Here's one for you. I have purchased a lot of tools in my time. I always tell her, you have to spend money to make money. Hit her with the "when I'm on my death bed, I'll want more time, not more money". I recently bought the $2000 odd Hilti laser. I was really trying to hide the receipt, but she saw it. She was going in at me, "YOU SPENT $2000 ON A LASER?!?" I told her.. time is more valuable than money. That laser saves me an incredible amount of time, which means I can get home earlier to spend time with you and make you dinners etc. I slept on the couch for a week.
"This? New? Nah, love. I"ve had this for ages. You haven't seen it before because I the apprentice packed in away with old nail gun and I only just found it when I was cleaning up the shed. Do ya wanna see how big the huntsman spider is in there? It's HUGE"
Not blowing smoke, but for me the easiest way to get new tools has been watching the videos featuring Gaston with my partner. There's always something that he'll show off that she thinks is super cool (or super cute, in the case of the mini systainer). Once there's something she wants to get it would be silly not to also grab the other things I've "needed for a while"; saves on shipping, doesn't it?
That cute little Systainer is perfect for business cards. I love the expression from those who "get it" when I pull it out. I should carry some to sell, as everyone wants one when they see it.

Hello, I am from Belgium, selling tools , for more then 30 years. All those German brands. Use to go to the Kölner Messe in the eighties and nineties. Love your channel, really like Gaston with his passion for handtools.
My partner wanted to restore 2 old bedside tables so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to buy an orbital sander and 2 18V batteries and say it was a gift for her to do her project. She’s used it once and I use it nearly every week for my work 🤙🏽
My Entry: I actually tell my wife how much I buy my tools for, what's the saying that a Carpenters biggest fear is that when he dies that his wife will sell his tools for what he told her they were worth rather than how much he paid for them 😄
Awesome tool demo Gaston and Scott,I just say cause I watch so many you tube builders especially my fav Scott brown he sent me it,and also hello to your hard case lady she's a keeper.
Knipex nips! Was concreting full time about 7yrs ago and the crew went through nips constantly: blades blunt and chipping ect. Boss picked up a pair of knipex on the way through a random town hardware store, drove back that arvo to buy every pair they had on the shelf. Still using the same pair, Rate %100
I’ve recently purchased a whole range of Makita 18v tools previously I was only telling ryobi. My girlfriend and I are saving to buy a camper van and I spent almost $2000 on tools. She walked in the my shed one time and said I didn’t know you had blue tools I thought you only had green. I ended up making her believe a story on the new lights in the shed make the colours look different and some how got away with it. Dw I eventually told her the true and we had a laugh. Love the videos
I always tell my wife that I needed the tool to be able to do that job she asked me to do and, as luck would have it, that really expensive tool was on an amazing special that I just couldn't pass up.
Prize giveaway story: This is actually how my wife hid a new tool from me which was a present!! It was added to my festool stacks in the workshop for 3 weeks before the special day and then brought out at the right time. I was delighted with my new sander but embarrassed that it was in plain sight the whole time!

Gaston, your a legend! In the past I have inflated the cost of materials to cover the cost of tools, and then play the old “had it for years” card… But my favourite was when I had $1300 invoice from my mechanic, but he refunded it as warranty came through… I forgot that bit when I was telling the Mrs, so then I had $1300 to pay for a new mitre saw….. that I had “had for ages”
I normally hide my new tools behind the rubbish/recycling bin because I’m the one who allways does the rubbish and takes the bins out. Hasn’t failed me yet!! Awesome looking tools Scott and Gaston!
Glad you have found Nelson Scott instead of the rat race and I hope you will both be happy there. I've bought some great stuff from Gaston and he has the best customer service of any business I have dealt with. The quality of his tools are without question. The last time I bought some 'needed' tools for myself, I also bought a nice gift for my wife so we both got presents and she was happy with the arrangement. Not sure if I can keep this up though when my 'needs' are so high especially when all this new stuff keeps appearing. Yes Gaston - I was astounded when I saw your T-shirt with the Samurai using a western saw!!

