4 years ago I felt lost, even though society had clearly paved the path for me. I was 17 and living in Stockholm Sweden. After seeing the documentary "Alone in the wilderness" by Dick Proenneke, I became completely obsessed with the idea of just packing a rucksack of hand tools and wondering off into the vast forest of Sweden to create my own life, living off the land and build a log cabin. I found my meaning, but I was still in high school. My Grandparents owned forest so I started spending more and more time with them every weekend, wandering out, dreaming of my obsession and asking for advise. I had absolutely no prior knowledge of anything how I was going to do this, just the obsession to learn. When I turned 18 I told everyone of my plans. I received a gopro camera from my parents, so I could at least film some of my adventures. I hadn't even thought about filming anything but I did so and am I glad I did. It is a long story from here of hard work, pain, cold, making many many mistakes and figuring out how to solve problems all alone by trial and error. But I finally built the cabin all alone after 3 years. Along the way I also became passionate in filmmaking, so I invested in a better camera. The whole journey is filmed on a tripod and edited by me, which was lets just say a struggle (I am insane). Some people will doubt this and say I had a film crew and construction team, which I just take as a big complement. I know my journey and I hope to inspire others the same way Dick Proenneke inspired me.
Not only did he build that log cabin, which is mindblowing yet alone. He also documented everything in the most wonderful way. Just imagine how much work alone he had with positioning his GoPro on all those different places before he could actually work.
Потом придут какие нибудь.... подождут все его труды.ПОСМОТРИТЕ ролики "Лесные"- Ребята трудились 2 е кода все было сделано,пришли "хорошие "люди-подржгли и все сгорело до тла

This is the longest youtube video I have ever watched. At first I was sad, it seemed the guy was so sad and alone. Then I watched more and I was impressed, so many things had to be done and none of it looked easy. At the end I teared up when I seen his family and friends show up, I haven't teared up in 15 years. It was nice knowing he had people who loved him.
What makes this so unique is the fact that there's no blaring music. It's just the sounds of nature and someone building a cabin. Honestly at first: I thought it was gonna be boring but I somehow got really hooked.
No need for music here. These sounds are so relaxing because they are natural to us, the sounds of nature are in harmony. The sounds of the city are in disharmony, they are unnatural and cause us stress. Noise pollution is terrible to humans, animals and the environment.
@@russelltackett4779 Eh, a big war isn't the collapse yet. But we're on the brink of things about to get really hard where we'll envy the fellows who can just live in a cabin off the grid
The man has carpenting, forging, farming, and cooking skills, and he knows how to build a house from scratch, not to mention the persistence and character strengths he gained along the way. You're such a talented person. Congratulations on your project!
I think something I love about this is that he didn't force himself to have to rely on everything from nature, it looks like maybe his grandparents or himself went out and bought some things to help him on his journey, like tools and concrete powder and other helpful survival equipment, even a razor to cut his hair. It just makes it feel more realistic in a sense, and he is very open about the tools he used showing them in many camera shots clearly and demonstrating the use. This is just a masterpiece of his entire 3 year journey, so much respect.
If the point is to build a log cabin, it doesn't mean you have to make the tools yourself or anything like that. My Self Reliance -channel is also a good example of that. Obviously you can use whatever tools and lifting equipment you feel comfortable with. For many of these guys it's the process of building a cabin by hand. Not to be some 100% primitive all from nature kind of a -channel, which usually are also fake as fuck. Huge respect to these guys doing something like this and enjoying the nature while they're at it.
What I love about this story is it seems his family were so supportive of it and were just like "Yeah go be yourself, here's a camera to film it for us so we can see it being built" 😆 That's so awesome to me.
Not just the cabin was amazing, but the transformation of your body, and the relationship between you and your dog is absolutely incredible. Feel like I got to know you as an actual person.

