  • Wanna make a stunning quilt out of your scrap fabric strings???
Well I have the Perfect Pattern for you!!!
This is a Free Verbal/Visual Pattern for your Scrap Strings.
Strings Of Illusion is a fun easy make that may take some time to piece, but has amazing results.
The strings look like they are floating.
I did make this for you all before in a Time-Lapse only video here:
    • Time-Lapse Making A Sc...
You need 3 1/2 yards of a background + a bunch of strings.
    Cut 9- 5" strips, sub-cut to 72- 5" squares.
Add strings to 2 sides back and forth (like a braid or half log cabin) till you get to 10.5".
Then lay out on point 6 across by 7 down.
You will be cutting 6- 16.5" cuts, sub-cut to 16.5" Squares. Cut on both diagonals for side set in triangles.
On point corners are 2- 8.5" squares cut on diagonal once.
Then more strings cut 5" for border with 4- 5" square cornerstones cut from remaining 8.5" piece. Then piece together the quilt as shown in video on point.
Trim quilt and add the 5" string piano key border with cornerstones. It's pretty simple.
Just takes a while to make this big for a size of 94"x106". Took me a total of 20 hours to make, spanning over 4 days.

If you want an extra hand while you trim with a long ruler use a gallon jug or a half gallon jug. I keep two in my sewing room one for my iron and the other to keep my ruler steady. Try it. You might like it. Thanks for your tutorials. Love them.

Just got to the end of the video….. as I commented earlier….”GREAT” video and easy to understand. Helped A LOT to understand terms commonly used that I had no clue what was referring to…. Such as: ON POINT, NESTING, FOCUS PRINT, CORNER STONE along with now knowing that when I connect rows that it’s ok…. RECOMMENDED to have the seams in each row going in the opposite direction.
Also, as you did when laying out your pieces you commented on moving on to the BORDER you point out REALISTICALLY as to how long this is going to take.
Just really impressed and grateful for happening by your video.
Preference between the two quilt tops….. I lean towards TEAL myself; but,no doubt that they are equally beautiful and wonderfully made. 😊😊😊😊

Life is so freaking amazing. I was having a pretty bad day on a day that I couldn't have a bad day. I took a moment to sit down with RUclips and your video popped up. I said, what the heck. What a wonderful experience. I love your fast forward. Sounds silly but it's very soothing. I can't wait to get the holidays over so I can make this quilt.

This looks more like a log cabin quilt than a string quilt. Thank you for explaining so clearly.

Beautiful. My 89 year old mother wants me to quilt. She’s done thousands of quilts. I’m still working to make ends meet, but if I ever get to retire I would love to be able to make quilts. Mom hand stitches hers, I might not do it that way. Love your designs and work. 👍

Piano borders... I have a sm/mid size tote with these borders. I spend time once in a while & make these, colour/tone wise wrapped on cardboard, held with an elastic. My favorite border, as well as I'm a border addict. The more the better. I also make larger quilts, q or k size. I use any leftovers possible in throw size. Next leftovers sent to bestie in Florida, as she is the 'scrap' queen. I also use a lot of 2.5, 4, or last one larger, which I precut, wrap & keep in the tote. I need a border, the first place I look is that tote. Almost always find at least 1 that is a great fit to the top design, colour, etc. I recently started to keep crumbs for 4.5 x 5 , simple house blocks. Need at least 400+. 1/2 everyday I sew. I sew about 350+- days a yr. I primarily make & tie, selling at local farmers market. I have several tops to be machine quilted throughout the yr. I have too many quilts, but this is my primary joy, I also rug hook, knit & love to cook. I'm a widow with 2 doggos & a cat with attitude!!! After a house fire, a move to a mobil home, a shattered hip, I have a very good life. 78 yrs & counting. Fun video, keep your great attitude out there. Thank you.

That sounds great using up what ya have that way 😊 I love borders on my quilts too and tend to make queen and king sizes often. Sounds like you enjoy your daily life 😊 Have fun, keep on sewing!
