I mean - the asset is still valuable. You would still draft Bedard even if he told you in advance he wouldn’t sign with your team, because he’s the most valuable asset. An extreme example but you get my point.
his situation is different. because he's a college player he committed to two more years at bc. most teams never have this problem. the only ones that come to mind are this guy and lindros. were i the owner i would do what quebec did, wait him out. they own his rights for a certain length of time so let him waste his career. i also would have refused to trade him till he showed his face and told me why. you own his rights and you don't have to pay him. f him let him rot for a couple of seasons.
I think If you wait to trade him, and force him to go back to college, you make it even more apparent to the league that he doesn’t want to sign and you lose all of your leverage. Kudos to the Flyers for getting something of value for him while they could.
Tortorella changed the Flyers from the 4th worst team in the NHL to a playoff team that can beat anybody in 2 years. The Anaheim Ducks on the other hand suck and will continue to suck.
Really? Apparently they did not thoroughly vet their draft pick. And look at this trade. Don't you think Philly already has a good to strong crop of d-men in the system? They should have swapped Cutter for a young guy who can score. It's like they just wanted to ship him to Anaheim as some sort of penalty, and did not care what they got in return. I mean maybe the draft pick pans out, but this trade doesn't look great on the surface. I don't agree that Philly has great leadership. I think, at very least, the jury is still out, but this situation does not look good.