This is a gorgeously filmed videography of Erik’s passion project, the evidently solo undertaking of a young man constructing a log cabin over a 3 year period, mostly from the raw materials Mother Nature provided him via a dense forest in Sweden. The locale with its seasonal variations is achingly beautiful, and the scope of the step by step tasks he undertakes to craft his beautiful, very sturdy cabin nearly beggars belief that ONE MAN could have done it all-and yet I’m clear that he did. And Lord have mercy, what a varied set of skill sets he has a mastery of: carpenter, lumberjack, architect, stone mason, blacksmith, welder, bricklayer, roofer, and oh yeah-wilderness hunter, fisherman and outback chef. The final result is such a masterpiece of a log cabin, it leaves me wanting to know: did he have all these skills under his belt by his late teens, or was he an autodidact who systematically taught himself the mastery of all the tools as he went along? Either way, the end result here is a superbly filmed story that, wonder of wonders, has no musical soundtrack, but rather allows nature to provide the natural sound score, with the accompaniment of a deeply devoted, sweet natured pooch who is clearly having a ball hanging out with his master 24/7 for the duration of this truly marvelous and wonderful adventure. Erik’s film of his passion project is quite simply one of the best movies I’ve ever seen and enjoyed, and I’m a serious movie buff. One thing is clear: whoever ends up being Erik’s life partner will never lack for warm shelter, adventure or delicious wilderness gourmet dining. And PS: hats off and shout out to the family who raised such a vastly talented wunderkind of a young man! Talk about being brought up well! Thanks to them for bringing this mega-talented bloke into this world. 👊💥🙌
I want to ask this amazing young man if he was inspired by Richard Proenneke. In 1967, Richard Proenneke, at the age of 51, retired and moved to Twin Lakes alaska. He built a log cabin from scratch and lived in it for 30 years before his death in 1999. Richard used a special 8mm camera that could be hand cranked, allowing for 20-second shots without electricity. That 8mm footage was cut into a documentary called "Alone in the Wilderness." If erik isn't paying homage to Richard, this would be a coincidence of epic proportion. The techniques they use are identical. Both did all of it from the surrounding raw materals found on their soon to be homestead. For both, it was a solo project with limited outside tools (Hatchet, saw, tent, cooking materials.) Both had a dog and lived off the land, hunting, gathering and limited store bought essential food supply. Both trapped and used pelts for clothing, beding, etc. But the one major connection erik displayed that immediately made me think Richard Proenneke is the way erik filmed and edited his video. Richard was limited to 20-second silent clips. He would crank his camera, set it down, and film himself, building his log cabin by hand. Richards doc. consists of thos 20 second 8mm shots edited together to make a cohesive story come to life. Erik shot this video in HD, but every clip and scene is 20 seconds long. At first, i thought Erik created an HD version of Ricards 8mm crank camera. But i don't think that's what happened. I think Erik purposefully filmed it that way as a homage to richard. 20 shots cut together to show progress is such a distinctive look and feel. It can't be just a coincidence, right?
@Owen Jones i wonder if his grandpa was influenced by Richard Proenneke? I would think his grandpa was born in the 50s or 60s. His grandpa would have been around eriks age when Richards book "One Mans Wilderness" was realsed in 1973.
I love watching people build things while mostly using their own elbow grease and ingenuity but this one really takes the cake. I think because your editing skills are phenomenal also - it is not repetitive and moves through the job at a pace without leaving too many "how did he do that?". Absolutely stunning!! I love your Wim Hof-style swims

I think it's safe to say that as someone feeling a little drained by this social media driven world, this life looks incredible. Great work and beautiful cinematography.
This is the most impressive thing i have seen, the amount of effort, skill and dedication that this would have took is crazy. I couldn't do this in a million years with electric tools and you did it all by hand!!! BRAVO
This video has been saved to my favorites list. Eventhough I looked foward to and watched every single one posted, as they were uploaded, watching this well edited compilation is nonetheless as interesting and entertaining. As with each of the individual vids, to this day I remain impressed at this talented and skilled young man. Having been a carpenter and a builder most of my adult life, I can easily see how much effort went into actually building his cabin. All that and the editing atop of it all, I am sincere when I say, "Very well done, Erik and thank you for sharing it all"!
Who would've thought that the most impressive and entertaining RUclips video I'd watch all year would have zero music, (almost) zero dialogue, and very limited "special" editing. Definitely watching this again in the future many times over, as it's simply so relaxing and unique.

