I can dig that. The thing with Matt is that he's like Colaiuta - his conceptual approach to the instrument is on another level, and that's why he's getting so much recognition. Hundreds of big-name drummers can do odd times and beat displacement at speed, but not many can do so with the ingenuity that Garstka does. This is not easy-listening drumming, but it is incredible nevertheless.
I've listened & watched him loads for a while now & I've really tried to see the point in what & how he plays. Yes he has a knack for odd times & beat displacement at speed, but apart from that what else is there to him?? Back to Gavin Harrison then!
You make it sound like odd times and beat displacement at high speeds is easy. He adds a ton of creativity to the technical scene that is Animals as Leaders. He's arguably one of today's best drummers as well as one of the most advanced composers in notation.
It's not easy, I do understand that. I just don't think personally that predominantly hand to hand fast sticking with a few flicks & flams is technically advanced playing. It's by no means rudimentally outstanding.
It’s pushing the boundaries of what you can do with rhythm. It’s unorthodox, it’s unique and even abrasive; but it’s unlike anything out there and all it’s own thing. Matt has created a niche for himself, and his style is honestly captivating as hell.
CrappyGamerHere my opinion didn't come from any other place other than I find his style one dimensional & to hit as many things as possible as fast as you can using metric modulation. I just don't like it, I don't find it pleasing to the ear but I appreciate his good at doing it & that it would appeal to a lot of young learning drummers & I don't spose it would be a bad style in your drumming arsenal if your required to play at any time to that sort of music. I'll stick with the older & current more mainstream drummers I like, I think I'm a bit old now to start taking that style on at 53 & after playing for over 40 years!
The groove and solo in Inner Assasins is just incredible
That tempo drop in Physical Education is not human. The whole band is doing the absolute impossible.
I believe it's a cut, but it's very well done
Yeah, matt was doing 11 over 4 on that. Crazy shit indeed
Matt Beastka... His arms and hands must just be flashing before his eyes sometimes
That Physical Education break😳
Incredible drummer.
That Physical Education improv was good enough to make anyone feel bad.
Tosin finally found someone that HE needs to keep up with lol.
“Beast Medley” Very appropriately named! This guy only plays monstrosities! 😱🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Omg man, i dont understand how you do what you do. Well obviously practice but theres more to it than that. 🤟🏻
Well now if somebody ever asks me who my favorite drummer is and why this is the video I’ll show them
If Vinnie Colaiuta played metal
He did on Megadeth though…
Wow. I've thought the same for years, and you're the first person I've seen say the same.
He just kicked all drummers befor in time.. just out of the timeline!!!!
Ladies and gentlemen Matt the Monster
Just incredible! 🤟🏻
More beast than human

Although Matt is part of that missleading inclusive social media drum industry, he actually is so much more. A true master of the instrument.

I disagree.
