Hi Dr. Watt, really curious about something I asked on a prior video that you alluded to. To put it most simply, what is the relationship between formal requirements for Thangka painting (I understand the geometry and proportions are highly fixed and formalized), and artistic conventions that are largely a product of received habit? I'm curious to what extent and in which cases the formal requirements in both statue and painted images preclude certain representations (I.E. an 8 year old Pema Jungne, because children cannot really be represented in these formalized images) versus which cases this is purely an artistic habit or convention?
Some examples that mystify me: Guru Rinpoche is frequently depicted with almost porcine nostrils and large, porcine or bat-wing like ears. I've never seen or heard the basis for this. Likewise, some guru or deity figures are described as 8 or 16 years old but invariably appear as adult figures proportionally and otherwise (eight year old Lotus Born guru never missing his signature mustache)

Wow! That is a lot. I will need to respond to it in smaller chunks.

According to Tibetan bon religion, does each human soul continues to exist after death?
Is there any mention of ceasing existence of any human soul, anyhow according to them?
Is there any mention until when human souls will continue to exist ? Or the souls continue to exist for eternal time?
    Please reply
