Been keeping this a secret for almost a week now Since living in Germany and not having access to afro hair professionals- I have realized that my hair has become a mentally draining and exhausting task for me. I wanted to ask why, but here it is. 😁 I've always liked short haircuts on women and it suits you too. But I think that unlike men, all women can wear so short. You all have the head shape for this style. 5:15 sieht auch klasse aus.
GIRL!!! You look great!! I shaved my head in October of 2020 and it was a game changer!!!! And yes... you can always start over and come back... AND AGREE --- THE SHOWER IS AMAZING!!!
Yes cuz of our type - trust it hair will grow back sooo fast. Mine came back 6 inches in a year!!! And now its gotten down to my shoulders in 16 months. I have massive amounts of gray and I am ROCKING IT... PS - YOU DO NOT LOOK LIKE A BOY... and if they mistake you for a guy.... have fun with it. It always an honest mistake due to "westernization"... ;-)

As a dude who's cut his own hair (buzzcut style) for 20 years, welcome to the wonderful world of _easy_ . Near zero maintenance, no hat hair, no morning hair, no nothing. Even as a male I've saved thousands in money and time. And by the way, didn't see it from the back properly, but you have a great skull shape for buzz cuts. I'm almost a bit jealous.

Beautiful, stunning. Afro hair is not easy in Germany. It is expensive and time consuming because we have a lack of salons and products. You have plenty of good reasons (including your time) to have made this choice. I am so proud of your confidence!! You look like a queen. So fierce!! Love you friend!
I am not condoning the lack of such salons, but it is an outgrowth of the market situation here. The number of people with a naturally occuring 4(a to c) hair structure simply is not the average here. It is just part of the demographics. Yes, I know that people with that hair type have grown more numerous over the years, I completely understand that it is a struggle to find the correct products and services for that hairtype. Market forces take some time to adjust to a slow but signficant demographic change. I've been campaigning in multiple of the salons I've been going to by implanting the seeds for thought about those hair types and services. No, I don't have that hair type, I'm a typical north European caucasian with type 1 hair, straight, brownish-blond-boring, just sooo stereotypically German.
Mike was right though: your face really comes through now and you look fabulous. plus you have the headshape to wear it. oh and for the being taken for the wrong gender: i'm a fairly feminine guy and get taken for a girl at times. i have found it much more fun to not immediately correct them and just watch them melt into a puddle of embarassment when they find out themselves 😈
OMG looks fantastic! I also shaved my hair when I was 17 and wore it like that for 2 years. I really enjoyed it, and going under the shower... I sometimes think of shaving my hair again just for that experience🤣 I also felt the pressure of putting on make up, because others would say things like "mannsweib" or other nasty stuff. With a shaved head ones beautiful face becomes more attention ☺

Frankly, you look really amazing in your new haircut. You and Mike just remind me of my girlfriend and myself. 2yrs ago we lived in Munich and I shaved her hair too due to same reasons. For me it's absolutely awesome but I think it takes alot of courage for a woman to take such a step.

You look so amazing! The shaved head/gold hoop really is your look! As someone who has shaved her hair twice I know how liberating it feels and the first shower, feeling water directly on your scalp really is something else. Funnily enough I have never suffered with dandruff until I shaved my head. In my case I think my hair was somewhat of a protection for my scalp, maybe slapping shampoo straight on the scalp dried it out a lot but I learnt how to practise good scalp care and treated it with different oils.
I am in Thailand and the hairdresser prices here are unbelievably low. wash and blow-dry your hair: 6 euros hair straightening/keratin: 60 euros hair coloring: 20 euros but no hairdresser would shave a woman's hair, only partially. dandruff is the result of improper diet and excessive use of shampoo and care products and washing too often

