- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- Wanna make a stunning quilt out of your scrap fabric strings???
Well I have the Perfect Pattern for you!!!
This is a Free Verbal/Visual Pattern for your Scrap Strings.
Strings Of Illusion is a fun easy make that may take some time to piece, but has amazing results.
The strings look like they are floating.
I did make this for you all before in a Time-Lapse only video here:
• Time-Lapse Making A Sc...
You need 3 1/2 yards of a background + a bunch of strings.
Cut 9- 5" strips, sub-cut to 72- 5" squares.
Add strings to 2 sides back and forth (like a braid or half log cabin) till you get to 10.5".
Then lay out on point 6 across by 7 down.
You will be cutting 6- 16.5" cuts, sub-cut to 16.5" Squares. Cut on both diagonals for side set in triangles.
On point corners are 2- 8.5" squares cut on diagonal once.
Then more strings cut 5" for border with 4- 5" square cornerstones cut from remaining 8.5" piece. Then piece together the quilt as shown in video on point.
Trim quilt and add the 5" string piano key border with cornerstones. It's pretty simple.
Just takes a while to make this big for a size of 94"x106". Took me a total of 20 hours to make, spanning over 4 days.

That is the most organized scrap bin I’ve ever seen.
😆 ya it's the OCD scrap bin 😆
Don’t you see over her left shoulder. Boxes of specific sized scraps. I’m so intimidated.
Finally, someone who does not try to hide the fact that we walk on our quilts during construction! Thanks for the video!
😄 it's hard to avoid 😆
Ha that’s until you’re too old and stiff to get up and down on the floor!
I now have numerous card and trestle tables I have to put up and walk around to layout and measure my quilts! At 75 the hips and knees are not quite so obliging anymore ❤from Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺
If you want an extra hand while you trim with a long ruler use a gallon jug or a half gallon jug. I keep two in my sewing room one for my iron and the other to keep my ruler steady. Try it. You might like it. Thanks for your tutorials. Love them.
...and some else who quilts in her jammies!!!
@@TiffanysQuiltingLifeq ppl
A-freaking-mazing! Da--Vinci has nothing on you. Pure art.
Tiffany, this Music is so relaxing besides watching You create something different😍😍
This is the kind of quilting I like. Just plop, sew, lop, sew....and then find out the surprise at the end. Beautiful and fun.
I think I just found my favorite you tube quilter!!!
I made it and everyone loved it. Thank you so much❤ sending love from Australia 🇦🇺
This video is the first I ever saw during insomnia. You are a great teacher. I didn’t know what the terminology was until this video. I need to not agonize over putting together scraps. I love your videos. Thank you.
I love the voice over when the microphone messed up lol 😂
Thanks for the awesome lesson 😁
I am a beginner and have shopped around channels and you are the best. I leave every video thinking "I can actually do that!" You are a born teacher. Thank you for the lessons and the beautiful quilts you make.
You are so welcome!
Yes! Beginner here too, I too agree! You are born to teach. ❤️
Wow! I can't say I have ever enjoyed watching a quilting process more than I did watching this video, turnout such gorgeous quilt top as this one. And with scraps! Great job Tiffany!!🎉
Thank you 😊
Yes we all walk on quilts in construction! None of have elephant trunks for arms lol. Nicely done.
This is such a gorgeous quilt! I will definitely make this- probably a twin. Thanks and be blessed.
I love that you sew in your pj's.. I do it all the time. So enjoyed your video and GIRL you are very organized !!!!!! Thank you for sharing.
Yup, I think we sew better when we are comfortable 😉
WOW, they are both supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
I love both of these quilts. Lots of work but so rewarding. I think I’m going to make a lap size.
This popped up on my feed and I cannot tell you how much I _really_ appreciate that you walked through the whole construction of the quilt! I find the instructions for quilts, the ones you get in a book etc, so uninspiring but *THIS* is my type of instruction! Totally subbed ❤
Thank you 😊
I love the scrappiness and not wasting leftovers.
I laughed when I saw you bring out the bolt of focus fabric. I laughed because I also have bolts of the background fabrics I use often. I was binging on your quilts during the night. I have to go back to the star quilt. Last month I decided to put it on my list.
Gotta have lots of fabric on hand for random projects like this 😉
And people wonder why hand made guilts are so expensive. That was not only a lot of work, but also a lot of knowledge. Very fun to watch. Thank you.
Thank you 😊
I'm in awe, they are both just faboulous!!
You are my favorite instructor. I always get so much more out of your instructions. Because you are so honest with your hang-ups, it is easier for me to have confidence in myself. I believe you are making me a better quilter.❤
Awe Thank you 😊
Another mind blowing quilt you made. It is beautiful quilt. Thanks for sharing
I love this quilt! Thanks for the clear, thorough instructions.
Just got to the end of the video….. as I commented earlier….”GREAT” video and easy to understand. Helped A LOT to understand terms commonly used that I had no clue what was referring to…. Such as: ON POINT, NESTING, FOCUS PRINT, CORNER STONE along with now knowing that when I connect rows that it’s ok…. RECOMMENDED to have the seams in each row going in the opposite direction.
Also, as you did when laying out your pieces you commented on moving on to the BORDER you point out REALISTICALLY as to how long this is going to take.
Just really impressed and grateful for happening by your video.
Preference between the two quilt tops….. I lean towards TEAL myself; but,no doubt that they are equally beautiful and wonderfully made. 😊😊😊😊
I try to make things easy to understand 😊 Thank you for watching 😊
I just love watching your videos. I live the fact you truly explain and share your tricks to make things easier. I’m a beginner. Have done small projects. ❤
I try my best to help beginners to advanced quilters 😉
So organized ❤ thank you! I also love how you go through each and every step. Thank you so much for this video. I am a new quilter and I’m gravitating toward scraps and strips . I love how all the blocks use the same pattern, but with the strings they are all different at the same time. Thank you again. You are such a good teacher, and you have inspired me to not only do this project, but to get organized in the micro way that I love. 😁🥰
Have fun 👍
Very organized and well explained! And I love the jamies! After all we all do quilt on our jamies!❤
For sure 😉
That is a very large and very beautiful quilt.
Both are lovely! I'm a turquoise lover!
I love the fact that you can laugh at yourself. After all, that's what quilters do. lol Thanks for a very entertaining and great tutorial. I really enjoyed it. After I knock out the family requests I'd like to try this.🪡🪡🪡🌷
Thanks for watching 😊
you are an amazing teacher.....I am a quilter for about 20 years, but I still learn so much from you. Thank you Tiffany

