chapter 4 just started, so it´s too early to think which one is better, but talking about the grafics and sounds I will say capter 4 the only thing that was better in chapter 1 is how the flowing water looks
The OG just felt more ambient, mysterious and just very fresh. Now it doesn't feel the same way because not only has the audio quality changed throughout the years but also because we've gotten to know the game better.

because it isn't It very well isn't abandoned which is why characters, NPCs and the whole story exists in the world after the fall of the Seven instead of minor map changes and no humans or animals or really anything, they're starting to involve people in everything

Blame the fact that there's way too many heals in the game, sure it was annoying to die in storm because you had no heals but that's what made it a challenge and that's why it was fun to fight people who aren't always max shield popping 3 slurps in every fight, you actually had to use strategy to avoid dying but also kill other opponents, whereas now you just build a bunch of garbage and whoever edits faster immediately wins the game which is honestly so ridiculous considering what the game initially was
3:13 I still remember that on those swings many people were banned since you moved so fast that the system detected as if you were using speedhack, something that also happened with repeatedly opening and closing the hang glider.

Honestly speaking, both chapter 4 and chapter 1 have great sound design. For example, in chapter 4 the footstep audio changes depending on what kind of surface you're walking on (dirt, concrete, snow, grass), as well as if you're in the cave at shattered slabs you may notice that ALL the sounds become very reverby. Unfortunately though, you will see that they've simplified a lot of the sounds that made Fortnite Chapter 1 iconic. This includes the material break sound effects (wood, brick, metal), as well as doors, cash registers, fridges, etc. I personally wish that we could have detailed sounds for everything (a mix between chapters 1 and 4) but I'm still happy the developers added more with the new engine.
They actually had a specific design they made a video about looong time ago and it was a distinct style. I remember as skins started releasing more and more I was afraid they’d stray away from that design philosophy and little by little you could tell they were. Can’t find the video but they definitely had a design philosophy for everything in the game to be acutely made

Idk about anyone else, but to me the OG Fortnite just felt more unique. It had its own sounds it’s own thing. It didn’t try to copy other games in certain aspects. It was its own game, I remember my best friend at the time I was playing Destiny 1 and I was bored and I called him up and was like hey bro wanna hop on Destiny? He was like nah bro you gotta try out this new game called Fortnite, it’s Free! So I downloaded it and tried it and I fell in love. The colors the sounds, everything was so different and unique to that specific game. Now Fortnite has added to many things, don’t get me wrong some of them are cool, but it’s not unique, I feel like Fortnite is copying other games. And it doesn’t have its own uniqueness too it anymore.

I feel like they’ve over-saturated the game with movement mechanics and details within the ui. When things were simpler back then, I enjoyed the game a lot more. It also just used to run *smoother*, like I recently came back to the game, pressed shift, and my character went launching over a picnic table when I didn’t even want it to do that. I just loved the game how it was :/

Both have great design, but I feel as if some of the original sounds are slightly more present than they're now. I love the fact that things like door audio is spliced properly now and that different characters with different footwear have different sfx when traveling around, but I can't help but notice that the diversity in audio is somewhat lacking now, regardless of technical quality
The Scar during season 1 sounds so much better. It’s like the gun has a suppressor on it when you shot it and throughout the new seasons the scar now sounds like maracas shaking between both of your ears
bro chapter 1 looked and sounded so satisfying, nowadays the game just feels extremely cluttered and filled with random colors that don't match each other at all
Chapter 4 has improved in a few areas (example: water effects) however while the sounds in chapter 4 aren’t bad, chapter 1 has alot more realism and every prop has their own unique sound like fridges and police cars, but in chapter 4 that has just been erased entirely
You can see by the way the swings don't move and the water looks less real that they took out some of the unnecessary aspects of the game to improve performance. I don't think it was a change most of us noticed