Great tool time episode Scott! I truly enjoy these new and unique tool sneak peaks. Have always caught myself growing up in the home center/hardware store scoping out the tools. I don't think I'll ever let go of it. Great to see you setting into the new home. Sending you the best from LI, NY! ~ Keep up the great work ~
I’ve been watching your channel for years. You do not have nearly the number of subscribers you deserve. I’m shocked you’re still under a million subscribers.
I bought a very expensive camera (Canon R6) for my photography work I probably didn’t need it, could’ve just lived with the one that I already had but my excuse was ohhh nahhh I’ve got heaps of jobs coming up and this is necessary look at these bells and whistles (talk lots about technical camera stuff to make her think it’s worth it) it worked and I reckon this camera has returned the investment! Awesome purchase 😂😂
I waited till a package arrived at the door for her and after I ask what she's bought, I slip in that I bought a new Katipo tool belt, she'll always ask if I really need it and I reply the same with what she bought haha. The setup is awesome, you should give it a go Scott, my Dalluge slides in the hammer sheath really nice, not sure how yours will do with the grip on it, would be good to know how it does, cheers Scott and Gaston!
My method is to either pretend "it's the same one I had before" or tell her I need it to complete whatever renovation she wants to do next, to the point that now when she wants something done it's followed up by "you can get a new tool to help!" because we all know every job needs a new tool ;)
Gaston is the real gadget man. My dad has a tendency of buying all sorts of random tools, most of which he doesn't know how to use and they tend to stay in their boxes for a long time. This works a charm when I need a new tool (that dad hasn't already bought). "Honey, I just found it at dad's, pretty sure he bought it a couple years ago and never used it. Yeah it's like brand new!" Keen to see Scott use all the new tools around the house on little jobs.
I bought it because it will save so much time in the long run and really it's part of the job and it will last at least as long as your Bernina Sewing machine!
I have or had 2 Douglas hammers gave one to my son I thought he made those here in Santa Cruz ca but could be wrong glad to see he’s back in production
My method for buying a new tool is to write someone else's initials on it, rub a dirty rag over it so it looks old and then say I got it super cheap at a garage sale 😎 works like a charm.
I dont really hide things away from my partner like new tools as long as she knows its well worth the money spent to make more money shes always on board which is a plus. But she does get fascinated and interested in how they work. She and i would call Gaston the go go gadget guy lol. His tools are awesome. Great vid btw 👌🏽
i think the best story is to say, i've always had that or collect as many tools as possible (Plugging Piranha Tools) so that it all becomes blurred! Glad to see Gaston got his hands on some GRR-RIPPER 3D Pushblock, he did mention he was looking at some when he came to Wellington
PRIZE GIVEAWAY STORY: I've recently finished building two decks at home (total: 30sqm), but needed a way to rip down decking boards into thinner strips and on angles. I was originally using a Makita circular saw, however I wasn't happy with the accuracy of cuts. So I bought a table saw from Mitre10 to use for ripping down thinner boards etc... When my wife saw the table saw in the garage, straight away I was in trouble. However I was quick to let her know that it was a tool that was necessary to finish off the decks safely and I can use it to make her garden planter boxes next. So, a good strategy of mine is to come up with a reason we can both benefit from having a new tool.
I always found the "safety" angle is good for a reason to purchase new tools. "Why did you buy a new table saw when you already have one?" Answer: "It's unsafe and the new one has great safety features". "Oh, ok".
Sooooo hope my wife doesn’t read this. I have two basic MO’s: the first is to buy a specific tool for a specific project, and then just demonstrate to her how cool and efficient that tool is at doing that thing. The second is to buy something, usually an item I’ve investigated/coveted for a while but don’t have a pressing need for it at the time, but that’s on a super good deal. I buy it, then stash it in the back of the shed. By the time I have a need to use it, if questioned about it I can legitimately say “Oh this? Yeah, nah - I’ve had this for ages”. Hello plasma cutter.