Loving watching this. You are AMAZING! An artist and an engineer! Beautiful work. Great instructions! This would surely take me a year or more to do! ❤️
Thanks so much 😊
Thank you I made the blocks for a quilt similar and enjoyed you outtingvthus to. i've been quilting all my life and I'm 71. You're the first person I have run across that makes entire quilt online so that we have absolutely no questions at all and we can go back and rewatch it to make our quilt instead of just hit and miss. So many people want you to subscribe subscribe. I have a quilting group Quilting Buddies Worldwide online and I don't have a subscription for that either because I want people to learn and have fun and enjoy. Thank you again Tiffany for what you do. And you are in my prayers for your health. Jeannie Sladko
My goal years ago was to provide as much start to finish quilting videos I can get in under 2 hours. I didn't like all the videos I seen when I was learning that skipped all the steps. So I wanted to break that with full quilt tutorials 😊 Plus I honestly feel like if I miss a step then people learning will have no clue what happened in-between A and Z. Thank you for watching 😊
Brilliant corner stone demo
Thanks for showing the whole technique!
Teal and Maroon- like them both, can’t choose. Love your tip for adding the final cornerstones. I work from the corners to center, overlap 1/2”, cut, sew, finish attaching (but only with scrappy borders). Can’t wait to try your method. Seems better to me. Thank you. Hope you and Becca are having a blast at Quilt Con. 😊
We are having loads of fun. We leave for Quilt Con in the morning. And then we will have more fun 😊
Really beautiful and effective , I would never visualise this final touch of your piano border. and I love the maroon version . Thank you for taking your time to show us in detail your creation.
Glad you like it!

Tiffany you are awesome!
Love your quilts.
Thank you so much!
I'll enjoyed your quilt video.turn out beautiful 😍. someday.i will try this quilt. thank you God Bless.
This is definitely the prettiest "scrappy" quilt I've ever seen. I want to try this one, soon.
I needed this today. I'm exhausted and packing to move, and although I may not have a good sewing space for a while, it was refreshing to hear someone talk and describe everything, exactly the way I would. Your laughing at yourself and the broken mic had me giggling....I totally think and talk the same way!
Glad you enjoyed 😉 good luck with the move
OMG your master... you make it look so easy. Lovely
That is a beautiful quilt, very talented
Oh my goodness , that was a massive tutorial , very interesting, ,learnt a lot, excellant information , thankyou Australia
Glad you enjoyed it
Your energy is amazing! So fun to watch. Given me the gumption to use some of all my strings! Your precision is admirable. Thanks!
You can do it!
Beautiful! You are amazing! Love to watch you.
Lovely. I hope do one, asap.Thank you for now, Jo Baird
thanks for this video. there is an illusion of depth. I liked the blue because that's more my color.
You are so talented!!! Love the quilts!! Great video!
Loved watching you make this quilt top
That was a lot of work! Not counting the sewing but the filming. Thank you so much for doing it. I cannot wait to try it. I might use your video to do a sewing class of my own if that would be all right.
I don't mind.
And just think, I loved this quilt so much when u made it in time lapse, that I slowed that video down as slow as I could, and made one for my best friend (a little smaller of course) but I made one and it turned out wonderful. So glad ur doing it again with details. This quilt is the best way to use up ur mix match and ugly fabric and create something beautiful. Tiff, ur creativity is unmatched.
Thank you 😊
That would be a great quilt to do as a group.
Absolutely gorgeous! I'm glad you gave us an approximate number of hours it actually took you. Gives me a way to plan.
I like the turquoise better.
LOVE!! LOVE!! LOVE! Beautiful! I want to make one!
Go for it!
You make the most gorgeous quilts honey, and it seems as though you’ve been quilting for decades! You are PURE AWESOMENESS! 🎉 I absolutely love your channel content! 🥰
Thank you! 😊
I know this is a yr ago, but I love both quilts. I like how clear your instructions are

