I love that Sam has the perspective as both being in media for job and having the elite soccer/football experience along with the friendships. I feel like media lacks the compassion and understanding you would normally give to people in your life and I'm a big fan of the balance here
It is important to nicely remind the youngsters the very real battles women endured, and fought so they have what they have now. At times the youth need to respect and honor those who came before them so they appreciate the money, staff, crowds, medical care some take for granted. The shoulders they stand on were bloodied, broken and battered yet strong and determined knowing the sacrifices made and endured made the beautiful times we live in now. I thank players like Jill and the others.
Jill Scott is such a down to earth person. No other player will say, "You took my place, and rightfully so". She really uplifts everyone. And she also engages the host, Sam Mewis here, and ask her questions as well so the conversation feels more interactive
I absolutely loved this interview! It's so rare to have long and detailed conversations with English players so it's really a joy to listen to the podcast! Would love to have some Arsenal players on the podcast! We love you Sam!
Bruh I’m a mans man, but when she said “i put that medal on my chest and did one last box to box run” i lost it. Having injuries take me out of the game i love is heartbreaking, but listening to her be able to do that is awesome. I wish there was a video of it!
These interviews keep getting better and better 🔥Interview with Keira Walsh next please! Would love to hear her experience playing midfield for city and for barça. Thank you, Sam!
Good job on the interview and what a legend, here in England. I watched women's football ⚽️ on TV since Jill was first in the England team, not just a recent convert, though the more the merrier. I discovered RUclips a couple of years ago and was annoyed at all the negative comments for the women's game, considering the progress it had made whilst I was watching. I decided to always to try to say something positive in comments. In this case it was easy to, though I am a bit late. Keep up the good work. I hope Emma Hayes gets to bring the game to more kids in US, not just those from backgrounds who can afford to play. She is from a working class English background and respects efforts and skills, judging from watching her interviews, so should be a good match with American determination. I spent a couple of months in US some time back and saw this for myself.
LOVED the fireworks display 🎆when you described fellow Snacker 🟠, Lynn Williams, joining the pod soon! ❤Soooo appropriate! Yay Sammy Mewis! Yay Lynn Williams! Go BATS!!! 🦇⚽🏆
Great episode, made me emotional thinking of the 20/21 Man City team, what a team, just so sad as fans we couldn't go and watch. Hoping Man City can go on and win the wsl this season 😍
she's right, Walsh is phenomenal... and to share a midfield with Aitana and Patri on a regular basis? it's wild how good they are. I'd actually love to hear Sam's thoughts on the rumors around Hemp coming to Barca because with Alexia and Rolfo both injured but set to return in the near future, I honestly don't quite understand where she'll play on such a stacked team? There's a reason why Oshoala left FCB, and it wasn't just good money in the Bay... similarly I think a player as good as Hemp should go to a team where she can thrive as a consistent starter. tbh I really wish more of the high level English (and US) players would come to LigaF and play for other teams in the league so that FCB actually has some competition. I'm pretty sure their goal differential is currently around +70 while the second place team Real Madrid hovers around +25... it's insane. Of course its nice to win, but as a Barcelona resident I actually now go to Primera Federation games instead because they're more evenly matched which makes it interesting and exciting, even if it's not the same level of talent. sadly Espanyol who dominated the division in the fall has been off to a rocky 2024 so far since their head coach (who the players rave about, particularly how he handles the mental game) just left midseason to the Spirit, as Jona's interim/assistant... really hoping they can turn that momentum around soon💪 on a related note-- I'm also really curious to hear Sams thoughts on the new D1 USL "super league" in the US? I had hoped it would be D2 and they would create a tiered league system, similar to the way the PrimeraFed relates to LigaF, but it doesnt seem to be evolving in that direction... what's the inside scoop?? and how do you see this affecting the NWSL?
This endeavor is amazing. The delving into soccer experiences is great fun but the opportunity to discover what amazing people these athletes are off of the pitch is truly wonderful. Another great interview, thank you for sharing Jill Scott.
Is that supposed to be Kristie in the back?? That is so funny if it is 😂 And also, that poem was awesome. I have to say that I had no idea who Jill Scott was but I absolutely loved the interview and can’t wait for her to drop her poem book!
2022 Roster Rules (did this change?) International Player (any Player who is not a Domestic Player) There is an equivalent of five (5) international Roster spots per Team for the 2022 League Season (for a total of forty (40) international Rosters spots League-wide). A future guest should be Alex Scott. After all she was a Beakers player and she won the Bear Gyrlls show. And has been a very good pundit on English football.
21:45 one of the best Women's World Cup semifinal games I have ever seen. It was end to end. The US held on, Steph Houghton missed a penalty as well, Ellen White was narrowly offside for the second equaliser for England. And the US were brilliant in the first half, and that was without Megan Rapinoe starting.
asenal vs man u. from the highlight reels i saw the gunners were all over man u and the man u attack seemed to be token (disclaimer im not arsenal or utd fan 🙃
We need an Ellen White interview after this Jill Scott interview. They were the veterans of the Euro 2022 squad and they left the game after that victory
28:05 football was growing in Europe. Barcelona Femeni was pulling in crowds. But Euro 2022 was in England and it captured the nation. It was ths first proper football tournament without any COVID restrictions and ir was huge. Plus also, the English women players are likeable, personable and really wanted to grow the sport whereas many of the US and Canadian female soccer players had tbis snobbish attitude of being above the fans and more interested in their personal interests rather than growing the game together. Thats why European women's football especially in England, Spain, etc have grown and stadiums are being filled out in the Euros and in the World Cup in 2023
The consistency from Sam is unmatched. Her club/country knowledge & the turnaround speed of these pods are iconic. keep it up legend
Love that so many of these are with your former City teammates....would love to see some more of them

48:20 that really does deserve a round of applause. I never thought Jill Scot would have skills in poetry

Jill, while still playing pro-club football, entered the London Marathon on an off day from training.
She won her age group!
Absolutely LOVE Jill. Such a legend that deserves her respect!
