (almost like he only give attention to people when they seem to have something to fix).
Sadly relative to the times... ther'es a LOT of 15-17 year olds who think because they're a minor, they can scream anytime an adult goes near them and get them in trouble or be immune to the law.... but from what I've seen, most child predator arrests have been the kids because they often provoke the attacks. Or people who think violence is okay as long as it's not sexual. I think that's the point this episode was trying to make with the scene of the carnies beating up Batman while one of thier costars was literally sucking the souls of children under thier noses.
Do you think there was any intentional symbolism to the use of a carnival for the setting of this episode? For example, carnivals are traditionally spaces of illusion, where appearances can be deceiving. They can create a façade of joy and entertainment while hiding darker elements beneath the surface. In the context of Nocturna's storyline, the carnival setting reflects how Natalia and Anton present themselves to the world: as entertainers who provide fun and excitement, while simultaneously concealing their predatory and exploitative behavior. This duality speaks to the broader theme of how individuals can hide their true intentions behind a veneer of charm and entertainment.
Can’t wait to see on how you handle two-face, and how he managed to go out like a hero in the end. Farewell dent, you were the best version I’ve seen, well second best, we know that the original animated series’ depiction is probably one of the best
Really liked the original Nocturna. She genuinly loved Jason and was the best mother he ever had. If she was around maybe he would never searched for his real mother....
Glad i wasnt the only one that thought Nocturna looked alot like Wednesday Adams. This ep really did show that Batman was opening to others and being kind to them. Having all the kids being the Robins was really cool, also i didnt even know that was Killer Croc. The amount of details in the show is crazy
This just made me think of an idea, let Warner Brothers make an animated movie using Nocturna, tell the story about bruce becoming a vampire, except as an elseworlds film. Direct to video, nost likely blue ray, but wonder who they would use as Batman this time, use either the actor from Batman Caped Crusader, or the Actor who voiced him from Batman the Doom that Came to Gotham.
I prefer this version, where instead of pulling these kids into his cycle of trauma, he instead insures their happiness by doing something that also makes Bruce Wayne look good… charity.
She is more an addict than a monster, really. The way they present Natalia here plants some seeds for potential redemption. “Monster” is the word I’d use to refer to other villains on this show such as Gentleman Ghost, Penguin or Clayface.
considering this version of batman is very early in his career, it's not impossible that these orphans could grow up to become robin in say, 10-20 years? depending on how old they are and how long this batman is active
5:30 I would like to point out that Bruce never made the children become Robin. In fact, it was the children who made the choice themselves, and Bruce had taken many steps in removing them from that life. However, once realizing that they would fight crime regardless of what he does, he decides that training them and patrolling with them is a much healthier way of dealing with this (in a fiction setting).

My guess is if Robin does become a thing that it'll be Tim Drake as opposed to Richard Grasyon who becomes the first robin and later after (assuming if Raz al Ghul shows up) Tim gets older and becomes Nightwing, we'll see Damian as the replacement Robin.
I had looked up forgotten supervillains & superheroes in the past by Mr. Rogues, and Noctuna is a forgotten Batman villain along with Dr. Death, The Red Skull, Anthoney Lupas/ The Werewolf, The Mime, The Eraser, Crash and Burn, The Killer Doll, Polka Dot Man, The Rat Catcher, etc.
Natalia was definitely one of the better villains from Caped Crusader. She was cruel and selfish but she did have one redeeming quality: the love for her brother. A nice contrast to killer Croc and the rest of the performers. They may look like monsters, but unlike Natalia they do not act like monsters. They only attacked Bruce because they thought he was a child molester which is understandable.
I don't even think Natalia has that she essentially killed him, I find It weird how she starts crying based On a stranger telling her he died, she didn't care when she pushed a bookshelf on him leaving him there with a injury, her character isn't consistent.
@@tayojones9460 She was apathetic to him being Trapped under a bookshelf & taking lives of kids, she shouldn't Of cried at all she knew what she was doing, or it's just badly explained Why she is absorbing other kids.
