When you run stainless on stainless the prop becomes the part that wears out when sand and micro debri go through . So instead of replacing the WEAR ring as it wears now you will be buying a prop as well to get the clearances back. The latest spark plastic wear rings have many more and thicker reinforcment ribs if your worried about them breaking. Although an on board spare with tools is always a good idea for a quick on lake repair so you dont ruin your weekend.
The clearance between the impeller and wear ring are critical and should be tight as possible with no rub., the plastic wear ring by seadoo is cheaper for seadoo to make but dumb because it can scour easily with sand or rocks. IE run your spark carefully on a beach with engine off and avoid the shallows. Replacing the impeller and wear ring as a unit from solaris is best because they have matching clearances. Otherwise you could have clearance issues
Brian Glassman you're not wrong, but the I own both now and the stock wear ring, believe it or not, has a tighter seat. Downfall is with sand it will wear down quick. In my experience about 40 hours normal
Someone telling you jet ski are cheap? Fun = money, just ask sales, parts, service, gas, taxes and license. Do it right the first time. SOLAS stainless impeller with stainless wear ring...only way to go. It’s only money.
Israel Sanchez I've had stainless inner, stainless Solas and stock plastic. After testing all, it feels like the stock plastic has the best seat with the Solas 12/15. That's my opinion
Tippo. THANK YOU! I imagined it would cause some type of friction because it already makes contact with the plastic ones. And metal on metal would just cause forcing of the shaft I would think. Anyway hope more comments come!
@@seadoo4life727 yeah like im not a jet ski scientist or owt but a rock entering a pump housing with a solid steel ring and a flimsy $300 steel impellor is only gonna end 1 way. A rock steppin up to a flimsy $60 plastic ring is gonna save you $$$
Now instead of the $50 wear ring breaking when a rock gets sucked up you'll have to buy another $100 stainless steal wearing AND a $200 impellar......logic at its best ROFL!!!!
@@v1_rotate638 I split my stock plastic ring in the middle of the ICWW in NC in about 20 feet deep water when a large boat passed me. I could only do 5 MPH and for 2.5hours to get back and the one day I forgot sunscreen lol.

I just replaced my plastic wear ring with the Solas SS, and have a factory prop...perfect fit, no dragging.
Da_Mustacheo_Cat I noticed this, too!
Same here
Thank you for the vid
I went Stainless bout mine does not rub like that and mine went 2 miles faster
That is the POS stainless wear ring. Buy the good solas stainless wear ring.
joe I recommend the stock after using all types of rings. I can imagine the Solas Solas combo being better but I prefer the breaking point.
Travis pestrana
so the Yamahas do NOT have this problem with the wear rings?

Can someone make up their mind?? Stainless or plastic ?somebody please come up with a last good correct answer

Israel Sanchez agreed. Thanks for the props (pun intended)
Factory. Do not bother with the stainless. You suck up one rock and you’re done. You will destroy your impeller. They are made of plastic for reason.

It’s because you greased it
Bad idea
“Upgrade” to a Solas impeller? LOL

Craig Barsamian no just don’t start it in 3” of water? Not that difficult...
Craig Barsamian wait until you’re waist deep to start the ski

@@craigbarsamian9214 There's no screen because of technical reasons. Research it. I'm sure you broke it by abusing the machine.
1hr in blew out my ring ...i cant believe they dont have a screen or grate ...8500..piece of shit
User error.
Don’t use plastic ring mine just sunk today because of that garbage
Lol, what?
ThatGray24v You are a terrible liar
Was he using it as a hull bung?
@@theravedaddy LOL at the word "Bung" Yes, I know what a Hull bung is.
How the flying fuck did you "sink" a Spark with a shot wear ring that in no way connects to the inside of the transom??
