I like how the scene of Bruce getting beaten up by the circus performers is a result of his own social ineptitude, like he could’ve very easily explained the situation with all of the kids going missing, but it’s clear when he’s frustrated and unfocused, it’s evident his time as Batman has kind of screwed over his ability to act as a person when he’s not in the billionaire playboy persona.

    My theory about the Robins:
Since Caped Crusader has a noir horror tone it, I could see these Robins showing up in future episodes, now inspired by Batman and acting a group of junior detectives who investigate small mysteries and ocasionally help Batman, providing him with informations about what's going on the streets of Gotham (kind like the Newsboy Legion from My Adventures with Superman).

That would be cool. I'm frankly tired of people complaining about Batman "taking up children and giving them a cape and making them fight crime" as if Batman's some kind of predator... While a few versions of Batman did deliberately try to make soldiers out of kids, most of them were just trying to help in their own way...and our modernist interpretation of that shouldn't change what Bruce's intent was as it's not one of those "Product of the times" cases where someone does something wrong that was seen as okay back then, but isn't now. Still if they did want to better modernize the story, your idea would fit perfectly. Letting the Robins join Bruce on thier own will like Tracy did in Batman Beyond. Not just acting like children need some kind of barrier from ANYTHING until they turn 18 and are thrown into the streets. As the episode was alluding to, more people are unjustly attacked trying to help kids by being accused of perversion, ironically leading to more children suffering because of the baseless assumptions.

@@MarioMastar This whole idea of Batman being some predador of kids is a huge misconception. The whole point of Bruce taking Robin bc he understand their pain and knows that, without guidence, those kdis just become like him, obsessive with vengence, which could result in them being reckless and getting killed or worse become villains like his rogues gallery.
Robin Reckoning even shows that Dick Grayson run away from Wayne manor and went after Zucco on his own and almost got himself killed if wasn't for Batman. In this scenario, Bruce need to act as mentor, giving the kids the abilities to defend themselves, as well morals and father figure they can look up to so they don't become emotionally traumatized like him nor end up like Jason.
Besides is not like the comics treated Batman training kids like 100% good thing, with characters like Leslie even calling out this decision and Batman even questioning if he's right by exposing these kids to this world of mobsters and psychopats.

The little detail of Carrie grabbing on to Batman's cape as they walk into the sunrise legitimately brought a tear to my eye. I think that's one angle for the Bruce Wayne/Batman character that gets overlooked sometimes (but Bruce Timm seems to like doing it), is that Batman struggles to interact with adults in a mature manner, but he does truly love and connect with children. As Bruce Wayne he's cavalier and distant with other adults, and as Batman he's cold and distant. But with kids, he feels like he can be warm and empathetic in both of his alter egos. I guess that's because of the fact that in spite of his genius intellect and years of brutal experience, emotionally he's still a scared little boy who just witnessed his parents' murder. He struggles to empathize with and understand adult life and experience, but innately grasps a child's perspective; because, it a very real way, he's still a child, stunted and prevented from ever truly growing up by his trauma.

Okay, but that makes the quote from JLU even more heartbreaking:

    • @prophetisaiah08
      @prophetisaiah08 2 месяца назад +21

@@burnslee1164 Yeah. Bruce think's that's the moment he was forced to be an adult, but what 8-year-old knows what being an adult even means, let alone how to be one? In reality, it's the moment where his emotional development got stunted. Part of the tragedy of Batman is that because he was emotionally stunted as a traumatized 8-year-old, he lacks the self-awareness to know that this is the case. At least until he interacts with kids, then (maybe subconciously) he finally feels free to actually be himself, not the hardened crimefighter that he feels that he needs to be.

I just wonder how he might've reacted had he met her earlier in his career, back before he started to experience emotions again. Note how he didn't seem at all phased about all those mobsters that got blown up in Thorne's factory at the start of the first episode. Granted, he didn't know the explosion was coming, so it's not the same situation, but DCAU Batman would've been outraged at all the senseless killing.

Same, especially after hearing his backstory and seeing BTAS's episode where he joins the carnival and just...steals from them because he's trying to run away from the police. I really dislike how that ended with him just claiming "I've always been a criminal and a thief, I thought this place would accept that." like the man was Born a monster. BTAS often did a good job of making thier villains dark but sympathetic in their own way, or making it clear that their acts of villainy were their own fault due to hubris or whatever have you, but to make an episode that looks like it's going to be a redemption for a disfigured villain, only to 180 and go "No, he's just a terrible person" (especially as a victim of racism in his childhood according to the original comics) just really rubbed the wrong way... it's kind of like saying that "Big grotesque looking black man who got bullied by racists as a kid chose to be a criminal and isn't worth sympathy." or like when the comics version of Bane had him be a victim of Genocide only to become a super villain as the result of the genocide like "Forgive ME for having some militia come and destroy my home country, imprison me and torture me. I guess I"M the bad guy." Something BTAS fixed by making his backstory ambiguous and giving him a more charming demeanor so that it was clearer HE chose to be a villain on his own accord (for the power of the juice) and isn't just a bad guy because he looks big and brutish and thus kids would easily identify him as a monster.

