What a fascinating run! He clearly disliked the feel of the mannequin, and I couldn't see that he ever touched the wig. But two things stood out to me: He constantly shaped himself like the wig, no streamlining through the water this time. And it was fun to watch his arms "thinking," the individual suckers moving like a player piano. Also, how do you always find the perfect music to highlight each episode? This track was all floaty, like a slow belly dance-which he was essentially doing. Great job, Octolab.
As it is first starting out, LOOK at how HIS RIGHT EYE is raised higher than his left eye!! See it?! They do that when they are REEEEALLY checking something out or to peek over a solid object. (like a rock, etc) I LOVE when they do that! LOL!
Poisonous wig? Venomous? Highly dangerous Jellyfish? I dunno, but that looks like a warning colour to me. Maybe try a brown wig, see if they're more interested in that?

Some of his caution seems to be about the mannequin. Maybe the wig being up so high seemed like a much larger creature that might be a threat. Would just the head or just the wig cause this?
@@davewolf6256 Very good point. We've seen some that definitely react to their people, so it might be totally wrong for that person to be underwater and not doing things.
Yes, I'd be curious how the octopus would react to just the wig alone, the mannequin alone, and a wig of a neutral, non-warning/non-potentially-toxic color.
Yeah definitely want to see just the wig maybe like a sand color but also curious about a yellowish green as well as blue since sometimes they respond interestingly to colors for some reason
It would be interesting to see the reaction to the mannequin without the hair. Whereas it's reasonably clear he doesn't like the wig, is the "human" missing most of its body also scary?
Hmmm. He looks like he's exploring frantically for cover and a way out. No ground cover at all, totally exposed, largely ignores wig gimmick. Seems distressed. What do others think?
Got the impression of "what is that creepy thing?" Do the tentacles tightly spiral at the tips when they're feeling some trepidation? Wondering what the reaction would be to a natural hair color? Seems to me, bright crazy colors like that are a warning of poisonous things in nature. Noticed that the exploration was on the dummy head, of a more natural color, rather than the incredibly ugly wig... I mean seriously... that's worthy of caution. Admittedly, I may just be reading my own reactions into the octopus movements.
@@sueg2658 I thought the same. Especially about the taste or "smell" of the plastic in the water. He really seemed more careful than normal. Still curious, but way more careful than the other times.
Not enough time for it to learn enough to communicate coherently. You know with the short lifespan and all. Minus 3 months to gain his trust, cooperation, and growth needed for that level of response.... Maybe with a larger longer lived species that was born in captivity
He's like "thanks, I hate it". The way he curles his tentacles in is kind of like how we curl ourtoes and fold our arms when we're being squeamish it seems
That octopus did exactly the same thing I did when I saw a pink wig! Of course the octopus would have looked way better in it than me so maybe it's just jealousy.....I💜🐙✌
Is the octopus reacting to the wig? Or the face? It seemed to me he was freaked out by the face more than the wig. If he came up to explore the mannequin, he always did it from the side and back first.
It's ok little octopus. I don't like that thing either. It's bright. It's reddish. It's sitting on a faux head, much larger than itself. It's made of inorganic materials that probably taste horrid to the suckers. Damn right the lil critter is cautious.
One experiment that would be fun is you see what Pokémon starter they like. Take a plushie of charmander, squirtle or bulbasaur and see which one they pick.
The way he flashed his colors at the wig in the beginning to show "you wanna fight!?" but then the wig was sharp and probably tasted awful so he was more afraid of it
MY 1st reaction to that thing was ”GAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAHHH!!!!!!!!!"🤪 This dear lil' dude doesn't seem to thrilled about it either...but he's got more tolerance than I do. & she's a lot younger. & he's unquestionably a lot smarter!!! how is your octopus normally housed, what keeps his/her attention during most days? Do they respond to sound, maybe he likes Bach or smooth jazz, metal?
the octopus seems really scared and would like to run away and then a tentacle touched the hair of the wig and he had a bad feeling... plastic... maybe he got a shiver of disgust?
Dang! Stop putting these poisonous products in that poor octopus' aquarium! Who knows how many chemicals are leaching in his water and are going to make him sick. I agree that you should give him natural products to examine.
I't would be nice to see this experiment repeated with real human hair in place of the fake one. Maybe it was the texture of the wig he didn't like. The ends probably felt a little "sharp" to him.
Humans! Who lost their head in my tank? Come on, fess up! Seriously, this isn't even funny. That hair color is an eyesore and a crime against nature. It completely dominates my space, here. See, my tank is only this big, while you have that huge room out there. If you like your hair that color, then keep your heads at your own place! Hello! Can anyone hear me? I guess not... These humans; what a clown show! Not only have they misplaced most of their limbs, but now they're losing their heads, as well. God only knows how they became the dominant species on land; they sure wouldn't stand a chance in water.
I think he clearly seemed scared and stressed. I think it might look and feel to him to be something really spiky and potential venomous 🤔 it also seems the tentacles/suckers have very sensitive feeling, like fingers indeed!
Maybe he can't feel the difference between soft and hard that good and not knowing the wig is quite soft like us it's not worth the risk of being stung with venom

It didn't like that. Subtle colour changes and his arms rolled up as he moved around, and very fast retraction when it did touch the head...it's learning from the cat.
I wonder how they would react to a hollow rubber ball? Have it teathered via a chain to a weight on the bottom allowing it to float halfway up. Also consider attaching via a thread so it would break and see how he reacts when the ball starts floating.
Wig: exists
Octopus: NOT TODAY SATAN!
To me it looks like the most prominent thing wasn't the shape or the color, but that he was turned off by the taste of plastic.

Some of his caution seems to be about the mannequin. Maybe the wig being up so high seemed like a much larger creature that might be a threat. Would just the head or just the wig cause this?
It's possible the octopus recognizes the mannequin as a "face" and is not sure if it is another animal.

Definitely, but as noted not like we do. There’s a video of an octopus reacting to different colored rags. It did NOT like the green one!

I'm not sure I've seen them so cautious. Hot pink toxic or dangerous maybe? Some commenters suggest separating wig and mannequin for clarification.
Reckon it looks like a big octopus flaring a bright pink colour, which might communicate aggression...?
I heard octopuses are color blind
What would happen in there was a brightly coloured wig vs a normal colour? Because bright colours can mean 'danger'
I'm wondering if he recognizes a human head replica and is curious about the different taste texture than other humans he met.
He does furtively touch the wig. I think the color turned him off but he seemed repulsed by the texture( taste?) of the wig itself.
He looks wigged out
I feel like this looks like something poisonous to an animal. Very bright and lots of potentially dangerous bristles ^^,
