I work as an automation engineer in food and pharma sector and have watched some of your nice videos related to pharma industry. Now I have got the clearer idea of why integration is important and hoping to make use of the knowledge in future. Now I also realize how bad the situation was for us before these videos become available. Professor Dave inspires me to face my old high school and college demons and win the fights I lost back then. I very much appreciate the work you've put into your series of vids. But, the problem is that no one explains why calculus was invented, why it works with physics, what the area of an integral is suppose to physically mean, on and on. As a guy with a BS Physics, not one professor, nor textbook, ever bothered to explain/lecture the 'why' of math, which meant, that for many years, we were doing things by simple memorization. What I learned is that the most important math concept is that of the pure number. Derivatives and integrals are pure numbers, as are fractions, ratios, percentages, geometry, trig, slopes, thermo entropy, and a bunch of other things. In other words, we were introduced to the overarching concept of all calculus back in the third grade, but no one bothered to explain its importance. I wish STEM vids would begin teaching the fundamental concepts of their disciplines prior to doing problems, that way the subject matter would be far more engaging...
Absolutely! That’s honestly the worst part about math, that nobody explains why we’re doing what we’re doing. When you get past that though math get pretty fun lol

Last night, I was watching Blender tutorials (3D modelling) on RUclips, all on TV screen. The thumbnails of drama and documentaries on TV look VERY ENTICING and TEMPTING. I resisted temptations.

the quantum wave function is a positive AND negative swing which "differentiates" the parts or two poles that make up a whole; the "integration" is then taking that entirety and making a "relativity" or relative observation which is not true to the whole but polarized... in order for a 3 dimensional life form to interact with a solid or 3-D world, the observation must polarize the wave function so that it can be compared to other measurements or become a finite piece in an infinite whole...

It's amazing that Archimedes was using inscribed polygons to approximate areas of curved surfaces. If he would have taken the number of inscriptions to infinity, he might have invented calculus a couple thousand years before Newton.

Polygons are not infinitely differentiable like circles, parabolas, and spheres. You need a piecewise function to define a polygon, because you have jump discontinuities in their slopes at every corner.

Integration does not always means the area of something! Suppose i have to find the area of sin graph.. So the negative and the positive side area will be cancelled and the result will be 0. Cause the negative side area will be negative. And it will be 0. But we know area cannot be negative. Lastly we have to addition it in order to get area perfectly
Integration calculates the NET SIGNED AREA between a function and the graph. Some parts where the function is positive will have a positive sign assigned to their area, other parts where the function is negative will have a negative sign assigned to their area. Integration accounts for the sign of the areas that get added up, and adds up the net signed area.
What if I see a graph but I can't discover a function out of it to integrate? I have a graph from solar power generation in a day but can't find its function. Each points give a different y(Except vertex).
Ok: a slab of concrete starts at the origin, and is 10 meters wide along the x-axis. The remaining perimeter to this width, is defined by the function y=-x*(x-10)/5, where x and y have units of meters. Calculate the area covered by this slab of concrete.

Why polygons doesn't have any equation?
Polygons are not infinitely differentiable like circles, parabolas, and spheres. You need a piecewise function to define a polygon, because you have jump discontinuities in their slopes at every corner.