My story. Wife generally accepts my purchases as they translate to work being completed around the house. I finally convinced her that I needed a rolling toolbox cabinet to store all my tools and would make moving to our new house easier. I knew for sure they weren't going to fit in the one so I had no choice but to purchase a second. p.s. going to purchase the POCKET TAPER GAUGE. What a cool little tool.
I came home after purchasing a brand new Makita LS1219, thinking that my wife was still at work. Turned out that she left early because she was feeling crook and she greeted me in the garage. When she enquired about the "necessity" of it (I already had 2 older mitre saws), I quietly reminded her about the multitude of parcel deliveries she had received last year, that I never questioned her about. She looked at me, nodded, asked if I wanted a cup of tea as the kettle had just boiled, then went back inside... I quickly hid the new drill combo kit, I had also purchased, in the back of one of my cabinets and went inside.
I have 2 Knipex sidecutters, one for steel wire and one for smaller electrical stuff, and even though they are a bit expensive, they ARE worth it. I get so frustrated with poor sidecutters and Knipex sidecutters are just such a joy!
All my new tools are on loan to "try out" from suppliers, she was watched a few SBC episodes, so now i answer the question "is that a new tool" with "yes" and do the pointing thing to invisible Ad Gifted in front of my face haha

Nice video as always and great to see Gaston again, so passionate about his tools! I don't need to hide any purchases from my partner but have the reverse problem. I have way too many tools and not enough space so when I try to sell anything on Gumtree my partner always throws in a "I'm sure you'll find a use for it in the future, you should totes keep it!". Supportive, yes but I can't buy anything new if I don't sell stuff to make room 🤣
I love the nerding out. Gaston's passion and knowledge is so infectious
Always love the Gaston episodes! Just added the Zack Rabbit to my running list of tools to buy for my home toolbox
Can hardly wait to hear the stories. Boys and their toys!
And girls
I'd go broke so quick with that lad Gaston living near me!! 😂😂😅🙌⚒ Great stuff!!
😂😂😂
😂😂 Straight up! The dude got gadgets!
@@bobdongers8306 tell me about it; I’m constantly googling the items as the video is playing, and then I stop myself and say, BUT do I really need it?! 🤦🏽♂️🤣
@@maxkm7446 No but... yes!! 😅😂
“Has to be installed by a professional.” That kills me!!!!!!
She’s used it once and I use it nearly every week for my work 🤙🏽
Wow incredible tools. Great to have Gaston come show all this to you (and costly).
Received my Douglas 17oz hammer yesterday. I love this hammer so much! Looks so good.
My Entry: I actually tell my wife how much I buy my tools for, what's the saying that a Carpenters biggest fear is that when he dies that his wife will sell his tools for what he told her they were worth rather than how much he paid for them 😄
You aren’t kidding! Tools and firearms
Everyone needs a Gaston in their lives! The mix of tools and tales is awesome! Well done guys! 🙂
Gaston is a legend ... Always a pleasure to watch him.
Always love his enthusiasm for the products. Those Zack Rabbit bits are very cool, never saw those before.
This is likely my favorite Gaston appearance video. Such a great, professional tradesman.
Prize giveaway story:
This is actually how my wife hid a new tool from me which was a present!! It was added to my festool stacks in the workshop for 3 weeks before the special day and then brought out at the right time. I was delighted with my new sander but embarrassed that it was in plain sight the whole time!
Even though I don't do a lot of woodworking etc anymore, I would love 50 % of these tools.
I love this guy! He's brilliant. He radiates with Hand/Power tool passion!
We should call him "Gaston the toolman"
I love this particular video because it covers tools a man needs. :) Cheers.
Good job reaching episode 333! 🎉 You two should have a channel just for stuff and tools 😬
Gaston's face when you flip the hammer is the best thing I've seen all day!
Eating avocado toast AND somehow had leftover money to buy a home? Scott is rich
Avacados are cheap in many places round the world especially over here in Europe unlike America, not sure about how much the kiwi's pay for them tho
Kiwis are cheaper there.lol (No pun intended)
@@cmmartti Well, actually... all over southeast and east London for real! Smashed avocado dominating every restaurant except the few remaining old school caffs.
