I play doom 2016 and doom eternal side by side (I was only allowed to have those 2 games) and if I get bored of doom eternal I play doom 2016 and if I get bored of it I play eternal.

It's great that they're so different, because they're both perfect in their own ways and Doom 2016 is by no means made obsolete by Doom Eternal
I agree. Though I think Eternal tops out, DOOM 2016 has a charm to it that's irreplaceable.
As someone whose mastered Eternal's mechanics and can successfully play on Nightmare/Ultra, it definitely feels obsolete 👀 It was fantastic for the time but Eternal's just night & day better in every way

Man Doom 2016 for me is a nostalgic experience, its looks like an old friend that even the Doom Eternal being your new best friend, that old friend will Always have he arms open for to speak with him again! @@squidbombproductions1106 overall, yeah, I would've rather have more atmosphere elements from 2016 carry over into eternal, as this arcady feel that eternal has has become too over the top for me after tag2 update with the stars over demon's heads when they are staggered
What I truly miss about doom 2016 is the storyline, I feel like id just abandoned too much threads from that game, i.e. Samuel wielding the crucible, The Wretch and so on
@@RK_Koala I completely agree. I also wish Doom Slayer had more personality like in 2016. I know it's not a lot, but seeing him get pissed off every once and a while in the cutscenes put into perspective how serious things were (and it added some adrenaline for me).
In Eternal, he's mostly just expressionless. I get he's a badass and doesn't have to have much personality, but the subtle touches like what you and I previously mentioned make a lot of difference imo.

The main thing that 2016 has over Eternal, although it’s small, is picking up weapons off of corpses like the chainsaw and shotgun, idk I liked actually picking them up rather than just walking through a green icon, 2016 made it really feel like I was actually moving through the world. Love them both sm regardless
Exactlyyy. Picking up the super shotgun early as fuck made it feel like I has actually found something amazing and was being rewarded. In Doom Eternal it doesn't really feel earned, kinda just dropped there.
Well in 2016 it is good because it allows you to two shot all enemies in like the second level.
In Eternal it is an essential to tool for the loop of the game and you don't just pick it up.
You have a revenant bow down,after you made him kill all his bros,then you take it and presumably kill him.I do.
Alt X I definitely loved that part, the SSG and Ballista felt great to pick up. I’m just talking about pick ups like the heavy cannon or chainsaw, where it was just a floating green icon and not something you see doomguy actually physically pick up with his hands. It’s a lil gripe for sure, just pulled me out of the experience a tad

However it feels like Eternal gave "special equipping" weapon treatment to the big players in the Arsenal.

Ballista is 3D printed in Fortress of Doom.
You make your Crucible.
You unlock and take Unmaykr from the Fortress.
And BFG is obvious how he got it.
I guess my point is that it happens rarer in Eternal but the scale and importance/power of the weapon is greater.
I liked how they tried to give a in-universe explanation to every power-up and item in 2016. The only thing I don't really like that much about eternal is the arcade feel and elements.
Now I feel like playing 2016 again. Both game are like poison, 1 vid of any kind and you wanna start Ripping and Tearing

DOOM is actually looping forever, you get out of coffin, kill some demons then do all the shit you did in Eternal and TAG1-TAG2, then you get back in coffin and repeat

If I had one criticism about doom eternal, is the wrist blade glory kills. I loved 2016’s unbridled rage of using your fists to murder your enemies.
Doom 2016 pulled of the horror sci-fi look, feel, and story better than anything else I've seen. Its atmosphere, environments, codex entries, make it seem like this scenario may indeed be possible in due time and the destructibility of demon bodies is just enough to not look cartoonish - something I think Eternal went overboard with. 2016 is dark, gory, with a massive high-tech facility where the only non-demonic creatures are the slayer, a hell-bent Olivia, some weird cyborg named Hayden and some weird computer named Vega. It's a true feeling of one against the world.
The depictions of Hell are also dark and always with amber/red lighting, just enough of it to barely see the demons (if you set your brightness as the game directs you). Great atmosphere.
I do wish the combat was as advanced and diverse as in Eternal though, with dashing and meathook at least.

Wow! A Lot of work went into this. I am currently playing this & couldn't help notice that it felt like I am playing the superior title. Feels more modern with the technology, the guns & music sound so much better, warmer even, I love how it took the threat seriously, how the violence & Demonic horror vibe is so atmospheric, how the Slayer had personality in defying rules & orders, the gore nests are tempting AF, it's not goofy like D.E, & there's no self-glorifying story.
The slayer doesn't have ego, he gets the job done coz he is pissed that the human race is threatened & doesn't consider himself Jesus Christ the savior hanging in space or anything. I wish they had carried this modest 'no exposition' ethos over to the next title & kept it short but sweet like Doom. I didn't like the direction they took giving us a "progress bar", dancing to _THEIR_ song with flame, bomb, chain - repeat. Adding jumping puzzles, slow slime, daft narrative & fan fiction lore, enemies that always have to be killed the same way, arenas.. waves.. fatiguing fights.. water?? Uhhh. It's alright I guess. But Doom is such a masterpiece. The balance it has is staggeringly addictive.