I would have liked a more sympathetic Croc but the episode does have a message. The performers had each other 4 support and love but Croc had no one in his life to love him.

In other media there would be seen as something to gawk at but here there are portrayed as being human beings and good natured people which is what people with deformaties are. Waylon in particular has always been portrayed as being a tragic character, his mother died during childbirth and his cruel aunt raised him add his skin condition and you have a very volatile but tragic villan.

So can we just all agree that Batman let the carnival guys beat him up? After all fighting back would just make him look more guilty and he doesn’t wanna hurt innocent civilians.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t know if Batman would be able to even take on that many people at once, especially without his equipment in this universe, but the fact that he never even tries throwing a punch from what I can remember, really implies that he understands that the carnival crew was just trying to do the right thing as they misunderstood the situation

    • @MarioMastar
      @MarioMastar 2 месяца назад

Given the unfortunate circumstances, I think the authors included that scene deliberately to make a point about predator accusers and how quick they are to jump to violent conclusions. It might be a tongue in cheek reference to the infamous Pizzagate case where a rabid person shot up a restaurant because he believed they were filming underage porn in the basement....and the building didn't have a basement.... it was a hoax, yet several people died unnecessarily. That vigilantism ironically is leading to even more children being in hostile situations because if they try to speak out about a suspicion, people react super strongly to the incident and feel they have to attack someone for it, USUALLY the child for even being in the position in the first place (see all the people demanding that anyone under 18 be banned from various sites simply because they don't want them to look at all the porn they keep sharing and thus attack any account that is underage as if they're being the heroes). Bats may have let them beat him up, but the message is very clear, given we know Batman was trying to save a life, and they still jumped to that conclusion, it says more about them and how they handle children. Especially since their attack almost lead to a fourth child "going missing".

I hope season 2 brings Natalia back replacing Becky Albright on an adaptation of Mistress of Fear. It’d be the perfect next step for her character.
Humor me: Scarecrow is a doctor in the hospital Natalia is in. He treats her and encourages her hunger essentially mentoring her to become the fearful Nocturna.
At first glance she seems to relish in all her power and cruelty but we see that she has a lot of guilt for what she did to Anton and Batman’s kindness toward her did not go unnoticed.
Between this tug of war between Scarecrow and Batman for Natalia’s soul, the Robin kids can come back (as kids not sidekick heroes) and tip the balance in Batman’s favor. Coming to terms, forgiving and maybe trying to become friends with Natalia.

I always felt her rivalry with Catwoman was interesting and work to show Batman facing his own hipocrisy, how he spend most of his stories wanting to reform Catwoman, saying they couldn't be together as long they were in opposite sides of the law, only to stop given attention the moment she decide to reform, chaging focus to another thief (almost like he only give attention to people when they seem to have something to fix).

Or people who think violence is okay as long as it's not sexual. Do you think there was any intentional symbolism to the use of a carnival for the setting of this episode?
For example, carnivals are traditionally spaces of illusion, where appearances can be deceiving. They can create a façade of joy and entertainment while hiding darker elements beneath the surface. In the context of Nocturna's storyline, the carnival setting reflects how Natalia and Anton present themselves to the world: as entertainers who provide fun and excitement, while simultaneously concealing their predatory and exploitative behavior. This duality speaks to the broader theme of how individuals can hide their true intentions behind a veneer of charm and entertainment.

This just made me think of an idea, let Warner Brothers make an animated movie using Nocturna, tell the story about bruce becoming a vampire, except as an elseworlds film. Direct to video, nost likely blue ray, but wonder who they would use as Batman this time, use either the actor from Batman Caped Crusader, or the Actor who voiced him from Batman the Doom that Came to Gotham.

5:30 I would like to point out that Bruce never made the children become Robin. In fact, it was the children who made the choice themselves, and Bruce had taken many steps in removing them from that life. However, once realizing that they would fight crime regardless of what he does, he decides that training them and patrolling with them is a much healthier way of dealing with this (in a fiction setting).

  •  2 месяца назад +5

My guess is if Robin does become a thing that it'll be Tim Drake as opposed to Richard Grasyon who becomes the first robin and later after (assuming if Raz al Ghul shows up) Tim gets older and becomes Nightwing, we'll see Damian as the replacement Robin.

Natalia was definitely one of the better villains from Caped Crusader. She was cruel and selfish but she did have one redeeming quality: the love for her brother. A nice contrast to killer Croc and the rest of the performers. They may look like monsters, but unlike Natalia they do not act like monsters. They only attacked Bruce because they thought he was a child molester which is understandable.