They were always working and out in the fields and forests. i also have a ton of hair. Okay I’ve been wanting to ask you this for a while - maybe I should message you but I know you have as many messages or more than me to answer! Haha so - as a curly girl myself (though definitely not Type 4 texture) - have you considered just letting your hair go curly and no longer straightening it? Because straightening is sooo damaging to the hair. Now you’re starting with a completely clean slate! There are many women with your same type of hair on Instagram who give tutorials on how to wear your hair curly. I used to have a very active Instagram account for teaching women how to take care of curly hair myself. Anyway, if you go curly it’s a helluva a lot cheaper and it’ll be gorgeous! It’s also freeing. 💕
As a 66 years old Dutch caucasian male, with as I've been told many times by various hairdressers, "a lot of dense hair", I refuse to pay more than €30 for a bi-monthly haircut... The prices you quote are insane....
You became so natural in Germany and this is the "i-Tüpfelchen"! You look great!!! And it is so money and time saving! Imagine to cuddle with Mike every minute you save drying and doing your hair!!!. My hair trimmer (or professional ones in a "Salon") can be adjusted to 6, 8, 10 mm etc. I take 6 mm every 5 months. In a "Salon" such a hair cut costs me 15 bucks.
I think you look fabulous. Personally, when I shaved me head I found that my exchanges with people seemed greatly improved. I've been told this is so since people tend to look more directly into your eyes.
Did the same thing in high-school and again when I was 25 years old when my hair was fried after many years. You can rock anything with your beautiful face! I'm sure you feel liberated!! 🤎I love it!
Yeah... me too! I have talked about it openly since 2016- I have just been afraid of what it would look like and hating the result. I am starting a new chapter- leaving my 20's and hair behind this year ;)

When my dad saw my mum for the first time after she shaved her head prior to going into chemo he just looked at her and said: "Your skull looks so beautiful. So beautiful. I knew it would look amazing!" And he meant it. He kept telling everyone how lovely he thought she looked and that no one should be afraid to shave their head.
Hello Hayley, your new haircut looks great. Most women would have nightmares cutting their hair so short, but it looks great. It reminds me a bit of the actress Jean Seberg. Since I have a buzz cut for over 40 years, from experience I can tell you cut it to about 12mm and let it grow another 12mm until the next cut, you will feel comfortable within this zone. You may have noticed you can save some time in the morning since drying your hair takes now just the walk from the bathroom to the kitchen.

I always wanted to experience a shaved head because my hair is super warm, thick, and heavy and it's so not cool during the summertime. *WOW* You were brave! I hope you still enjoy your shaved head. It remains me of STAR TREK 1 (1979) It was Persis Khambatta in the role of Lieutenant Ilia from the U.S.S. Enterprise who had an iconic role in this flick. Her head was shaved bold to symbolize she received total knowledge by now. Anyway you are still looking good but it is a pity that you can't have proper access to afro hair profs here. One of my female colleagues have the same problem in the Area of Karlsruhe but for what you have a family 😉. You look so cool! Great decision! Btw in the city where Iam from people with this hair structure often go to a barbershop owned by an eritrean or somalian for braids and such. There's such a shop in every bigger city I've been to. Often called "afroshop" or something like this. They often sell special african cultural things and for some reason cellphone cases aswell. Whatever, great decision, you have a good headshape for a full shave.
My wife (with pretty thick 4C hair) recently got micro-locks. She had the big chop 2-3 years ago, and she was only JUST able to get it done, so you'll have to wait a bit, but its honestly been a great investment for her. She used to have to spend, easily, an hour a day styling it in the morning, and/or braiding/platting/twisting it in the evening. Now she just stuffs it in a silk bonnet at night, and tease it a bit in the morning. Now... every 6 weeks or so, she DOES have to get them re-tightened, but she still *loves* her decision.
You are 100% correct about everything when it comes to shaving your head! I shaved my head years ago and it was the first time that my head ever met raw air like that. Even as a baby I was born with a full head of thick hair! It was the most exhilarating feeling! Because having thick, Afro-texture hair you never know what’s underneath until you shave it all off… then it grew back so quickly.

