Necrotic Nick- Easily one of the busiest engineers/ producers in metal here lately. He's prolific like Sneap but you get a bit more variety with Rizk's mixes.
I was amazed by A Romance with Violence in 2020 and have been a fan of Wayfarer ever since. I have extremely high hopes for this album. Hell, from what I've heard, it might just be my favorite of the year... maybe, it's hard to tell. Like you said, an innovative blend of American folk, Western/Progressive era influences and black metal. Very impressed by how that turned out in their case, because it could've sounded corny as hell. They remind me, thematically speaking, of Blackbraid, but entirely focused on the mythology of the Old American West.
@@thrallsofmetalI found Old Souls to be a fantastic album front to back. It's much more in the vein of World's Blood than ARWV or this newest one. Their first album is also good but is raw and meandering at times. That said, their entire discography is good and worth purchasing.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I do love that classic font. Reminds me of all those classic "cure all elixirs" from back in that era lol. This is a hell of a listen though. I hope you dig it as much as I did.
@@thrallsofmetal Hahaha! Great way to describe that cover. I am digging the hell out this album. Great material. Original too. Musically I wonder if they were inspired by early In The Woods, Moonspell, Anathema. I'd buy this stuff for sure. Man there are too many LPs I'd like to purchase at this point. Or cds. I still buy both when I can. Enjoy man🤘
This band is something special, they really hit their stride with A Romance With Violence and am super happy to see that continue here. After the guest Country vocals on "Black Plumes Over God's Country", as that beautiful solo hit, god damn shivers down my spine!
Necrotic Nick- I love this bands sound. I'm always taken back when the atmosphere of an album really transports you and the capture that western/ dust bowl era vibe perfectly. It's blended together so damn well too. Those transitions from style to style are amazing.
Total encapsulated-fabricated, imaginative immersive, experience that begs the question, how different would things be if Darkthrone drank at the OK corral…
Vinyl got delivered on Wednesday. This album is fantastic and a wonderful follow-up to ARWV. This band's evolution and honing of their sound has been nothing short of a fun journey. Favorite track for me is the opener or "To Enter My House Justified" but the whole thing end to end is a fucking great experience.
Necrotic Nick- I'm going to order this one here soon. I was a huge fan of A Romance With Violence and this one is pretty damn close to being on that level. The Cattle Thief, Black Plumes Over God's Country and False Constellation were big standout to me but I dug pretty much the entire journey this album took me on.
Don’t listen a lot of black metal, but I love this record. Country and black metal are both genres I don’t listen to that much as a lot of it I feel is bloated with a lotta okay to not good stuff, but combining atmospheric BM and gothic country is a great fusion.
Hey Nick Excellent review as always.. I highly recommend ‘The Wild Bunch’ if you haven’t seen it.. my all time favourite western.. it definitely inspired the song To Enter My house Justified..as it’s a line from the film🤓 Thanks for the killer content!
Necrotic Nick- That was where I jumped on and I've been meaning to get more of their stuff but I kinda just forgot about it. I'm definitely getting more by this band though in the future.
This new Wayfarer album was pretty solid, but I still think that a band from Flint, Michigan called Wraithlord did a much better job of fusing black metal (of the rawer kind) with spaghetti Western film scores on their mini-album The Ballad of John Joel Glanton that was released back in May of 2023. The album is inspired by the late Cormac McCarthy's novel Blood Meridian, for all you literary nerds out there.
Side bar: I attempted to read Blood Meridian in anticipation of this album and found McCarthy's literary "charms" to be really distracting. The lack of quotations to follow the character's conversations made it unreadable for me. Decided instead to read Iron Empires to really immerse myself in the moment for this album. 😂
Necrotic Nick- I'm not familiar with Wraithlord but I'm intrigued. I'm a bit more hit or miss with more raw black metal but I do love spaghetti westerns though. The Man with No Name trilogy was probably my big intro into westerns as a kid and I love the feel of those movies. I might have to check them out now.
Cinematic is the word that comes to mind for me as well.
Necrotic Nick- For real. I head a legit setting in my head the entire time this was playing. They capture that so damn well.
Holy shit, I'm going back through your reviews to see if I missed anything to put on my year end list, Nick, and uh, this is awesome! Wow.
Hey nick, another band on the black/western style is Fawn Limbs. Their record 'darwin fails' is really interesting
I'm not a country person but this album is fantastic
Necrotic Nick- Same here and I was really blown away. I loved the last one too so I kinda had a hunch I'd dig this one.
Arthur Risk is everywhere. He’s like the new Andy Sneap.

I got this one on order too. I enjoyed their previous two endeavors.
Necrotic Nick- I'm gonna order this one here pretty soon. I still need to get their earlier stuff too.

Bought this on iTunes today! 🤘🏼

Check these guys out live if you get the chance. Saw them at Fire In The Mountains and their set in that setting was beyond epic
Necrotic Nick- Oh, I 100% want to see this band live. I can only imagine how badass this would be live.

@@MNmarrow 🤣I know EXACTLY what you're referring to! Cormac McCarthy was pretty infamous for the whole lack of quotation marks thing.

I might have to check out wraith Lord. Thanks for going over Wayfarer Nick. I've been jamming this album for two days
@@mikepenny8940 There is a surprise cover at the end of that Wraithlord album for those who like Death in June (neofolk project). 🤫
This album cover looks very country!
Necrotic Nick- It also looks kinda country too.
Great album. If Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian was a black metal disc.
Necrotic Nick- Apparently I need to check out some of his novels but I have seen some of the movie adaptations so I do get the vibe lol.
