I have been told you can also use bitter water to bless the cradleboard instead of the red sand powder and sheep fat. If you didn't bless the cradleboard I would take some bitter water and bless it anyway. Many times I have blessed a customer's cradleboard when it needs restrung or bedding.
Hello there. I wanted to know do u have measurements for the fabric? I like to make one for my 1st grand baby (boy). I have been looking every where on the internet. how to the sides of the cradle. Thank you for the tutorial.
I have a template made out of plexiglass. The easiest way to make side straps. You will need 2 layers for each side, I recommend using regular cotton and nothing hot like minky, fleece, flannel, wool, or velvet. Using hot fabrics will cause the baby to overheat. You need to take some measurements. Measure from first side strap hole to last and add 2in for seam allowance. Then measure width and add 1in for seam allowance. The straps themselves are 2inx48in and you need 2 of them. The lightning is 2inx72in and you only need 1. Sew the straps and lightning by folding in half all the way down the entire length. You will need to turn them right side out. Next step. Sew the sides right side together down 1 side, along the bottom, and up the other side. Leave the top open because you will put the straps inside and top stitch around. The cushion you will need to measure the width under the rainbow, width at the footboard and the length from where the ears join in the middle. This is your template for the 2in foam. Use a marker and mark out the widths and length to make the cushion. Cut out with a very sharp knife. If it's dull it will rip the foam and not give a clean cut. U can use fabric scissors but regular scissors don't work. Lay cushion over the fabric mark around the cushion by 1.5in this allows for the height of the cushion and the seam allowance. You will want the cover to be about 4in longer at the bottom so you can tuck them inside and still be able to remove the foam for washing. The rain is exactly 1/2 yard of white and trimmed in doublefold extra wide bias tape. You will need two packets of the same color. Total fabric needed is any combo of print or solid 2 yards for the sides and cushion and 1/2 of white for the rain. Sew the lighting to the boy side which is the cradleboards left or your right as you look from the footboard.

We use two holes in our doll size rainbow and we use the same steps just omitting the two middle holes. So you start with a knot, thread through hole 1 two times and hole 2 two times. Then back through hole 1 only 1 time but don't go down the cradleboard hole, only the rainbow hole. It should be coming out the back side of hole 1 on the rainbow. Then through the backside to front of hole 2 on the rainbow and make a knot. You should end up with both knots facing outwards from each hole, a vertical line from each hole and an x in the middle. On the inside of the rainbow you will have two vertical lines coming out of each hole and 1 horizontal line from hole 1 to hole 2 on the rainbow. I hope this helps. If not let me know.
The Design on the Doll board wwa what i origianlly had on ours... thinking we werent going to have another child i untied the cradle board and put it away to our suprised last summer we were expecting baby #4 haha the but i couldnt find the pattern anywhere glad i watched this... im currently tying my daughter right now an was worried about attching the rainbow to the base.

@@Bitsue2505 that's awesome! Congratulations! We are so happy this helped you! The way we tie the rainbow gives it more stability versus the old way.
