@@RobertSlover why the hell are you even on this comment session. Why are you listening to the music, wasting your valuable time. Fcking critics are all alike. What they cannot do, they critique. Fascinating motivation.
Not often someone can sing and play this well. To add songwriting to this standard is amazing. To then be able to record to this standard is INCREDIBLE. Huge respect. 🙌
I remember stumbling on her in 2011 at a little dive in atlanta called the star bar. I remember trying get permission to play her tunes on a now defunct internet radio station called Aberrant Radio. She had the wisdom to shoot higher lol. It's so good to see someone who deserves it reach their potential. Im eager to see how she continues to develope and to enjoy what she blesses the world with!
'Simple joy' is not about creating music, for it is always a challenge. Listening to your songs it has become clear that you have nailed all the challenges on your path. I wish you all the luck of the world. Thank you for being true inspiration.
I just discovered her via Joy Williams through Spotify and once again, another Siren as I'm in LOVE with her music. I can't get enough of her songs. The one that brings tears to my eyes is "Make you Ok" as that is me she is singing about due to my depression and anxiety (panic attacks) basically causing my wife to leave me while I was away on a business trip only to come back after 12 years of marriage and hearing "I'm the best husband, etc" just a week before. I can her my wife saying those words, "Why couldn't I make you ok?!" I still don't understand what happened, constantly blaming myself (perhaps I should have done this more or that more) but music like hers helps me get through another day by myself especially really by myself thanks to COVID as now once again at 54, I'm "On my Own".
Hope you're doing ok James. I too find comfort, solace, and hope in music, and I'm glad you find that in Lera Lynn, as I and many others do. Know you're not alone. I will keep you in my thoughts!
Thanks Lera! Your an artist! Wow. My life is going thru some incredible changes. I have been old soul trapped in young world for so long that I'm no longer young. Your music helped to awaken the spirit in me. I have had close bonds with music my whole life, it's taken 40 years to realize how much the world is about art, connection, tragedy, shared experience, and the age old canundrum does life imitate art? or art imitate life?. You spoke to me many times thru your music and awoken the spiritual connection I have with my life, the cosmos, and your music a medium. If you ever had Clairaudience it's amazing. You get the feeling someone is watching you and you look to the feeling, It's the speaker, and a new song begins. Pay Attention if this ever happens to you. A lesson, a answer, an understanding is coming. It's very warm comforting moment. It's so lovely to be being guided by such forces! Thanks for the soundtrack of the time of my life where I awoke to the greater purpose of it all.

As someone who looks forward to every new music release from you, thank you for not quitting this year. Also, when you said you were minimalist, it all clicked for me. I've always appreciated how you use silence and space in your work. Cheers to many more years!
This was a wonderful gift #LeraLynn and thank you for putting this together and for sharing it with us. You're truly amazing and I appreciate you for it!
#leralynn Lera Lynn’s New album is absolutely amazing. I can’t stop listening to it, it’s that good and amazing. Job well done Lera. Can’t wait for your next album.
Love this I worked on True Detective also... With Nic Alex and Rachel, costumes and script writing.. I've been stuck on The Big Island since COVID... It's pretty great but ...
Thank you for your music. Your thruly surreal art just became a part of my life at some moment. I still have all the feelings that approached me when I started to listen your songs from "Resistor" album.
Thanks for the insight into your creative process Lera, takes a certain courage to lay it all out there. Will be buying the album. (Can also completely relate to comment about snare tones ... with me it’s kicks 😊)
Cool. I liked the recording very much. Great sounds with thoughtful lyrics. When you dress up and present the material with that face it adds a mythic element too your art. I love that part of it too. So lovely! How did you film this documentary? Who filmed it and edited it because it looks and feels authentic. I don't think filming a dinner party, filling up the car, or shopping at an art store is so easily filmed and presented in this way. I loved the weather too. Fall is so sad. Spring will come again. Plant yourself now you'll find yourself in then! I agree we are so insignificant aren't we? But then again.....
Thank you for this look into your life and your creative process. It's interesting to see how you have grown as an artist over your career. I wish you continued success. I will keep listening!
I get it...while you could describe it in a single sentence, it wouldn't feel like the oversimplified, compressed, zipped up, mp3 not a wav or lossless form of what you truly hope to express can be ensured with such limitations of overcomplicated simplicity! Of course I'm exaggerating a bit to get your attention because I wanted to see if I might be able to help, in more ways then one. But, I don't know you, and I've only heard maybe a few minutes worth of your music and intend to listen if not buy the album shortly after this. But it's one I'd dare say I relate to, the tones and the melodies, the feeling of the blue without being blue. It's a sadness without being where happiness is something we recall from familiarity but forgot the difference between what is a new happiness and what is just familiar or a reminder of what we once knew as happiness. It's been a couple of years since this short documentary so I imagine life has changed significantly considering COVID and whatnot. But if I had guessed, to explain your album in one sentence, with only hearing the few snippets from this documentary (assuming those were from the album) and just from watching this self-directed video, I would say, you pretty much got it at the end where it's now obvious I began writing my comment way before reaching that end (and did require I do some playbacks just to make sure I didn't miss what was being said). So I guess it's too late to go back now, but here's one sentence to explain how a future, forthcoming fan would describe what he thinks the album is about and why he was so interested in discovering more of it: "On my own is a self made genre blending album, performed and written by a women who shares the deep intertwined complications of what experience and emotion has come to pass in life as if it were beautifully blended, symbolic in genres, to appear as a minimalistic familiarity, jaded within the realm of possibility; and might be a mouthful of words sung only by the spirit of a few, if not one." 4:45 You know she's a keeper when she instinctively holds the door for the camera person shooting B roll even though she's probably the director who thought of doing the wide shot in the first place...great video!
I'm pretty intrigued by how you set about recording/producing this record yourself. Not to be a boring gear person but I'd love to know some basic stuff about what you used in terms of interface, software for recording/drum programming etc.
"How truly insignificant our time on earth is" 🙄 yeah, Im 38 and it feels like the last 10 years went by like a breeze feel like I have a temporal crisis malfunction or something
It seems to go by faster and faster with each coming year, James. I turn 70 next spring and I'm astonished at how quickly it had arrived. Retired from the music biz, but still ride my Ducati sport bike. Go figure... Life is short, so don't live with regrets. Just keep moving forward. 🙂
fascinating, but i miss the roots folk blues sound. the minor key sweet sadness can never be beat. one does not want a sad song they need a sad song. this more pop sound is disappointing.