So I wonder why they didn’t use Mad Monk in the 90’s series as he too is a vampire and I wonder why they never used him more often because remember I said about alternative Justice League as monsters were the Batman equivalent is a vampire called the Bat King. But saying that they couldn’t use vampire in the DCAU they brought in a werewolf I was wondering when Killer Croc was going to appear but I thought would be like the Arkham knight and 2004 series where he has tail Remember what Bruce Timm said about not having enough female villains which is about bull and hypocritical as he along with probably DC editorial that they think that like in the Poison Ivy last Friday that she was a misunderstood person even though that’s not the case. For the video on Two Face remember about what I said about other versions that Harvey Dent was probably already was a bad person before getting disfigured like in the Earth one, Gotham by Gaslight, Beware the Batman and Telltale if you choose to save him he is still an a-hole
Nocturna is very vicious especially after she crippled her brother and saying coldly "who's the baby now ?" Btw she's pretty But on the other hand she suffer herself and sucking the energy of childrens is the only way to being still alive. Sometimes desperate situations can turn into understandable ones. Under his stoic facade Batman is altruistic with his opponents. The end of that episode is so dark when Harvey after he don't defended the guy Thorne paid him to avoid the jail case received acid thanks to that crawling thug.
Hold on, Nocturna's hair highlight is bat-shaped during her fight with batman It's most notable here 8:09 & here 8:20-- but if that's intentional, that is an absolutely insane design easter egg
I like that Natalia drained people energy rather than blood, much like Morbius in Spider Man Animated series, drained people's plasma through his hands. This details helps to show how these character aren't typical vampires, they are beings created by science not supernatural, so they should operate different;
In contrast to the batman versus dracula movie Where It was made clear that this is a blatantly supernatural creature that drinks the blood of the living His victims could be saved, but the count himself had to be put back where he belongs, in the ground All three are fun
One more thing Nocturna was to use his rejected design◊ from The Animated Series with a storyline (inspired by the Bloofer Lady) of her being a wealthy donor to the Gotham Orphanage who used her access to prey upon its children. However, the writers room couldn’t make the story work until someone suggested turning Nocturna into a child herself. While he briefly lamented having to let go of his design again, Timm admitted it was a more interesting idea. Tp be honest some part of me i feel one writer change because is sound some what pedo ish. I don’t Why i think reason Why it was change it because whole is sound to pedo. But that just me.
@alongatedmanforever1252 Vampiric and scary children are not new concepts if people can find it their hearts to find some sympathy for adult characters like Clayface in some aspects-who also suffers from a condition that affects his quality of life I don’t see how one can’t for a child. She didn’t kill anyone, and the one time she did was manslaughter of her brother which she clearly shows remorse for. I don’t see any harm of finding her story sad, she’s a child with a child’s temperament and impulse control combine that with super strength that and you have a recipe for disaster and tragedy!
@@gravityfails4628 The issue is Natalia wasn't tragic I think That's the fault of the story being written we barely see a reason of why she has to absorb energy, she also is seen being Cruel & taking advantage of kids with malicious intent, even thought of "keeping them from waking up" I don't think she has a temperament she is just pure evil.
@elongatedmanforever1252 I think you misunderstand me I’m specifically referring to her attempt to take her own life, after she found out she lost her brother. As someone who lost a friend to suicide I find that deeply troubling regardless of a character’s actions. It also ties into her sun averse condition. True we don’t know a whole lot about the circumstances around her energy absorption but until she can be treated she can’t live a normal life regardless without being incinerated when exposed to the sun’s harsh rays.
I really hope they don't use Robin in this show. But, if they have to give Batman more close allies, I would prefer if it were more obscure characters. I have a few comics where instead of Robin, Batman has an African American boy in a yellow suit (I don't remember his name). There was also this mute surgeon who used to treat Batman's wounds. And maybe, instead of Barbara they could have Cassandra Cain be Batgirl.
Honestly they could maybe eventually get to plastic man's origin as a reformed member of Kitemans crew. Obviously with a less goody version of the charactee
@@sachanadeau5444 When did O'Brian become a criminal in this show? We already met him. He is a photographer. And he seems to like his job. Also, Kiteman seems too "campy" for this show.
I was initially a bit disappointed they we weren't getting a proper vampire femme fatale (particularly as I wasn't a fan of how the Batwoman series handled her) but I think the final version ended up with a really cool vibe.
