sikkim is Reviving the old dance. good to witness resurrection of sacred dance. In bhutan, tsechus are grand that last for 3 days in our dzongs(fortified structure). Every province declares 3 day holiday so that public can congregate to witness it. People go there with their finest bhutanese attire. Its not a tourist spectacle, people have been performing every year for the last 400 years. some tsechu in old lhakhangs are way older! i think sikkim has great potential to capitalized old mask dance to attract indian tourist. But i fear the local spectators will be outnumbered by indians. This will take the essence of festival away. Ladakh is also doing it. Bhutan gets alot of tourists in october and november because of favourable weather and one gets to see many tsechus. unlike ladakh, tourists are accompanied by tour guides who will elaborately explain the mask dances. That makes it more interesting for tourists.

Bhot is sanskrit name for tibet and bhotay, bhotia or bhutia actually means tibetan.. 😂