First time here watching your videos from the UK, and they're so remarkably well done. Not only you are showcasing your multitude skillsets, but also the amazing wildlife, which I'm totally in love with. Back to Basic is the way of life to which I am accustomed because of where I'm originally from in the South Pacific - New-Caledonia. I'm still in awe of how talented you are! Merci beaucoup Erik Grankvist de partager la beaute de ton pays natale. God bless you and your family and again, thank you.
You’re videos should honestly win awards. I’ve never seen so much effort into making a video and to build a cabin completely by yourself is an astounding accomplishment. If there were a billion humans like you on Earth, we would live in a Utopia.
there is no doubt, that he did the most work on it. Still, with 18 to 21, you don't have so much knowledge about house building, all the different tools, techniques, etc. he might have had some knowledge before if he did an apprenticeship with 16, but even then that would only cover the very basics.
I can't remember feeling so at peace and calm as I did watching this for a long time. Thank you. You certainly made a dream come true one that many people probably have at some point but would never actually attempt let alone end up finishing. Mad respect.
This is the most I impressive achievement I’ve ever seen a young man do with his hands and determination. Thank you for sharing, I must say very therapeutic to watch as well and gave me back my drive while i was in a depression state and wanted to say thank you 🙏🏾. I pray many blessings over you and your log cabin and may the lord shield you always
This has to be one of if not the best RUclips video I have ever seen! If more kids (people in general) only realized what could be accomplished with patience, time, and self confidence, the world would be alot different. Cheers to you!
Some people is plain stupid, all what he does in the video is incredible, OK. But thinking that all the support he gets from his family (a fucking HUGE terrain in the woods), is something that everyone can have, YOU'RE FUCKING DELUSIONAL.
The soundscape is sublime - sawing, chopping, birds tweeting. Too good, Erik - and not a word spoken. Your skills as a builder and videographer are A+. Cheers!
Quite possibly the best thing I've ever watched on RUclips for so many reasons. My hat is off to you Eric. Very, very inspirational. Thank you for providing the world with such great content!
I'm so envious of your courage to just seize your dream with both hands as so many of us are too anxious to do. I'm also impressed with the perseverance and ability shown in this video. You're a singular inspiration.
Please tell me there is some kind of award for the best RUclips video of the year because this 100% deserves every award possible. The work involved in the cabin, the work in the filming, editing, and the simple joy of seeing craftsmanship is simply amazing.

This is just a masterpiece of his entire 3 year journey, so much respect.
ye its nice to watch something like this thats not 1 of the fake "prim building" channels
I gotta agree with this in every way. It was my favorite part.
True. It’s powerful
It's all a ruse, but a good story nonetheless ❤️
What I love about this story is it seems his family were so supportive of it and were just like "Yeah go be yourself, here's a camera to film it for us so we can see it being built" 😆 That's so awesome to me.
maybe he does not have a fam :/
not only a camera but a lot of money as well :D
Not just the cabin was amazing, but the transformation of your body, and the relationship between you and your dog is absolutely incredible. Feel like I got to know you as an actual person.

What he did was amazing, really, but absolutely not sustainable, not even scalable.

@@Calminious how
I want to ask this amazing young man if he was inspired by Richard Proenneke.
But the one major connection erik displayed that immediately made me think
Richard Proenneke is the way erik filmed and edited his video. It can't be just a coincidence, right?
he learned a ton of this from his grandpa
@Owen Jones i wonder if his grandpa was influenced by Richard Proenneke? I would think his grandpa was born in the 50s or 60s. His grandpa would have been around eriks age when Richards book "One Mans Wilderness" was realsed in 1973.
