I'd like to point out a pro of the compost-based farms: they are the only ones that function while the chunks are loaded, opposed to the mob farm and fortress farm which needs a player within ±120 blocks. They also don't require a player to craft the bone meal from bones allowing for direct automation of bonemeal-using machines instead of batched supply from the player.
@@crankgames6284 When a player is 128 blocks away from a given position (easily 120 blocks from a spawning/killing floor), no hostile mobs can spawn therefore no (wither) skeletons to give bones. A composter-based farm only relies on redstone working (moss farm, nether fungus farm), or random ticks (pumpkin and melon farm for example) which carry the same proximity requirement of 128 blocks for a given position. Needless to say, any farm that is not loaded does not yield anything.
I agree... And automatic melon farm is probably the best for this, because it's relatively small (9x9) but it still produces 1.25 stacks of bonemeal an hour, without having to right click on it constantly. 40 pistons and 40 observers and the collections system, are bit steep if you're just starting out, but you can start with 3x3 and then slowly expand.

I think the self sustaining moss farm should be considered as it has decent rates, produces moss related stuff as a by-product, all of which are great decorating blocks that are otherwise annoying to obtain. Its also tillable, and easily built early game.
When you are earlier than the random 9 y.o kid who blesses you: (P.S Very Awesome Video! I think people underestimate the power of composter for bone meal though!)
Cacti farms are really underrated, and there's simpler designs w/o the gates. I built a larger one over time that's raking in a full SB every 3 minutes, and you can also use cacti for experience farms, which wasn't mentioned. No flying machines, least amount of lag using very little redstone, and can be built from day one in your game and expanded upon over time to feed all your generators.
I would recommend the mob grinder, it produces 6000 bonemeal per hour without the desert. The melon farm is good if you want a bit of bonemeal, a standart 9x9 one produces 100 bonemeal per hour. The skeleton spawner is also a great option if you wan’t to build the nims tree farm
Tip: if you have a iron farm compost all the poppys, you dont need much of them (at least i dont). I have Gnembons iron farm and i get much bonemeal. (And iron)
This is what I do since my iron farm is right next to my cactus-based bonemeal farm. Gets rid of the annoying flowers and the cactus outputs a steady, if small, amount of bonemeal on its own.
@@ItzSGXV Only if they're extremely close to the surface. I don't remember the exact numbers, but lighting the ground and making sure there are no caves in the ~10ish blocks below the ground should be enough.
I just used the kelp-farm from an xp-farm, and let the kelp run right into a chest, then the composter, and back into a chest. Works very well. VERY easy to build too :)
For those who are unaware, in 1.17 you can build an easily expandable farm for moss and other lush cave items which can be used as a composer farm to get around 320 bone meal per hour for each module. Ilmango just did a video regarding this, and it can even run passively in your spawn chunks or a portal loaded chunk.
My bonemeal farm is a stackable automatic potato farm powered by villagers. The potato is then smelted in a supersmelter that is self powered by a bamboo farm. The baked potato goes in to the composter and turns it into bonemeal ;) Baked potatoe is the 2nd best way (after cake and pie) to fill up a composter as shown at 0:30
You recommend us two farms for bone meal. In wither skeleton farm, you use looting III but in mob grinder farm you didn't use looting III because killing chamber is based on campfires but if you use looting III sword instead of campfires, it will probably produce more than 7155 bone meal per hour.
Wither skeleton is in my opinion the best, you get a lot of coal so your fuel problem is solved. You get a lot of bone meal and after afking there a lot you can basically use beacons as building blocks. If you use the design which doesn’t need any spawnproofing you van build this farm in like 1 or 2 hours from A to Z
You can easily solve fuel by creating a kelp farm. Much easier to build to say the least and then you can build a more efficient bonemeal farm such as the mob grinder instead although you still need to spawn proof the area around the mob grinder, it is much easier and gives gunpowder which is essential end game
I think the best bonemeal farm is a wither skeleton farm built in a soul sand valley ... you get tons of bonemeal and there is hardly any spawnproofing needed. The wither roses were not difficult to obtain in survival.
For the skeleton farm: Just add two Spider nets with two powder snow to get a stray farm. It will produce same stuff but instead of arrows about 10% are arrows of slowness
Me having a skeleton spawner farm and 3 double chest full of bones well, that is not a big thing for me Edit- mob grinder is good for java but i am a mCPE player 😶😶
