    Hi James.. I've waited 20 years to get a SP Daylight. I finally got my 80s to 2000 version to go with my other SP ENGINES. I LOVE THIS MODEL!!I quilled the whistle like it says on pg 28/29. Sounds very cool. Great review, i enjoy all your reviews as i find them very informative and honest. Keep up the great work!!

    I wish I could afford all 4 of these models like you! I got the BNSF one at a great price and still could barely afford it on a payment plan, lol. They are so nice though! I have a Bachmann DCC Sound Value Daylight 4449 (modern) and it doesn't compare to this.
    Only problem is that I started having issues with my BNSF shorting out very soon into running it.

    Three things:
    The video footage is fine. If you didn't mention that you were using your phone camera and not the stand alone camera I wouldn't have known the difference. What model phone you used?
    I think the Broadway Daylight orange is darker the the MTH Daylight orange. Caveat: At least with my current picture settings on my TCL smart TV anyway.
    It was more like nine (9) seconds from the loco being lifted off the track to the stay alive cutting out instead of eight seconds. You held it off the track for a full "1-1,000" before you started counting. So you sold Broadway short!😉

    Great review!! On the American Freedom Train version of the 4449, they're are a few differences from when it was in that scheme during the bicentennial and when it was repainted back to those colors in March of 2002. The differences are, the blue is more of a sky blue and the piolet has no white stripes.

    This may just be the best HO-scale depiction of the GS-4, especially of 4449. I saw one of the pages at the old "Modeling the SP in HO Scale" website of Mr. Angel Garrido, and he mentions that the old BLI version that was produced in collaboration with now-defunct subsidiary Precision Craft Models wasn't ever a good runner. The MTH version was better at that, but it wasn't a very accurate model. Kudos to BLI for finally getting it right. I hope that ScaleTrains will release a more accurate HO scale Daylight train using the former MTH tooling, obviously tuned up to look a lot more accurate in terms of paint and with better-quality material, for this locomotive to pull, and maybe also as an eighteen-car consist like the "Daylight" had at the height of its popularity (about 1946-1950). BLI says that it will release "Stealth" versions that are DCC-ready later this year and they also want to make an N-scale version sometime in the near future, too. If they do, then I hope that it will be a lot more accurate and run better than Kato's version since Kato's version doesn't have a lot of the details that BLI's HO-scale version does. They mentioned that in the next-to-last question of last month's "Broadway Flyer" monthly newsletter. Here are the pages in question for reference.

    On both of the Daylight red/orange versions the “Daylight” emblem on the skirts is in different places on the left and right sides. On one side it’s higher than the other side. That’s a pretty bad mistake.

      hmm, I didn't notice that until now. Good catch. That's why I let the video do the talking in addition to what I catch because it's hard to see it all from 1-2 feet away while doing the review.

    • @OriginalBongoliath
      @OriginalBongoliath 8 месяцев назад +1

      The new BLI one is a much better version. I used to have the old MTH one and while it looks nice and has the extended, unique passenger announcements, and better smoke unit, everything else the BLI one does better. One of the biggest drawbacks of the MTH version is the pulling strength and plastic drawbar. Their version that came out in 2020 had a lot of quality control issues. If you pull short trains then it should not be an issue but if say you wanted to pull the full-length Daylight passenger consist the MTH one will struggle.

      @@OriginalBongoliath mmmm... I don't know. In my opinion the MTH one is better than this one. But I would have to see this one in person to really decide. Anyhow, for a start I love MTH smoke units! Also I run the MTH set of passenger cars + 2 and I don't have pulling problems. I wonder...

  • @legotech7268

    I wasn’t able to pre order this model since I wasn’t sure if this would have any significant problems. At my train club most people don’t buy broadway but buy brass. I am really impressed with this model overall the detail is spot on and the pulling power is amazing. But the thing I want to know is are there any significant problems that will appear after a few months of people using this model. Because if there isn’t I do intend on buying one of these things when I get off of college over the summer if there are any left. Regardless you did a great job on this review and I think you covered everything everyone wanted to know about for this model. Great job man.

      I also didn't pre-order since I wasn’t sure if this would have any significant problems...like the paragon2 did. There is a high chance BLI releases these again as "Stealth". That will allow a "soak"/real-world testing of all the hardware. lol

    MTH didn't go out of business, they just downsized when Mike Wolf retired. They got rid of their HO tooling to solely focus on O Scale, their bread and butter, selling their HO tooling to ScaleTrains.

    This is my favorite locomotive. I was interested, but other reviews have had issues with derailing and shorts. Did you have any of these problems. This is not bashing Bachman, it is a serious concern if I am going to spend $700

    The only thing i dont like about the new paragon 4 series is that thier electronics are proprietary. Meaning it is nearly impossible to make changes or to even rewire the locomotive if you were to do so. I have been seeing a lot of Paragon 4 flooding the market because of this. Especially THE FEF3's

      @@jlwii2000 all you have to do is focus on the white walls and it's a match with striping and the lettering. I was all over it in Wenatchee for the EAS in 2000, and chased it through the Yakima canyon, over Stampede Pass, into Tacoma and back down to Portland in 2001. I guess it's just different when you got to see it in person. It was some good memories... Oh well decals for the fix it is.

I pulled tested the k4 pacific prr at 340 grams and bigboys are over 400 grams. the fact that it only slightly out does the k4 pacific isnt really all that impressive. Ill hafta test my mth. Lets see you in 3 or so years after you've run this hard 3hrs at a time in a large professional layout every weekend for the public we will see how that paragon crap stands up. If this is still running ill be surprised. my mth is still going strong. my bli engines drop like flies. Ill be passing on the bli daylight. already have one that works great.

      Never pay MSRP for a new locomotive. You can always wait a bit and find better prices at wholesalers or on BLI's own refurb outlet store. I recently got Paragon4 PRR E6 Atlantic for 300$ (MSRP of $600, so basically half-off) from their outlet store. If I want to I could sell it in a year or two for much more than I paid for it.

    • @OriginalBongoliath
      @OriginalBongoliath 8 месяцев назад +3

      @@nickmangona48 Prices on high end models have always been expensive even back in the "good ol' days". Your government destroyed your purchasing power by inflating the currency. Adjusted for inflation these cost as much as the old brass trains that were the best you could get but now these have better quality control and ready to run out of the box versus the tinkering you have to do with brass so overall are a better value for what you get. You can always find Bachmann models for a fraction of the price.

    Here's my short video of my southern pacific 4449 small letter version with 9 passenger cars on the layout. (ruclips.net/user/shortsUAEt32Q8aUs)
    I order more athearn ho sp daylight cars because I could add more consist.