You say the Robins are all orphans in the comics, but Steph Brown… wasn’t? At least not usually, pretty sure her parents are both alive (Arthur of course is trash, and Crystal depends on the continuity…) Does anyone actually dislike the Ace vibes of Nocturna, here? Haven’t yet seen it anywhere…
I know Cluemaster was dead at one point in the comics, and I think her mother had died as well? Although in the comics people go from being dead to being alive again all the time.
I feel the Noctura episode for me is the one I feel the series did well emphasizing Batman does not enjoy punishing children as villains. However I wished there was more in my opinion. But hey at least it's better than Comic Noctura. As for Noctura I enjoyed her being a expy of Wednesday Adams. In my opinion I feel Noctura being an unnatural supernatural being was interesting and adapted her age to that of a child. That means that Nocutura would be harder for Batman to deal with like given in comics Batman does not want to hurt children. I think that's one of his biggest weaknesses. However I wished we had more insight on Anton her brother and her bond more. I do feel pity for both but I couldn't completly sympathise for her. It's because the Harvey Dent storyline was used in the story I felt it overshadowed the Noctura plotline. As a result I feel Noctura was a good Batman villainess and its better than being a vampire. But I feel her episode could've done more with her. And I wished we saw her fate in the final episode Also the Robins deserve better.
( 7:18 ) if Killer Croc becomes a villain in season two (if he shows up) he’ll probably become one for one of two reasons. 1. Is tired of being treated like a freak. Or 2. Something bad happens to his circus family, and as a result, lashes out in anger and grief.
I wonder which villain is going to be covered in the video on episode 10. Penguin, Clayface, Catwoman, Firebug, Harley Quinn and Gentleman Ghost were the villains of episodes 1 to 6; Onomatopeia, Deadshot and Corrigan were the villains of episode 7; and Nocturna and Two Face were fought in episodes 8 and 9 respectively. However, who is the villain of episode 10 ? Bullock ? Thorn ? Flass ? All three of them ? Honestly, I hope it's Flass. He's the only member of the trio whom I didn't know before this show, so I discovered him thanks to Caped Crusader and I think that his design is kinda cool.
I do wish that they had reused Bruce Tim's original design but I think what we got is 10x more better. Seeing how it further Progress Batman to become more compassionate
We don't know much of Nocturna's backstory in the show, so we can only guess (Not defending her actions, just theorizing) My theory is that since her older brother is her guardian, is slightly responsible for her turning out, he doesn't care about her hurting kids he just doesn't wanna get caught, he is in a scam business and either they are desperate and have no choice- OR they are just shady bad people, i believe Nocturna is 14 and that isn't a good upbringing to have your out of control vampire little sister have- i know there are no like- "vampire caretakers"/anyone that would understand her and not hurt her, but he should of worked towards a more good life than scamming for Nocturna and himself, i don't know what situation they are in as this is maybe their only option, but he should of been a better role model, idk how many years and if he took care of Nocturna since she was born or has taken care of her for a awhile, but even though he cares for her, he enables and doesn't put up a gold example, i know Nocturna needs energy and there is currently no other opinion for her, but he allows her to harm kids which basically shows how...morally gray he is, another factor is their parents, there is a chance their parents disowned Nocturna for her uncontrollable condition and her brother defended her and the 2 ran away- or their parents died, but clearly her brother has taken care of her for awhile, and isn't the best infulence in my extremely non professional and probably stupid opinion, as i am just yapping and theorizing on Nocturna's upbringing and how it possibly affected her, it seems to be a very difficult morally gray situation the 2 had i feel like-
These Are The Top 15 Villains I Want To See In Caped Crusader Season Two 1)Joker 2)Scarecrow 3)Mr. Freeze 4)Black Mask 5)Hugo Strange 6)Mad Hatter 7)Dr. Death 8)Solomon Grundy 9)Killer Croc 10)Man Bat 11)Deadshot 12)Professor Pyg 13)Riddler 14)Victor Zsasz 15)Clock King
I never heard of this villian prior to Caped Crusader but not only am I glad she wasn't what Bruce Timm was going to try to reuse, but also making her such a total creep she was here because of that unfamiliarity with her history. Though I must admit, it is a shame that the original variant of her never was brought back after the Crisis and Flashpoint. Lord knows I'm one that would've loved to see Batman paired up with someone that ISN'T Selena for once. It's why i was glad to see that Mary Jane was hooked up with someone that wasn't Peter in one of the more recent Spiderman comic runs compared to the majority of people that were whining about it.
