    If you scrolled down to ask if I meant Final Fantasy VI near the end? Yes, yes I did. I only just caught it now. Oh well.

    One of us, one of us. SaGa scratches a JRPG spot like no other game in the genre. I was thoroughly impressed with Minstrel Song many years ago that I ended up playing it three times back to back. Glad you have more of an appreciation of the games now once you had more of them under your belt and scratching that curiosity to complete more.
    Romancing SaGa 3 is an excellent game, but overall I found RS2 as a more memorable first experience, and Minstrel Song being the greatest hits with game mechanics being my favorite.
    Can't wait to see your Scarlet Grace video, I probably won't be playing that for awhile. Hope you'll enjoy SaGa Frontier, it is one game that you will need to see to the end with all the characters.
    Hopefully SaGa madness won't inflict you too much that you end up playing Unlimited Saga to scratch that itch.

    Good review. I'm surprised you mentioned that site because I played through Romancing SaGa 3 just a month ago and had the same experience as you with the site. His constant bashing of the remaster became old quite fast.

      He's even doing it in this very comment section as we speak. Extrapolating whole things from small sentences that were never said. It's a bit incredible.

    The best change.... We are no longer punished for grinding, like in 2. Yes regular enemies havea scaling system but bosses do not so it still makes sense to grind and level up abilities or weapon types before bosses. Also being able to save whenever whereever is a god send.

    People should check out The Last Remnant. Also published by Square Enix and made by the SaGa developers. It recently got a remaster that is based on the much better balanced PC version.

    • @OutrunCitizen
      @OutrunCitizen 4 года назад +1

      I agree, The Last Remnant is really good and it's construction is very similar to Minstrel Song. I played TLR right after MS and I could really see how similar it was

    • @Aboveup
      @Aboveup  4 года назад +3

      Still haven't played TLR, actually. Do own it on Steam though. It's something I look forward to getting to one of these days. Heard it was initially developed with it being a new SaGa game in mind, with it being pushed as its own IP somewhere during development, but no idea how true it is exactly.

    For some reason I always thought you did a review of RS3 so everytime I wanted to look deeper into the series thanks to your previous reviews I always forget when looking for it, but not any more it seems. I've bought several of the Saga games thanks to the previous reviews and really can't wait to see more of what this series is about as I am currently in my first playthrough of Minstrel Song.

    Really need to see this review pop up. I beat Romancing SaGa 2 yesterday, and boy was it an experience! Mostly great, sometimes obtuse. Especially resetting everytime you died (because who wants to lose learned Skills) was a chore. The rest was so cool, though. I'm super excited to give this game a go after seeing this review, it looks even better than RS2.

  • @Jeffmetal42

    I'm so glad Square didn't do what they did with the FF5 and 6 re-release/remaster and just port over a half assed mobile game. They butchered the sprite work on those games. Such a shame cause the Romancing SaGa 3, FF6, Bahamut Lagoon, Treasure of Rudra and Chrono Trigger era of SNES sprites remain some of my favorite looking games of all time.

    Have never played any game in the series. Only vaguely familiar with the name.
    You’ve convinced me to get it. And have earned a new sub.
    Nice work.

    The "Sandbox" and "replayability" of this game is insane. I played it years ago on mobile for $10. I'm now playing it on ps4 for $5. This has been a good investment for Retro gaming.

    technically the field element mechanic was introduced in RS2. It didn't have an animation
    like in RS3, but it was most notable in fights like Subier, who regenerated HP when the water element became too strong on the field.

    • @WPFreeinternet
      @WPFreeinternet 4 года назад +1

      It was pretty scary on my playthrough because I was out of MP and my SP was dwindling fast against the Seven Heroes. They managed to change the field so they constantly regained 999 HP a round and I just had to power through it, often times with regular attacks.
      Made victory that much sweeter.

    • @cantrip7
      @cantrip7 3 года назад

      @Fur Fag Gamer Yeah, but you won't be taking full advantage of enemy weaknesses and stage affinity and such! It seems like the game wants you to change your party specifically for each battle.
