Federation is quite possibly my game of the year. The simple act of choosing between voting or funding has a much bigger impact than you would think and creates a ton of player interaction that is absent from a lot of heavy euros.
I am a big fan of this game! We were lucky to pick up a copy before they ran out at Essen. I also was really intrigued by the color of the game, it's nice to sometimes play a brighter game in the middle of a bunch of gloomier looking ones.
11 months later...I wonder if anyone is still playing this game? Has it lost any of its appeal to those who were so hot on it? Would definitely want to play this before purchase.
I thought I would dislike the blocking tokens in 2-3p games, but it works well and enjoy the game (8.5/10). Still haven't played at 4p yet, but looking forward to it. It will always have a place in my collection since it is unique, strategic, and enjoyable. Not a short game, time-wise, but doesn't seem to drag on and obviously goes faster once everyone has one game under their belt.
Great discussion! This one was on my radar already. I like the look and theme - unsure if my gaming friends would also like it. It looks interesting mechanically for sure! On the Wish List it goes!
@@saimrafiq5773 It's a worker placement game but it's quite unique due to the fact that your workers not only have differents values but they have 2 sides. So you first have to think "do I wanna advance this project(I don't remember how they're called) or do I want to participate in the majority on the line I place my worker + side of the board(right or left). And that's not all ! You have to puzzle all that with an action you care about advancing because the more you do an action the better it gets. So yeah it's really fun. I'd say Resurgence as a bit of that too but it's not as good. Not to say that Resurgence is a bad game but it's just that Federation is on another level. Federation is my 11th fav game of all time (as of me writing this), it just missed the top 10 by a hair. If you're curious Resurgence is 40, not too shabby either.
I just played this a couple of times on the weekend and it's a great euro game. I would give it a soft 8 with a possibility of going to 8.5 with more plays.
This would have been my game of the year if it had a solo mode. I seldom get to play with more than 2 people and mostly play solo. This is still, such an amazing game even if it's fairly heavy.
This game looks interesting to me. I'm always on the lookout for Euro games with some level of interaction. As far as the aesthetics goes, I know some hate this look but I personally like it.
"Moving up all these tracks . . . " That is the kiss of death for me. I pretty much need to just find out if a game uses tracks and I'll know if I should look any farther. We all have preferences in games and I know that is at the bottom of mine.
I have noticed that games lately just seem to be a mishmash of things in this case tracks and are forgettable. I never see a cohesive design in these games and I do not understand how they keep getting made.
I have played this game only once. I play a lot of games but I found the amount of options overwhelming. I think for some thats a bonus but for me it was too much. For people who want a very thinky worker placement/euro this will be right up your street.
@@saimrafiq5773 hello. Pretty much as described above. I may give it one more play as I now know the rules but I just dont think its a game for me. The most similar thing I would liken it to would be Dune and Wingspan
Oh boy! I have to agree with Mike. For me... It's just a LITTLE too much. I love the look and all the intertwined actions but between the setup/teardown it just barely crosses the line for a little too heavy for me. It's great right now but once it's back on the shelf for a bit it'll be daunting for me to get it back into rotation.
A four person review really stood out when one person reviews were the norm, but these days with so many two and three people reviews about it isn’t that big a thing to have four. So it doesn’t need highlighting with a separate name/intro.
The "four squares" referenced the four windows when they had streaming separately during the pandemic. Before that they had multi-reviews called "Miami something"?
Very surprised by all the positive comments on the look of the game. I got strong Galaxy Trucker first edition vibes, looked really ugly to me. Also, as with almost every game, the screen printed bits clash with the style of the rest of the game.
Wendy was dead on, the board looks juvenile, so much so that at first glance the center of it looks like a Sponge Bob underwater theme until you realize it is in space. I did not like the look of this game at all. So far Capstone appears to be one of the few companies that knows how to make euro games look good. Wendy please don't be so generous on your ratings if you really dont like something. I really enjoy your criticisms, but dont change them because Tom disagrees. Delisio was also being nice about how garrish this board looks too.
Big agree with you and Wendy, juvenile is possibly the best word to describe the look. It looks outdated compared to any style and some design reconsiderations would have made this a proper presentation. The aesthetic is so much what it is that I'm turned off from purchasing.
Tom you confuse me when explaining how to plays etc. I would give it up as you dont really explain how to play but rather what you get from playing a space
A very big thank you to all The Dice Tower team !!! 😍😍😍 i'm so happy to get this Seal of Excellence ! 🥳

This was a game not on my radar that I'm definitely interested in now. I'd need to get more info on how it would play with 2 players though.
not a multiplayer solo game makes me want to try it alone
Not a big fan of the artwork, but I'm interested in the voting part, hopefully I'll get to try it out
Wendy's comment on colors being juvenile is spot on for me. Not sure why that was such a baffling comment for Tom.

Is there a reason the videos aren't called Four Square Reviews anymore?
Because most reviews now have more than one person, so this is now just a review with 4 people