Love both, possibly the tourqoiuse is my favorite
They are real pretty ❤
Love your background music on this video!
Thank you!
Thanks so much.
I think I like this pattern. I might give it a go. I had a lovely tartan but my daughter nabbed it out of my stash.
Amazing.
Thank you for sharing it.
Talented.
You are adorable!!!!👏🏼👏🏼🦋🦋❤️🙏
This is a beautiful quilt! Thanks for giving us more scrappy ideas!

Good morning, early bird. Perfect thing to watch while in a waiting room.
Enjoy!
Good morning. Stuck in bed with a flare. Your videos are a bit long but I have been streaming them back to back. You make everything look so easy.
I hope you feel better. I like the long videos , she leaves no stone unturned. Excellent teacher on these visual and verbal tutorials patterns.
Feel better 😌
Love your music background. Loving watching your video
I'm hoping to make one like this. I just came across your channel tonight. So glad I did
Your a good teacher
Thanks so much! 😊
And here I was saying I’m not making any more quilts !!
I just changed my mind because I love this quilt, and it looks like so mush fun to make, and no matching points or worrying about colour combinations.
Great instructions too. Thank you 🌷
It's definitely a fun quilt 😊
That large box of « strips » is one hell of a treasure. Wish I had even one small one…..how you piece so perfectly, no guide, no starch is beyond me. You are one of my favorite quilter!
It just happens. I've perfected my own style of making quilts 😄
Absolutely gorgeous
Life is so freaking amazing. I was having a pretty bad day on a day that I couldn't have a bad day. I took a moment to sit down with RUclips and your video popped up. I said, what the heck. What a wonderful experience. I love your fast forward. Sounds silly but it's very soothing. I can't wait to get the holidays over so I can make this quilt.
I'm glad your day got better 😉 Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
Oh it did. Our family dinner was amazing. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. I look forward to your new videos and catching up on your old ones. @@TiffanysQuiltingLife
Thank you 😊 Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
This is the best, easiest to understand quilt tutorial that I have ever seen. THANK YOU🥳🥳🥳
BRAVOOOOOO 🥳🌟👏👏👏🥳👏👏🌟👏🥳👏👏👏🥳👏🌟👏🥳👏👏🌟👏🥳👏🌟👏👏🥳👏👏🌟👏🥳
Thanks 😊
I love it - we only need 72 blocks!!
This looks more like a log cabin quilt than a string quilt. Thank you for explaining so clearly.
They’re both Awesome!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! Newbie quilter here. Someday I'll have a scrap pile big enough ;)
Beautiful. My 89 year old mother wants me to quilt. She’s done thousands of quilts. I’m still working to make ends meet, but if I ever get to retire I would love to be able to make quilts. Mom hand stitches hers, I might not do it that way. Love your designs and work. 👍
I hope you get the chance to start.
It turned out so beautiful!
Thanks 😊
Piano borders... I have a sm/mid size tote with these borders. I spend time once in a while & make these, colour/tone wise wrapped on cardboard, held with an elastic. My favorite border, as well as I'm a border addict. The more the better. I also make larger quilts, q or k size. I use any leftovers possible in throw size. Next leftovers sent to bestie in Florida, as she is the 'scrap' queen. I also use a lot of 2.5, 4, or last one larger, which I precut, wrap & keep in the tote. I need a border, the first place I look is that tote. Almost always find at least 1 that is a great fit to the top design, colour, etc. I recently started to keep crumbs for 4.5 x 5 , simple house blocks. Need at least 400+. 1/2 everyday I sew. I sew about 350+- days a yr. I primarily make & tie, selling at local farmers market. I have several tops to be machine quilted throughout the yr. I have too many quilts, but this is my primary joy, I also rug hook, knit & love to cook. I'm a widow with 2 doggos & a cat with attitude!!! After a house fire, a move to a mobil home, a shattered hip, I have a very good life. 78 yrs & counting. Fun video, keep your great attitude out there. Thank you.
That sounds great using up what ya have that way 😊 I love borders on my quilts too and tend to make queen and king sizes often. Sounds like you enjoy your daily life 😊 Have fun, keep on sewing!
Awesome video. Thank you for clear instruction. It is a beautiful quilt and made with scraps!!!! Win, win!!
from Gerry- What a great quilt! Thanks for sharing. Blessings.
Thank you! 😊
Love the turquoise 😅one but both are works of art