Gaston, your a legend!
In the past I have inflated the cost of materials to cover the cost of tools, and then play the old “had it for years” card…
But my favourite was when I had $1300 invoice from my mechanic, but he refunded it as warranty came through…
I forgot that bit when I was telling the Mrs, so then I had $1300 to pay for a new mitre saw….. that I had “had for ages”
Gaston is so pure, the lad just loves tools
I love seeing Gaston! Good to see some Knipex and Wera stuff as well. I actually do tool showcases for family and friends once in a while too.
I'm an American, and I'm SUPER thrilled the give away *isn't* for us! We get all the things and there's usually tiny font that says (Not available for Overseas" or what-not. You ANZAC's enjoy!
Because you deserve the most lovely furniture you could ever want, and with this beautiful new tool. I believe I might be able to give it to you.
those knipex plier wrenches are some of the best dang tools I've ever owned. First set were stolen from me, so I bought a second set and now treat them like gold.
love Gaston he`s so excited to show off the new gear makes me equally excited !!
i have 2 of each of my hammers for shiny memory sake lol
I just learned so much about those Systainer boxes. Seen them so often, but never knew all that. I feel like I need some now.
I've just learned so much about getting my to agree to tools!
I'm an electrician and I just tell her it's for a job i'm doing next week, works everytime :-).
I am a DIYer so I always tell my wife that a new tool is cheaper than getting someone in to do job!
So I just find new jobs to suit the tool I want haha!
Love the show and tell “Gaston tool “ time. I want every tool he showed you. Amazing stuff. Thanks for the post, Scott!
Wish Gaston was able to get over to wales , an amazing selection of tools an gadget tools great episode Scott 👍👍
Yeah it's like brand new!"
Keen to see Scott use all the new tools around the house on little jobs.
Mate. That Zach Rabbit Tool. What a time saver.
Gaston your pronunciation of Katipo was perfect and it is the only native poisonous spider in New Zealand. The red back & white tail are Australian.
My mate and I, when we buy new tools/toys we just tell our wives we’re borrowing from each other. Unfortunately I think our wives do the same 🤣🤣
Gaston has great one liners, “a love letter to tools” 😂😂 another one “infidel samurai “ 😂😂😂😂😂 brilliant video guys
i think the best story is to say, i've always had that or collect as many tools as possible (Plugging Piranha Tools) so that it all becomes blurred!
Glad to see Gaston got his hands on some GRR-RIPPER 3D Pushblock, he did mention he was looking at some when he came to Wellington
I would love to see a tour of Gastons tool collection!
Smart, make it something she will benefit from
I always found the "safety" angle is good for a reason to purchase new tools. "Why did you buy a new table saw when you already have one?" Answer: "It's unsafe and the new one has great safety features". "Oh, ok".
Every time that I buy a new tool it's always for "that job you've been asking me to do for ages, I can't do it without this tool."
Gaston shows the pick up feature and then immediately forgets about it and struggles to pick it up to attach the stop, XD. old habits
Had a wee chuckle at that too
I have had two Douglas 20’s for 10 ish years and a Dalluge 7180 (titanium knockoff) love them all.
If Gaston sells "it comes with a manual!!" tshirts, I might not be able to resist.
in plane sight 😅. Always love when Gaston comes round.
I love seeing all the different tools
There’s Mitre 10, Bunnings etc…
And then there’s Gaston, Where would we be without Gaston 😂💯
I have 2 Knipex sidecutters, one for steel wire and one for smaller electrical stuff, and even though they are a bit expensive, they ARE worth it. I get so frustrated with poor sidecutters and Knipex sidecutters are just such a joy!
All my new tools are on loan to "try out" from suppliers, she was watched a few SBC episodes, so now i answer the question "is that a new tool" with "yes" and do the pointing thing to invisible Ad Gifted in front of my face haha