Realism is what destroyed what we used to know as Fortnite. The original vision for the game was cartoonish characters in a vibrant world that had a unique, beautiful aesthetic and charm. Now, that feeling of fantasy has vanished completely. We are left with dull, hyperrealistic buildings and _too perfect_ foliage and scenery. No longer is it the goofy, imaginative world we used to know. Epic's worst mistake was eliminating Fortnite's identity.
Who knew those little things in 2018 were gonna mean so much to us in the future I remember 14 year old me in Feb of 2018 just got black knight before season 2 ended and that teen would have never thought the game he was playing he was going to miss so bad in 5 years time
I play since chapter 1, and I have to say that this chapter is the one that has better graphics and sounds the difference between chapters 2 and 3 were small, but man this chapter looks (and sounds) neat

As of working in audio for 13 years the biggest difference i can come up with is the use of 3D Audio and Compressed Audio. OG Fortnite didn't have compressed audio

i think the game did really good back then is because of how easy and simple it was to get into. now there so much you have to learn to do before playing its not going to be fun for new players.

the reason why swings are not moving in chapter 4 is bcs in chapter one it was easy to get banned from game by accidently glitching into the swings and that's why epic removed swings physics
I think part of why I remember the older versions so fondly was because of how much it felt like an adventure. I literally never got a solo win and still loved going to different spots each time around while just barely staying alive. I just hope they nerfed the damn movement mechanics when the OG map goes live. That is where a big step was lost honestly.
I really feel that the Fortnite of before is really starting to disappear especially with the change of graphic engine in Chapter 4. The Fortnite of now is not really Fortnite. Too many things have changed, Epic wants to make the game less cartoonish, more realistic but it is precisely this type of graphics (especially in Chapter 1) that we liked the most!

They got rid of so many important things like unique door sounds and breaking sounds, and also the swing set swinging.
bro chapter 1 looked and sounded so satisfying, nowadays the game just feels extremely cluttered and filled with random colors that don't match each other at all
They should allow you to get the OG sounds. Would be great to actually hear them again when playing the game.
OG graphics were so clean and crisp. Player model looks much better
Chapter 4 has improved in a few areas (example: water effects) however while the sounds in chapter 4 aren’t bad, chapter 1 has alot more realism and every prop has their own unique sound like fridges and police cars, but in chapter 4 that has just been erased entirely
You can see by the way the swings don't move and the water looks less real that they took out some of the unnecessary aspects of the game to improve performance. I don't think it was a change most of us noticed

Chapter 1 was simplistic, mysterious, and cartoony which gave it great character and that character and feel that it used to have just has faded since the end of chapter 1. Season OG has brought back some of that feel which is good though

Chapter 1 feels more ambient and less chaotic and just a lot better to look at in general, It has its signature feeling unlike chapter 4 where it just feels like another competitive game

No longer is it the goofy, imaginative world we used to know. Epic's worst mistake was eliminating Fortnite's identity.
Who knew those little things in 2018 were gonna mean so much to us in the future I remember 14 year old me in Feb of 2018 just got black knight before season 2 ended and that teen would have never thought the game he was playing he was going to miss so bad in 5 years time

And chapter 2 were actually better (my opinnion) that chapter 1 and 3, but we cant say anything by now about chapter 4 because we are only on the first season (if I had to compare this chapter start with chapter 2 and 3 start I would say it's better that chapter 2 but worse that chapter 3)

As of working in audio for 13 years the biggest difference i can come up with is the use of 3D Audio and Compressed Audio. OG Fortnite didn't have compressed audio

the reason why swings are not moving in chapter 4 is bcs in chapter one it was easy to get banned from game by accidently glitching into the swings and that's why epic removed swings physics

I think part of why I remember the older versions so fondly was because of how much it felt like an adventure. I literally never got a solo win and still loved going to different spots each time around while just barely staying alive.
I just hope they nerfed the damn movement mechanics when the OG map goes live. That is where a big step was lost honestly.
I really feel that the Fortnite of before is really starting to disappear especially with the change of graphic engine in Chapter 4.

Too many things have changed, Epic wants to make the game less cartoonish, more realistic but it is precisely this type of graphics (especially in Chapter 1) that we liked the most!
