Great video. I don't have nor do I plan to have a 39 transmission. However, I do have an 51 Ford transmission (3sp w/od). I enjoy learning how things work and transmissions are one realm of automotive work that I've not yet tried to repair. One of these days I will need to and videos like this give a guy a little confidence. thanks

I have the 48-7006 transmission (that you will be rebuilding for me very soon) with a 9" clutch. Can I upgrade to a larger clutch (10-11" for example) with out having to drill my flywheel? I'b be thrilled to be able to upgrade to the 10" clutch if it's a simple bolt-on upgrade. Thanks

Of the 3 roller bearings; the 2 short go in the cluster and the long one goes in the input shaft. My problem is the main shaft seems to hit the input shaft bearing and lacked approx 1/8" from going home. What am I missing?

it sounds like the rear suspension or even the crossmember could have a problem, my guess is that the torque tube is jamming up into the transmission and putting it under a lot of pressure, I would try loosening the engine mounts and trans mounts and see if you can push the engine forward any

The weird but true answer is that it’s pretty much the same but a little different, the 39 will have a better shift tower, better gear ratio, and synchronized 2nd and 3rd, also the earlier transmissions will have straight cut gears opposed to helical cut gears, as far as disassembly, and rebuilding, they are almost exactly he same
