He’s based off of the French book “The Count of Monte Cristo”, finished in 1844.
Dantes was a kind lad, until he was framed for treason on the night of his wedding and sent to prison for over a decade. Meanwhile, the culprits stole his job, his life, and his soon-to-be wife Mercedes. He meets a genius priest, the Abbe Faria, in prison and spends the years training and learning. He eventually busts out and digs up the priest’s buried treasure. Now incredibly rich, knowledgeable, and skilled, he spends another decade traveling the world, setting up pawns and pieces as part of his plan to bring utter ruin to the people who framed him. He succeeds all too well, and eventually comes to realize that he went too far. He finds love and forgiveness, and finally rides off into the sunset with his former slave/orphaned princess/adopted daughter/new lover Haydee.
In Fate, it’s similar. Now, Faria’s buried treasure includes the poisoned black flames of hell which incinerate even souls, which Dantes uses to permanently kill Roa as part of his new sidequest to take down Abbe Faria’s enemies.
As a Servant, he is stuck in the revenge part of his life, unable to reach his happy ending. Through sheer willpower, he also developed the ability to escape any prison, including the prison of his own body as well as space and time, letting him move fast enough to look like he’s stopping time. While not a main character, he’s the kind of person to help out from the shadows, occasionally showing up when all seems lost to help turn things around.

He's fighting style, like claws and fire, remind me of Iori from The King of Fighters series.
Not as much claws, just fire, he can kinda control it to do anything from punch you in the face to becoming a beam.
His Arc Drive where he holds the opponent in a double grip is definitely a reference to Iori, plus he has a Raging Storm super.
Been looking for this comment! Iori is the first character that I thought of when I saw The Count's trailer.
MY FAVORITE FGO SERVANT!!! I'm so happy there's a fighting game version of him. He has dethroned my favorite fighting game character ever - Setsuna from The Last Blade.

The Count of Monte Cristo is kind of a household name for revenge novels...it doesn't normally have black fire beams though.
@@natchu96 If i remember right in Nasuverse these "Black Flames" is a "Treasures of Monte Cristo" that was passed down by Church (in other words some sort of form of Apocrypha), that's how living Edmond was able to kill Roa's soul in Fate timelines and now it manifested within him in Avenger (Heroic Spirit Servant of the Extra Class) form.

Each DLC character has had a bit more detail, as I think the artists are developing and honing their techniques for the TL setting and art style. All I can say is they're KILLING IT.

Man, I remember back when Dantes was first announced to be in FGO, and we all joked about how his NP was gonna involve a spoon.
Though that person who started it did misremember or something, since Dantès never used a spoon to escape prison. The main thing Dantès uses spoons for is drugs, hashish specifically.

Not only did Dante murder killed Roa it was one of his stronger incarnation at that as well the first Avenger still bodied his undying ass took one of his lives on his own that not even Arcueid managed to do without some help .

Dantes beat a pretty meh version of Roa from the Fate timeline. The Fate version of Roa never met Arcueid in the first place, putting him far lower in status and power compared to his Tsukihime version. It's stated that his Original Body was his strongest version, followed by Elesia (Ciel) and SHIKI. Every other version of him pales in comparison. And outside of his OG body, Elesia and SHIKI Arcueid never had trouble killing Roa.
She killed OG Body Roa by unknown means and teaming up with the church.
Elesia depends on canon. In OG Tsukihime Arcueid didn't have too much trouble beating Roa-Elesia. In Remake canon it's stated by Ciel that she was about to beat Arcueid. The difference is that in the Remake version of the "french village incident" other DA (and probably DAA too) were present and ganged up on Arcueid. In OG it was just a 1:1 fight between Arc and Roa-Elesia.
And SHIKI-Roa took advantage of the connection between him, Akiha and (especially) Shiki to weaken Arcueid to the point even he can beat her. All three Tsukihime versions of Roa are far more powerful than the Tarantula guy Edmond Dantes fought thus making his feat of beating Roa way less impressive than one might think.
Tarantella wasn't even close to being one of the strongest Roa incarnations. What are you even talking about? Also Dantes simply had an adequate ability that could kill Roa's soul much like the Seventh Holy Scripture. Killing Roa for good is not a matter of strength.
Also the only time Arcueid needed help was with the first Roa incarnation, which Tarantella isn't even comparable to.

Remember Dantes was an ordinary human when fighting Tarantella.
Avenger Dantes is a servant with a NP that lets him move outside of space-time or accelerate at the speed of thought, so Tsukihime Roa being stronger makes up for it.

It's the name of the first japanese translation. It was a hit so the name kind of stuck there.
Yeah they even had an anime made about him some decade and a half ago with the same name, which is where I heard it first.
Yes, the Gonzo version is the anime I was referring to in my post. Seems the name stems from Ruika Kuroiwa's 1901 adaptation of the original novel and has become synonymous with the Count of Monte Cristo in Japan ever since as stated by Captain History.

Still, I'd argue the powerup is higher for Roa.
He has Arcueid's power plus the knowledge he accumulated comes from a world where vampires are stronger as a whole.
One of the things subtly changed about Roa in Remake is that Nasu has went from 'he grows weaker and weaker and more deteriorated with each reincarnation' to 'Roa actively studies new things each time he gets a new body and is stronger every time he awakens in at least some way'. In fact, Roa boasts that his current incarnation (SHIKI! Yes, you heard right) is the strongest he's been yet, and that he could have defeated Arcueid even if she was in peak condition. It's possible he believes this because of the new eyes he's acquired but... Elesia was pretty fucking strong, yeah?

I think Roa is stronger, but Dantes has an actual counter to him AND could use his ability as a servant to attack him without repercussions. But that change honestly screw up my idea a bit. At this point IDK. I still see Dante has a good chance of winning, Servants are bonkers, but i think it would be harder

Prime Roa (OG Body) Godstomps everything in Fate except maybe FGO and Fate/Extra high tiers. It was stated that he was the most powerful Dead Apostle in his prime to the point even other DAA were insignificant to him.
He beat Altrouge (Arcueid's sister) who not only is the master of Primate Murder (Tsukihime-timeline version of Fou) but gave Zepia his Tatari powers (what allows him to copy 30% of Arc's power as Warcueid). That puts him leagues and miles above Dantes.
Prime Roa (OG Body) > Altrouge > Primate Murder (Beast IV) > Base Arcueid=Tatari Warcueid > Edmond Dantes (Avenger)

It would have made more sense to do that then release a fighting game advertising a unfinished visual novel that isn't even translated for majority of the world.
That was French bread idea, but TM wanted to use Melty to lure people to play Tsukihime remake. But, since they had so much material for FGO characters they used it as free DLCs. I honestly hope we will get a 100% FGO fighting game