@@aidanhever3369 Perhaps in a manner similar to silents vs. talkies, and in case this Baby-Doll iteration is a conservative who doesn't like changes to the status quo too much, since having, le gasp, voices for her drawn characters may somehow seem "cringe". Basically, I just want the show to tackle the rise of animation in its time period in a meaningful fashion.
not going to lie, I didn't think of why the carnival performers beating Bruce Wayne been because he sounded like a pedo, I just thought they were mean jerks to him. but now that you mention his lack of social skills when he's not batman make so much sense now.
Batman protecting Nocturna with his cape reminds me alot of when he killed Dracula in that other series (The Batman 2005 i think?) by moving out of the way of a sun lamp
This episode reminds me of a episode of tourchwood(a dr who spinof about a secret organisation stoping aleins uts a bit darker then dr who some times very edgy) in series 2 episode 10 from out of rain theres people from an old circus who drain peoples souls i tbink i cang remember
Uh... Carrie isn't an orphan either. Her mom is the Commissioner in DKR. Unless you mean orphan in that she's been displaced in time and her mom isn't even born yet now.
Her mother isn’t Ellen Yindel, not sure where you got that idea from. Both of her parents were alive, sure, but they were negligent - hence why Carrie was running around Gotham unsupervised. They practically forgot that she existed.
It’s not simply selfishness, driving her character. she’s clearly suffering because of her condition and a half assed attempts her brother made to help cure her only made things worse
I actually had no knowledge of Nocturna and thought Natalia was a take on Talia Al-Ghul, daughter of the famed Ra's Al-Ghul. Given the aged down not-Robins, the younger version didn't make me raise an eyebrow. And I assumed her life draining ability was some sort of nod to the Lazarus Pit, which rejuvenates the user but also sometimes drives the user mad with power for a time.
(Original account got 404'd again, if SL's asking.) Vampires are so last century. Them not appearing in B: TAS and other DC Animated Universe stuff is surprisingly a breath of fresh air. Don't mind The Batman 2004 and The Brave and the Bold having them though. 3:02: And sounds like her. 4:39: Jase, actually. Dunno, there's a chance Carrie or a then offscreen Tim Drake will be a later Robin. Time will tell, sooner or later. Always with a hall of mirrors, just like in Teen Titans' "Betrayal" and The Batman 2004's "Strange Minds". Waylon better not become a later foe, though I do wish he'll get the occasional cameo per season doing numerous odd jobs. 7:58: Good point, though adults may recover quickly. Would like to see this ep becoming harsher in hindsight due to later events surrounding Nocturna, the same way Clayface from "Feat of Clay: Parts 1 and 2" became less sympathetic by way of later eps like "Growing Pains". With the vid order in mind, Ep. 10's subject should be the Thornes?
She’s not a monster in my opinion she’s a child with a medical condition that is poorly understood and causes her the impulse to harm others to treat herself

Not to mention the careless way he pressed Harvey dent for information
I'm surprised you didn't bring up the drug abuse analogy. Her constant "just one more" bargaining with her brother really gives off addict vibes.
I often decide not to say things that I think are too obvious, thinking that everyone already knows about it, so what's the point in bringing it up. And I always end up regretting it...
My theory about the Robins:
Since Caped Crusader has a noir horror tone it, I could see these Robins showing up in future episodes, now inspired by Batman and acting a group of junior detectives who investigate small mysteries and ocasionally help Batman, providing him with informations about what's going on the streets of Gotham (kind like the Newsboy Legion from My Adventures with Superman).
Which is itself inspired by the Baker Street Irregulars that Sherlock Holmes employed often.
@@MarioMastar The Batman Beyond character that you're alluding to is Terry McGinnis, who became the new Batman.
I always want more Carrie Kelley. We don’t see that robin often in animation.
That thumbnail cracks me up for some reason. I think it’s the expression on Nocturna’s face that does it for me.