Für die Zukunft würde ich aber regelmäßiger die Spitzen schneiden ( lassen). Du hattest nämlich viel Spliss, wie ich dir schon mal vor etlichen Monaten geschrieben habe. Wenn die Haare sich spalten, wachsen sie auch nicht mehr länger, aber es tut ihnen nicht gut. Du könntest auch noch bei weiteren Haarsalons nach deren Preisen fragen. Ich kann mir irgendwie nicht vorstellen, dass ein Haarschnitt für Afrohaar überall dermaßen überteuert ist. Jetzt erst mal viel Spaß mit der neuen Leichtigkeit!

Welcome to the club. Also have very thick hair and always had it long. I mean long long, to the knees. Everyone always "you can't cut that hair". So 2 years ago I decided to shave. I'll never go back. It feels awesome.
From your story about hairdresser prices, now i understand better why so many black girls seem to wear wigs... Although i have to say, i always admire women that rock their natural hair (meaning, unstraightened for black women), that rock short hair, or a buzzcut like yourself. This shows confidence, and to me there is nothing sexier than confidence. By the way, averaging my barber's haircut prices and how often i go there, i spend no more than ten bucks a month on my hair (costs for shampoo and warm water not included, but can't be that much). The prices that some women are willing to pay are unfathomable.
Hayley, you are comfortable with your decision, that's the main thing! I myself also wear long hair (natural honey blonde hair) and therefore know how much time and care it takes to wear the hair pretty well-groomed. With you, there was also the problem that it is still difficult to find a good hairdresser for African-American hair here in Germany. 700 dollars for a hairstyle, that's really a lot of money! But it doesn't matter for which hairstyle you decide in the future: You will always look pretty and no one will mistake you for a boy! 💐😀
I don’t blame you. It looks fantastic. I stopped paying a few years ago. First I found a great hairdresser at a cheaper place, under 20€, but she’s moved. So I cut it myself and I am happy. It isn’t perfect but it’s quick and free.
I have realised that hair is not supposed to be perfect...... I am happy with my cheap at home hair cut. It could be a little nicer but at the end of the day it was free LOL
The razor is trying itsbest to cut the afro hair haha also to hear you say "Mike" makes me want to look around lol Sometimes your hair just need a restart and fresh growth. 100-200€ more?! WTF? Wow damn... this is sick! But on the same hand I'm a guy, I just get short buzz and done. And it's so true! Even my granny always says, it doesn't look like you have much hair on your head, then I tell her it just looks like it isn't much lol Afro hair is much different XD But the looks suits you, really!
Now that was unexpected! Different, but good! As you said, a little more would be better, I think, maybe 10-20mm or so. Looks and costs aside, the new style will definitely help with the morning routine! While your hair is that short, use the still often gray days to go out without covering you head, so the skin can get used to sunlight slowly. It´ll be cold, but you´ll get used to it! I haven´t used a hairdryer for over three decades now, no matter how cold it was, showered, got dressed, went out, no problem at all. Hair´s getting thinner though, now sun´s becoming a problem.
You look terrific! I have very thin hair and need to keep it short so it doesn’t go completely flat. The only good thing about my hair is that each individual strand of hair is not fine and it has a fine curl to it. It is sandy colored and I got the color from my father ( a Dane with the original Danish Afro!) and the thinness from my mother. Always wished I had his thick hair but never thought how that might have problems too. My father was over 40 when I was born so I only saw that thick hair in pictures.

Hey, you look great without hair! But if you want a different style, for going out for instance, you can always get a couple of cool wigs. A client of mine with Afro hair had this amazing collection of wigs. And since her hair was very short, these wigs weren't too hot or uncomfortable. I'm sure there also are good quality used wigs available.
Omg so true! Wigs for a blond hair look are The Smart Way, truly. It would not surprise me one bit, if in like 100 years the people looking back at the practice of regular toxic exposure to change hair color, will think like we do today about the use of lead and arsenic in cosmetics of the past...

