  • Learning with my brother series: We are introduced to the industrial "Allbook & Hashfield Cupseamer model F, low-lift" by Alan Williams who worked at Clarke’s in the UK for his career years and now does industrial sewing machine repair in Andalucia, Spain (Seweazi).
The models include F low-lift, CSS and SF. Cupseamers are used to do seaming. The F model is specifically for making gloves. With cupseamers, you can lay your leather together and sew the edges (almost like a blanket stitch, without having to deal with an inseam. Then, you snap off the threads and flatten out the leather. No skiving, no inseams. The CSS and SF models are for working with heavy leather or sheepskin. Alan explains how it works and we discuss the benefits over a flatbed and the fact that is was purchased on eBay for about 200 quid.
Next, we are looking at all the cams in the cupseamer: looper movement forward and backwards; the needle bar; feed movement.
You cannot take them apart without taking everything off the bar. When you put Humpty together again, you have to be really careful. It was purchased on Ebay for 200 Quid. It is used on lighter leathers, specifically for making gloves.
A closer look at the Allbook & Hashfield Cupseamer, Model F which is for seaming:
The machines were made in London, England. They are used for seaming, flat seaming without a seam allowance or skiving. It is used on lighter leathers, specifically for making gloves. The CSS and SF models are used for heavier work such as sheepskin.