I'm currently running an experiment with three different thumbnails. Which one did you see? The one with her sucking the life out of Stephanie Brown?
Don't know why but I got the redhead as thumbnail and blond one for when I leave my phone away and come back. Not sure about the third one.
Her sucking on the Blondie is -thats is such a weird sentence actualy
she looks like a Family Guy character with that mouth open
Okay, but that makes the quote from JLU even more heartbreaking:
Wonder Woman, "I don't know, I thought it was kind of fun, getting to be a kid again."
Batman: "I haven't been a kid since I was eight."
This is why Robin is important.
Joker was not sympathetic but you do not see anyone complaining
I would have liked a more sympathetic Croc but the episode does have a message. The performers had each other 4 support and love but Croc had no one in his life to love him.
By this point he was so used to being a monster that the thought of trying to be good never enter his mind. He did sound regretful near the end perhaps implying a slight self loathing 4 himself.
Yes 👏. Croc was also heroic in DC’s Bomshells tie-in comic to the toy line and the Batman Earth One graphic novel trilogy
Controversial take, I think Natalia
Should of died, would of made the
Episode much darker, like how is
she going to Rehabilitated?? She
will just become Alma & go on
another killing spree batman
doomed everyone.
Bruce Wayne is a billion heir play boy with good business sense. Sure he knows how to throw a mean right hook but that's about it.
😂 you dumb that guy went to all martial artists in the world and throws straight hands
“Boo! How dare Batman let those orphans develop naturally? He should throw a yellow cape on them.”
Jokes aside, as much as I love the concept of Robin, and I think it works with Batman thematically, I think for the specific story they were going for here. It’s best to just have the orphans be references to the Robins. At least for the time being.
Just wait till they are older
I’m right there with you. In my personal opinion not every universe needs a robin. Sometimes it’s perfectly fine to just let these kids enjoy their childhood.

Hey Batman, why the bright bat logo on your chest?
B: oh, well that's there to draw the gunmans attention so he shoots the armored part of my suit.
Ah, and why are your sidekicks all dressed in bright colors while patrolling at night?
B: same idea.... less bruising for me.
Little reserve army for Batman!
I appreciate making Jason a redhead, like his original design, I feel like both that and his original Robin design should be used more
Agreed
Question being, how and why are Leslie's kids there?
@@MikeyPartIIGood question
It could work in a number of ways.
Reasons 2 and 3 are not excludent, now that I think about it. An episode like this could use both.
I think you mean Robin Egg 😁
@@JDog2656 Hahaha yes!! 😁
There is one thing about Batman so many seem to forget. Batman draws lots of its background from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. From the obvious reference of Arkham Asylum, to the most obscure Lovecraft reference of Mr. Freeze (look up the story Cool Air).
Love craft? The image of Batman shooting a Vampire with a gun image used in this video now makes sense. 😂😂
Plus, the asylum was named after the city from Massachusetts that H.P. Lovecraft created in pay a homage to the author. It's really cool.
Even though it's a nice cameo, I would like to see more of Waylon. But not as a villain. Maybe in a future episode he could be framed for a crime and Batman is trying to prove he is innocent.
Yeah, I am glad to see at least universe where he's accepted for who he is.
Like an inverse of the BTAS episode "Vendetta"?
But Carrie Kelly wasn’t an orphan either, it was just implied her parents were neglectful and didn’t give her the time of day
Maybe by this point she was taken away by child services, or they just decided to kill her parents off!
I need BLATHMA!!
True and Tim's mom did die before be officially became robin and his dad was in comaso his lack existence makes no sense
The dopamine rush I got while watching this episode was so awesome getting to see all these character appearing from well know ones likes Jason and Dick to lesser known ones like Julie. I truly felt like that leonardo meme were he points at the TV.
I felt similarly about the BTAS references in The Stress of Her Regard’s newspaper headlines
Yeah, the second she told Batman that he has so much energy I was like "oh carp" The second she slammed his head into a tree (repeatedly) I was like "Oh $#!+" I also laughed when Carrie hit her in the head with the rock. (reminded me of BTAS' Killer Croc for "some reason")
When the oddity group started beating up Bruce, I was like "I would hate them more if they didn't do this..." and then "I'm guessing they've encountered something similar before."