Looks great on you! It will help you with the dandruff as well. Worked for me. Always make sure the skin on your head can breathe to keep it healthy.

As a 66 years old Dutch caucasian male, with as I've been told many times by various hairdressers, "a lot of dense hair", I refuse to pay more than €30 for a bi-monthly haircut...

I have never in my life taken a complete shower in 5 minutes... Just to wash my hair took 30+ minutes... I am amazed at how much time I will be saving
You became so natural in Germany and this is the "i-Tüpfelchen"! You look great!!! And it is so money and time saving! Imagine to cuddle with Mike every minute you save drying and doing your hair!!!.
My hair trimmer (or professional ones in a "Salon") can be adjusted to 6, 8, 10 mm etc. I take 6 mm every 5 months. In a "Salon" such a hair cut costs me 15 bucks.

I think you look fabulous. Personally, when I shaved me head I found that my exchanges with people seemed greatly improved. I've been told this is so since people tend to look more directly into your eyes.
I did it when Covid first hit and all hairdressers were closed... I stuck with it, it feels so great!
Did the same thing in high-school and again when I was 25 years old when my hair was fried after many years. You can rock anything with your beautiful face! I'm sure you feel liberated!! 🤎I love it!

When my dad saw my mum for the first time after she shaved her head prior to going into chemo he just looked at her and said: "Your skull looks so beautiful. So beautiful. I knew it would look amazing!" And he meant it. He kept telling everyone how lovely he thought she looked and that no one should be afraid to shave their head.

Hello Hayley, your new haircut looks great. Most women would have nightmares cutting their hair so short, but it looks great. It reminds me a bit of the actress Jean Seberg. Since I have a buzz cut for over 40 years, from experience I can tell you cut it to about 12mm and let it grow another 12mm until the next cut, you will feel comfortable within this zone. You may have noticed you can save some time in the morning since drying your hair takes now just the walk from the bathroom to the kitchen.
You look absolutely gorgeous! Not many women can pull off a fully shaved head but it’s suits you amazingly!!!

I always wanted to experience a shaved head because my hair is super warm, thick, and heavy and it's so not cool during the summertime. *WOW* You were brave! I hope you still enjoy your shaved head. It remains me of STAR TREK 1 (1979) It was Persis Khambatta in the role of Lieutenant Ilia from the U.S.S. Enterprise who had an iconic role in this flick. Her head was shaved bold to symbolize she received total knowledge by now. Anyway you are still looking good but it is a pity that you can't have proper access to afro hair profs here. One of my female colleagues have the same problem in the Area of Karlsruhe but for what you have a family 😉. I and my 11 year old niece wish you the best for your future, please keep up the good work with your interesting & entertaining videos.

Btw in the city where Iam from people with this hair structure often go to a barbershop owned by an eritrean or somalian for braids and such. There's such a shop in every bigger city I've been to. Often called "afroshop" or something like this. They often sell special african cultural things and for some reason cellphone cases aswell.
Whatever, great decision, you have a good headshape for a full shave.
My wife (with pretty thick 4C hair) recently got micro-locks. She had the big chop 2-3 years ago, and she was only JUST able to get it done, so you'll have to wait a bit, but its honestly been a great investment for her. She used to have to spend, easily, an hour a day styling it in the morning, and/or braiding/platting/twisting it in the evening. Now she just stuffs it in a silk bonnet at night, and tease it a bit in the morning. Now... every 6 weeks or so, she DOES have to get them re-tightened, but she still *loves* her decision.
You are 100% correct about everything when it comes to shaving your head! I shaved my head years ago and it was the first time that my head ever met raw air like that. Even as a baby I was born with a full head of thick hair! It was the most exhilarating feeling! Because having thick, Afro-texture hair you never know what’s underneath until you shave it all off… then it grew back so quickly.

