Interviewing a Riot Developer about Gekko (Is he Meta?!)
Thanks for watching!

I completely disagree with the notion that Gekko has no obvious synergy with other agents when we have seen mostly from top level content creators and pros some really busted synergies like forcing Gekko ult into Sova/Brim ults or corralling enemies with the KJ ult on retakes and then Gekko ulting the one spot they couldn't be detained, or Fade ult into Gekko ult, Fade snare into moshpit, etc. Imo the Sova/Fade vs Gekko comparison in terms of mastery is a bit overexaggerated if you're strictly talking about the pro play. From what I've noticed with pros who are relegated to Sova most of them have a very linear playbook of sorts that have a clear purpose on a team trying to achieve something. Most pro Sova players with thousands of hours on the agent have their own set of limited lineups and set plays that they can do. In an ideal world most pros would be having thousands of lineups per map like Jonas but in reality most pros would rather have streamlined approach to Sova. And imo that's where the problem lies with Gekko, having a kit that is intentionally easier to grasp just makes having it easier to get into that streamlined approach that pros love to do. Apart from his inherent strengths like having Gekko plant/defuse which means that teams can have 1 man up every retake or site push, the ability to carefully scout, contest, and fight for crucial areas of the map with reuseable and short cd abilities makes him very good at the hands of teams who can play around him properly. Tbh I kinda see what Nivera is talking about, Chamber might've been oppressive in terms of his firepower but Gekko being used by a good team and in the right player and strategies could be more dangerous in the pro scene than Chamber.
I feel like a similar thing happened to viper when the game came out. Yes she was worse, but after the 100th buff (way before her famous buff) she was extremely overpowered.
Here we are after 100 nerfs later and 50% fuel drain nerfs, ult nerfs, snake bite alone can't kill anymore, etc and yet most people feel like she's S tier
The community has always had extremely rigid thinking but also all utility has been nerfed to the ground in general which I personally feel takes away the flavor of the game
11:45 Correction: Utility like Reyna's leer wasn't brought down to 20 hp. Only util that had 1 hp was brought up to 20 hp, so it wouldn't be disintegrated by mollies. Dizzy would still be a one shot if released before patch 5.12.
Anyway, i do think Gekko has a lot synergy with Harbor (which is ironic considering they are kinda polar opposites both in terms of community preception and skill floor). Harbor's Cove can obviosly protect a planting Wingman, but Harbor's util in generel can also help Gekko retrieve his buddies.
At release people thought chamber and jett was bad. When chamber came out people called him "a jett with a worst dash and trips".
Mark my word in a few week/month double initiator including gekko will be standard.
Shit back in the day when Astra were release i played a amateur tournament for plat and gold only and we played viper Astra ans almost every Map and the immortal commentaire flamed our comp on stream about how running those two was overkill. Then it became the only meta for month. People are sleeping hard on Geeko and Nivera is based.
I def get the easy to use/accessible approach with Gekko. I think on a pro level, despite the agent being made with a lower entry level, the way pros take that is as “more consistency” they don’t have to do precise lineups to get value, they don’t need to line up a flash that blinds enemies and not teammates, etc. (side note from my experience a lot of people seem to think “plant with wingman = value” when that’s not the case, it’s meant to be a mixup to get people to peek it and you still have your hands free to answer that peek. Sadly most people think that sending wing in just means free plant lmao)
Well, apparently I don’t know valorant. I thought he was kind of bad
When Yoru was showed I thought that he was wicked good but we all know how it is.
bruh💀
Before watching everything thru, i have to say i think gekko is strong, but by far not broken as chamber, astra or killjoy have been in the beginning.
What website is that at 8:14?
I've been thinkin this since he dropped
the only thing thats needs nerfing is his ult it just has way to much health. it shouldnt be a viable strategy to just pop around a corner launch the ult and get rewarded for it
He seems very oppressive in ranked but i dont think he will be as impactful as chamber was in pros and ranked
But why they never aay anything about jett
It is in fact much broken ult use twice lmao flash cant evade
No way near as bad as old chamber. Idk what they're smoking
I hate gecko