BWF
Such is fanservice, kind of like Casually Comics breaking down any The Brave and the Bold ep.
Hey now, don’t forget when The Batman fought literal Dracula himself.
yah that was a very interesting conversation dracula had with batman 'Your copying me dude..."
We definitely need more adaptations of pre crisis stories.
So instead of being a child-predator, she is a child that's a predator...
"She drinks people!"
@@TheRealNekora Sucked them dry.
She was never a child predator.
She was Jason's mother figure.

I love the Easter egg with all the kids being a Robin
Really liked the original Nocturna. She genuinly loved Jason and was the best mother he ever had.
If she was around maybe he would never searched for his real mother....
Glad i wasnt the only one that thought Nocturna looked alot like Wednesday Adams. This ep really did show that Batman was opening to others and being kind to them. Having all the kids being the Robins was really cool, also i didnt even know that was Killer Croc. The amount of details in the show is crazy
I really like how they made remade Nocturna, they made her very interesting and sympathetic, I kinda hope this version appears in the comics
Honestly a vampire taking one look at batman and decided "oh yeah, I need to turn this guy" is a weirdly fitting concept.
@@amfstudios8695 if you need a better example look at the elseworlds books Batman red rain and Batman Bloodstorm
I too expected a more "grounded" batman so to say, but wasn't too surprised either with the supernatural thrown in.
I have to say, BCC has been doing some interesting things and moments like him comforting and saving Nocturna felt almost right out of BTAS.
I still remember that cartoon where Batman killed off Dracula. Vampire Joker was pretty epic!
I Think we all can be 75% Selfish at times of great stress.
considering this version of batman is very early in his career, it's not impossible that these orphans could grow up to become robin in say, 10-20 years? depending on how old they are and how long this batman is active
I like this episode a lot plus I have to agree with you on how Nocturna is selfish and because of her selfishness loses everything ponient really
Two of them were in a movie not long ago
I wouldn't mind ig future adaptations of Nocturna took inspiration from this episode
It was my second favorite episode after the Clayface one
Thanks for the video
Natalia was definitely one of the better villains from Caped Crusader. She was cruel and selfish but she did have one redeeming quality: the love for her brother. A nice contrast to killer Croc and the rest of the performers. They may look like monsters, but unlike Natalia they do not act like monsters. They only attacked Bruce because they thought he was a child molester which is understandable.
I don't even think Natalia has that she essentially killed him, I find It weird how she starts crying based On a stranger telling her he died, she didn't care when she pushed
a bookshelf on him leaving him there with a injury, her character isn't consistent.

Bruce Timm with gray hair makes me feel so old ahhhh
So I wonder why they didn’t use Mad Monk in the 90’s series as he too is a vampire and I wonder why they never used him more often because remember I said about alternative Justice League as monsters were the Batman equivalent is a vampire called the Bat King.
But saying that they couldn’t use vampire in the DCAU they brought in a werewolf
I was wondering when Killer Croc was going to appear but I thought would be like the Arkham knight and 2004 series where he has tail
Remember what Bruce Timm said about not having enough female villains which is about bull and hypocritical as he along with probably DC editorial that they think that like in the Poison Ivy last Friday that she was a misunderstood person even though that’s not the case.
For the video on Two Face remember about what I said about other versions that Harvey Dent was probably already was a bad person before getting disfigured like in the Earth one, Gotham by Gaslight, Beware the Batman and Telltale if you choose to save him he is still an a-hole
That is an awesome version of Croc, he isn’t even a bad when we first see him, he’s just a good guy trying to do a service alongside his community

Nocturna is very vicious especially after she crippled her brother and saying coldly "who's the baby now ?" Btw she's pretty
But on the other hand she suffer herself and sucking the energy of childrens is the only way to being still alive. Sometimes desperate situations can turn into understandable ones. Under his stoic facade Batman is altruistic with his opponents.
The end of that episode is so dark when Harvey after he don't defended the guy Thorne paid him to avoid the jail case received acid thanks to that crawling thug.