Steht dir gut! 👍Sicher ein ungewohntes, aber angenehm freies Gefühl. Und gut für dich zu wissen, dass du eine sehr schöne Kopfform hast.
Für die Zukunft würde ich aber regelmäßiger die Spitzen schneiden ( lassen). Du hattest nämlich viel Spliss, wie ich dir schon mal vor etlichen Monaten geschrieben habe. Wenn die Haare sich spalten, wachsen sie auch nicht mehr länger, aber es tut ihnen nicht gut. Du könntest auch noch bei weiteren Haarsalons nach deren Preisen fragen. Ich kann mir irgendwie nicht vorstellen, dass ein Haarschnitt für Afrohaar überall dermaßen überteuert ist.
Jetzt erst mal viel Spaß mit der neuen Leichtigkeit!

I had to learn to do my own extensions because here in Germany they have no idea and even if they do it costs upwards of 500euros.
I shaved my noggin a couple years back... though it was out of solidarity for my older sister who was battling breast cancer (chemo) at the time.
That is an awesome reason to do it! I am so thankful that my situation is only for reasons of laziness 🥺 I know for so many women going through chemo and having to do a big chop can be very traumatising.
You are in good company, many beautiful black women have shaved their heads too: Lupita Nyong'o, Grace Jones, Skin, Amandla Stenberg, Danai Gurira, Erykah Badu... Rep. Ayanna Pressley didn't do it by choice, but she looks badass anyway. 👍

Also have very thick hair and always had it long. I mean long long, to the knees. Everyone always "you can't cut that hair". So 2 years ago I decided to shave. I'll never go back. It feels awesome.

From your story about hairdresser prices, now i understand better why so many black girls seem to wear wigs... Although i have to say, i always admire women that rock their natural hair (meaning, unstraightened for black women), that rock short hair, or a buzzcut like yourself. This shows confidence, and to me there is nothing sexier than confidence.
By the way, averaging my barber's haircut prices and how often i go there, i spend no more than ten bucks a month on my hair (costs for shampoo and warm water not included, but can't be that much). The prices that some women are willing to pay are unfathomable.
Hayley, you are comfortable with your decision, that's the main thing! I myself also wear long hair (natural honey blonde hair) and therefore know how much time and care it takes to wear the hair pretty well-groomed. With you, there was also the problem that it is still difficult to find a good hairdresser for African-American hair here in Germany. 700 dollars for a hairstyle, that's really a lot of money! But it doesn't matter for which hairstyle you decide in the future: You will always look pretty and no one will mistake you for a boy! 💐😀

I don’t blame you. It looks fantastic. I stopped paying a few years ago. First I found a great hairdresser at a cheaper place, under 20€, but she’s moved. So I cut it myself and I am happy. It isn’t perfect but it’s quick and free.
I have realised that hair is not supposed to be perfect...... I am happy with my cheap at home hair cut. It could be a little nicer but at the end of the day it was free LOL

While your hair is that short, use the still often gray days to go out without covering you head, so the skin can get used to sunlight slowly.
It´ll be cold, but you´ll get used to it!
I haven´t used a hairdryer for over three decades now, no matter how cold it was, showered, got dressed, went out, no problem at all.
Hair´s getting thinner though, now sun´s becoming a problem.
You look terrific! I have very thin hair and need to keep it short so it doesn’t go completely flat. The only good thing about my hair is that each individual strand of hair is not fine and it has a fine curl to it. It is sandy colored and I got the color from my father ( a Dane with the original Danish Afro!) and the thinness from my mother. Always wished I had his thick hair but never thought how that might have problems too. My father was over 40 when I was born so I only saw that thick hair in pictures.

Hey, you look great without hair! But if you want a different style, for going out for instance, you can always get a couple of cool wigs. A client of mine with Afro hair had this amazing collection of wigs. And since her hair was very short, these wigs weren't too hot or uncomfortable. I'm sure there also are good quality used wigs available.
Oh I know 😂 I have been eyeing some wigs. Maybe I can finally have blond hair!!