But saying that they couldn’t use vampire in the DCAU they brought in a werewolf
I was wondering when Killer Croc was going to appear but I thought would be like the Arkham knight and 2004 series where he has tail
Remember what Bruce Timm said about not having enough female villains which is about bull and hypocritical as he along with probably DC editorial that they think that like in the Poison Ivy last Friday that she was a misunderstood person even though that’s not the case.
For the video on Two Face remember about what I said about other versions that Harvey Dent was probably already was a bad person before getting disfigured like in the Earth one, Gotham by Gaslight, Beware the Batman and Telltale if you choose to save him he is still an a-hole

One more thing Nocturna was to use his rejected design◊ from The Animated Series with a storyline (inspired by the Bloofer Lady) of her being a wealthy donor to the Gotham Orphanage who used her access to prey upon its children. However, the writers room couldn’t make the story work until someone suggested turning Nocturna into a child herself. While he briefly lamented having to let go of his design again, Timm admitted it was a more interesting idea.

She didn’t kill anyone, and the one time she did was manslaughter of her brother which she clearly shows remorse for. As someone who lost a friend to suicide I find that deeply troubling regardless of a character’s actions. It also ties into her sun averse condition. True we don’t know a whole lot about the circumstances around her energy absorption but until she can be treated she can’t live a normal life regardless without being incinerated when exposed to the sun’s harsh rays.

I feel the Noctura episode for me is the one I feel the series did well emphasizing Batman does not enjoy punishing children as villains. However I wished there was more in my opinion. But hey at least it's better than Comic Noctura.
As for Noctura I enjoyed her being a expy of Wednesday Adams. In my opinion I feel Noctura being an unnatural supernatural being was interesting and adapted her age to that of a child. That means that Nocutura would be harder for Batman to deal with like given in comics Batman does not want to hurt children. I think that's one of his biggest weaknesses.
However I wished we had more insight on Anton her brother and her bond more. I do feel pity for both but I couldn't completly sympathise for her. It's because the Harvey Dent storyline was used in the story I felt it overshadowed the Noctura plotline.
As a result I feel Noctura was a good Batman villainess and its better than being a vampire. But I feel her episode could've done more with her. And I wished we saw her fate in the final episode
    Also the Robins deserve better.

We don't know much of Nocturna's backstory in the show, so we can only guess (Not defending her actions, just theorizing)
My theory is that since her older brother is her guardian, is slightly responsible for her turning out, he doesn't care about her hurting kids he just doesn't wanna get caught, he is in a scam business and either they are desperate and have no choice- OR they are just shady bad people, i believe Nocturna is 14 and that isn't a good upbringing to have your out of control vampire little sister have- i know there are no like- "vampire caretakers"/anyone that would understand her and not hurt her, but he should of worked towards a more good life than scamming for Nocturna and himself, i don't know what situation they are in as this is maybe their only option, but he should of been a better role model, idk how many years and if he took care of Nocturna since she was born or has taken care of her for a awhile, but even though he cares for her, he enables and doesn't put up a gold example, i know Nocturna needs energy and there is currently no other opinion for her, but he allows her to harm kids which basically shows how...morally gray he is, another factor is their parents, there is a chance their parents disowned Nocturna for her uncontrollable condition and her brother defended her and the 2 ran away- or their parents died, but clearly her brother has taken care of her for awhile, and isn't the best infulence in my extremely non professional and probably stupid opinion, as i am just yapping and theorizing on Nocturna's upbringing and how it possibly affected her, it seems to be a very difficult morally gray situation the 2 had i feel like-

Ngl, with the massive amount of robin references and how the episode ended, I’m curious to see if Natalia will become the Robin of this universe.

(Original account got 404'd again, if SL's asking.)
Vampires are so last century. Them not appearing in B: TAS and other DC Animated Universe stuff is surprisingly a breath of fresh air. Don't mind The Batman 2004 and The Brave and the Bold having them though.
    3:02: And sounds like her.
    4:39: Jase, actually.
Dunno, there's a chance Carrie or a then offscreen Tim Drake will be a later Robin. Time will tell, sooner or later.
Always with a hall of mirrors, just like in Teen Titans' "Betrayal" and The Batman 2004's "Strange Minds".
Waylon better not become a later foe, though I do wish he'll get the occasional cameo per season doing numerous odd jobs.
7:58: Good point, though adults may recover quickly.
Would like to see this ep becoming harsher in hindsight due to later events surrounding Nocturna, the same way Clayface from "Feat of Clay: Parts 1 and 2" became less sympathetic by way of later eps like "Growing Pains".
With the vid order in mind, Ep. 10's subject should be the Thornes?

I wonder why 3:33 is the most replayed🤔 clearly a case for the Batman!

She’s not a monster in my opinion she’s a child with a medical condition that is poorly understood and causes her the impulse to harm others to treat herself

That's probably what Batman thinks of her too.

It’s not her condition that makes her a monster, it’s the way she gave in to her desires.
