    When you start falling asleep half way through and think scientist use emojis to make mice kill

  • @LimakPan
    @LimakPan 7 лет назад +148

    We use them to substitute the lack of sight of our face. We want to portray emotion which does affect the meaning of our words. That's it.
    People that overuse emotes are simply not accustomed to online communication, so they appear obnoxious, random or just hard to understand in general. Emotes are a language. But I doubt there's enough space for a whole science.

    • @killerxhunter11
      @killerxhunter11 7 лет назад +3

      you can make some science from a language so, yeah it'll probably be a science later

    • @huldu
      @huldu 7 лет назад +3

      Yes, I'd say they're close to their own language than anything else. You know what the emoji is and that little picture sums up a lot of words or "feelings" with just a simple picture.

    If people keep using pictures to communicate, eventually they'll become more abstracted until they represent individual sounds.

      My entire family died from a house fire,I can still hear their screams begging me for help but I ran out and watched,I was only wearing my pajamas,too young to know what to do so I simply ran,I could say I was lucky waking up first but I'd argue I was the unluckiest of all. :*
      My brother tried climbing out,covered and engulfed in flames,he was doing everything he had learned to save himself from the blaze,yet the fire was still overpowering him,he fell on the fence after jumping from his second story window,glass was laid across the concrete surface that had broken his leg,he could move,though it was more like flailing than anything else,desperately rolling around trying to extinguish the fire but his leg was stopping him from fully rolling. ;P
      My parents were fast asleep they burned quickly, too quick for me to hear them,but my sister was awake,she was only 6 or so at the time,she didn't climb out,she just stood in her room,screaming at me to help,but I was motionless,my body refused to move so I stood there too terrified by the situation to do anything of use. :O
      She burned slowly,he flesh searing as the fire raged,the smoke clouded the windows and her face,her painful screams could still be heard throughout the neighborhood. :)
      I lost everything in that fire,I may have lost my possesions,my family and my home,but the most important thing I lost that night was my sanity. :P

    • @crabgnome5388
      @crabgnome5388 7 лет назад +6

      the big threat of keeping a pet like a tiger is that the urge to kill is instinctive, not learned. Experts who live with tigers and other big cats since birth can operate around them only because the cats accept them as a member of their pack, and so they treat the humans like other cats. Since the signals sent to the mice were subconscious, not "hey you should go kill that stick" it might help with instinct as well.
      TLDR yeah i guess but i'm not an expert so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @aaronsmith5864
      @aaronsmith5864 7 лет назад +4

      Solid Banana i think the bigger problem is that there just really big. If a house cat gets mad and swats at you you might get a scratch and you know it just needs some space its not trying to hurt you its just a reaction. If a tame tiger swats at you for the same reason it might not want to hurt you but it's swat can break your neck.

    • @LENZ5369
      @LENZ5369 7 лет назад +1

      Assuming it can be applied to tigers -it would just make them less willing/able to kill us for food (something they are already less inclined to do).
      They probably will be still quite able to kill us if we threaten them or otherwise piss them off.
      also cats don't have packs.

  • @obiwanda
    @obiwanda 5 лет назад +1

    I remember when there were just emoticons. Great way to clarify emotional content of a text-only online message. Emails/texts from older folks tend to sound very stern, or even angry, due to the formal structure and lack of emotional context.

    For me, emojis don't help in conveying any emotion outside of "playfully X," where X is some other emotion. Saying "I am worried about my sick cat" does not become more heartfelt with a teary emoji, because I have seen that same damn icon a billion times on Facebook crap like "I'm suffering from post-ate-all-my-ice-cream depression. ~sad face~ Better buy some more!!!! ~laughing face~" That emoji is only good for playfully sad, as opposed to actual sadness.
    And honestly, I have a hard time believing that anyone gets any proper emotion from them beyond "playfully X." They're so damn colorful in a format that is naturally very monochromatic, text.

      there are a few exceptions,if you had (symbols for child) then (male figure) it's a boy but otherwise they were just like (wavy line) = *ch* sound.
      the most interesting this is that there were no vowels in ancient languages,people at the time just knew how to pronounce it.
      it's smthng lk ths bt t thm lt clrr.
      because of this we don't know how to pronounce ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics,we know a few words because of the Romans who wrote names in their latin alphabet but otherwise,nothing else.

    In the Name of Science, I once texted my fiance for 3 Days without emojis... He couldn't deal with the lack of emotions that he was experiencing and actually got a near panic attack! Alot of insecurities and negative thinking...

    Sooo what you're saying is that the villain in Zootopia could've gone even further?! Even the mice could have gone savage?!
    Regarding the emojis, I suspect that they'll hit on some similar pathways as language since many linguists see them as accutrements to language. I can't remember what the term is but they aren't really their own language but assist with comprehending it. Look up Gretchen McCullough for more info if you're interested.

    Am I the only one who gets really pissed off when people constantly spamming emojis in conversations? Like 5 winky faces with an upside down smiling face and heart eyes in one text message? I think it may be just because I imagine them experiencing none of the emotions that the emojis actually cover and just staring blank-faced at their phone spamming irrelevant emojis trying to make it seem like they are reacting more than they really are.

    You know who'd really do well to start studying emojis more? Best buy.
    If you've heard their radio commercial for cell phone plans, you realize they're about 30 years to old to begin grasping emojis and their relevance/usage in today's society.

    Isn't anyone else concerned about the possibility of someone igniting these hunting instincts in humans? I understand the neurons don't increase aggression, but it still seems pretty similar.
