I received some good advice regarding management of samples: don't have samples normalised (volume). It leaves you no room to work with.
I say this because your initial percussion sample looked like it was cranked up to the max.
So I went through my samples in Edison; normalised them; and then went: Tools > Amp > 0.5 volume. So there is consistency among my samples.