I like that Natalia drained people energy rather than blood, much like Morbius in Spider Man Animated series, drained people's plasma through his hands. In contrast to the batman versus dracula movie

His victims could be saved, but the count himself had to be put back where he belongs, in the ground

@@elongatedmanforever1252 Oh yeah.😬

You say the Robins are all orphans in the comics, but Steph Brown… wasn’t? At least not usually, pretty sure her parents are both alive (Arthur of course is trash, and Crystal depends on the continuity…)
Does anyone actually dislike the Ace vibes of Nocturna, here? Haven’t yet seen it anywhere…
I know Cluemaster was dead at one point in the comics, and I think her mother had died as well? Although in the comics people go from being dead to being alive again all the time.
Nice commentary
dare I say this was the best episode in season 1?
Agreed.
And I wished we saw her fate in the final episode
Also the Robins deserve better.
( 7:18 ) if Killer Croc becomes a villain in season two (if he shows up) he’ll probably become one for one of two reasons.
1. Is tired of being treated like a freak.
Or
2. Something bad happens to his circus family, and as a result, lashes out in anger and grief.
So she's an average teenager.

We don't know much of Nocturna's backstory in the show, so we can only guess (Not defending her actions, just theorizing)
My theory is that since her older brother is her guardian, is slightly responsible for her turning out, he doesn't care about her hurting kids he just doesn't wanna get caught, he is in a scam business and either they are desperate and have no choice- OR they are just shady bad people, i believe Nocturna is 14 and that isn't a good upbringing to have your out of control vampire little sister have- i know there are no like- "vampire caretakers"/anyone that would understand her and not hurt her, but he should of worked towards a more good life than scamming for Nocturna and himself, i don't know what situation they are in as this is maybe their only option, but he should of been a better role model, idk how many years and if he took care of Nocturna since she was born or has taken care of her for a awhile, but even though he cares for her, he enables and doesn't put up a gold example, i know Nocturna needs energy and there is currently no other opinion for her, but he allows her to harm kids which basically shows how...morally gray he is, another factor is their parents, there is a chance their parents disowned Nocturna for her uncontrollable condition and her brother defended her and the 2 ran away- or their parents died, but clearly her brother has taken care of her for awhile, and isn't the best infulence in my extremely non professional and probably stupid opinion, as i am just yapping and theorizing on Nocturna's upbringing and how it possibly affected her, it seems to be a very difficult morally gray situation the 2 had i feel like-

I wonder what kind of changes they will make to Baby Doll, if they plan to include her in this version.
Make her a certain cartoon maker suddenly eclipsed by voice actors?
@@MikeyPartII How so ?
@@aidanhever3369 Perhaps in a manner similar to silents vs. talkies, and in case this Baby-Doll iteration is a conservative who doesn't like changes to the status quo too much, since having, le gasp, voices for her drawn characters may somehow seem "cringe".
Basically, I just want the show to tackle the rise of animation in its time period in a meaningful fashion.
Seeing Stephanie Brown in an orphanage makes me wonder if Batman captured Arthur Brown at some point before the beginning of the series.
not going to lie, I didn't think of why the carnival performers beating Bruce Wayne been because he sounded like a pedo, I just thought they were mean jerks to him. but now that you mention his lack of social skills when he's not batman make so much sense now.
5:23 Took Dc comic so long to adapt that logic
You're right
Yikes 😳😬😱!
What do you think the Joker will have to do in season two of Batman
@@SerumLake in my defense, they look almost identical, granted, Frank Miller isn't the best artist.
I think if we were to get a Robin in this continuity, though I'm a little doubtful, it's definitely gonna be Carrie which is really interesting
Okay but Nocturna becoming Caped Crusader's first Robin would be pretty cool.
Ngl, with the massive amount of robin references and how the episode ended, I’m curious to see if Natalia will become the Robin of this universe.
(Original account got 404'd again, if SL's asking.)
Vampires are so last century.
I wonder why 3:33 is the most replayed🤔 clearly a case for the Batman!
7:30 mind you DC's Metamorpho broke this trope
The mad monk killed with Batman with a gun!!! Lol
She’s not a monster in my opinion she’s a child with a medical condition that is poorly understood and causes her the impulse to harm others to treat herself
That's probably what Batman thinks of her too.
It’s not her condition that makes her a monster, it’s the way she gave in to her desires.
