Unless you buy a classic car, those could be investments. 13:00 Bro, a hellcat with slicks will get beaten by a hellcat without slicks. Slicks don't even help out a 700 + HP monster like a hellcat, but people think that it will help out a stock 500 hp car. Why are people so ignorant with cars? They would all know that those big ass wheels steal horsepower...
for the up badging crisis, i feel the only scenario that would make sense is if you installed ALL of the components as the up badged model. Then again, if it’s not the exact same, you don’t deserve the upbadge
When I was younger (around 7 or so) dad bought a VL Calais (Holden) and swapped in a 383 stroker he built the motor and was making NA 550hp at the dyno, not sure what tires he had on it but it would break traction in almost every gear. I really wish he kept it but the cops would always pull him over for no reason and he got sick of it. He says it’s one of his biggest regrets.
I’ve said this before but I personally know of a church leader that buys classics and up-badges them to flip. That he was slick when I asked why he was doing it as he was doing it by saying, “the previous owner took them off I know this is “this” spec” feel bad for the poor saps that buy off him
how abt the jeep dealers selling their trucks with lift kits claimed to be 20k in value but when you try to return the truck they offer only what the trim is worth and pretend the lift kit isn’t even there
I had a totaled cobra and bought a v6 roller and swapped everything from the steering box to the k member all the way to the rear end including but not exclusively the badges
Ok, I gotta step in for the upbadging part. I 100% agree it basically never makes sense to do so. If you enjoy your car, enjoy it, don't try to lie to yourself or others. That being said: If you are building a replica of a movie or game car that is based on a 1 of 20 or some shit, or just wildly expensive, then the up badge to make it film accurate externally for me makes sense. But if people ask, I would say its important to be clear that it is NOT what it represents, for film accuracy. But that is a super small edge case and often on those famous cars, the badging is already removed or just not a critical part.
6:19 Buy a ZL1 which is basically a 1LE without the spoiler and the aero and put the same aero on it and bang you got a 1le basically so I think that's the only exception to that.
The Camaro SS is the Best one to purchase!!! It is nearly bone stock and by the pictures it looks well cared for. The wells can be swapped out for OEM wheels anytime.
Anyone from Canada would know that, that white Mustang that was upbadged was very fitting for being in Brampton. Wouldn’t be surprised if the car was salvage title as well
The only somewhat acceptable form of upbadging is for the newer LT1 Camaros. They have an optional RS package which is just a visual package. I took that badge off mine because people kept thinking it was a v6 but had to fill the blank space on the grill with something so I used the SS badge that came with my rear lip spoiler. Same exact car other than interior, front grill, wheels and some track cooling. Ill probably throw the RS badge back on when I install my supercharger just for the lols
If I was gonna buy the first car I would just look at it as a platform that I can do build the motor at least is stock. the outsides done for the most part just needs a different wrap its worth about 4000$
Maybe as a replica build of a car it makes sense to go badge something but then again u should keep it in the garage. If you don’t have the money then maybe.
Speaking about upbadging: i think if you engine swap a car that had no sports version, with an engine from a different car within the same brand that did come with a sports version, you now have the right to transfer those sports badges as well.
MAYBE if you buy a EK civic EX and b16 swap it with appropriate suspension mods. Or if you buy a 330i Estate and B58 swap it because the 340i Estate was never sold here.
the only time upbadging is acceptable imo is when its a funny upbadge. like shit that would never happen. been thinking abt putting trackhawk or srt badges on my stock ass jeep patriot
Regarding up-badging: It's still frowned-upon in the Subaru community, but the argument has been made that it might be ok to add a STi badge to a lesser-model WRX, Impreza or even other Subaru models if you install factory STi performance parts. For example, there is a STi rear hatch piece for the later models of Impreza hatchback that comes from Subaru with the STi logo on it. The argument is that "Subaru built it specifically for my Impreza, it was developed by STi, and comes from the factory as oem+ labeled as STi, so why should I remove the STi label?" I tend to agree that specific up-model parts get a pass for the badging. It's a different story if I put a single STi part on my Impreza then think I can put the STi badges in the factory locations on the body. I would compromise and say up-badging requires a certain subjective level of oem+ modding with parts from that higher model, and the up-badging should not mimic the full factory version of that higher model. There's bragging, then there's impersonating...
His point being “STi” the brand makes parts for basically all Subaru models, those parts are labeled STi and are genuine “STi” parts. If you start putting “STi” grill and trunk badges on your base model that’s corny. There’s a difference between “Subaru Technica international” the in-house performance brand, And WRX STi the car model.
Agree. You can and should add STi badges to a WRX as long as it has some STi specs. My WRX has an STi short throw shifter, red STi push button start and STi accents from the factory and I proudly replaced the WRX emblem with STi. Also my 22 is faster than previous gen STi in rolls so I feel no shame.
Only time up badging didn't bother me, is when for example someone takes an E46 wagon or sedan, and puts everything into it from the M3, engine, transmission, suspension, fenders, interior. sure it may be a 325IT. but nothing on the car besides the Body is is from the original car
if you have a super sleeper, like for example a 335I with M pack or idk what they call that shit and M badges, because he has a big turbo and makes more power than the M one, idk... (for upbadging)
